Default cost of tuning piggyback

How much does the tuning of it cost? i'm looking into making sure i'll be able to cover all the costs when i finally get the funds/parts together. Also, What all is done to tune the piggyback when you install your turbo. does it need to be on the car when it is tuned or can i just bring it into a shop and they do it for me?

alright. So do you just not have any boost goign thru until you make it to the shop to tune it? or tow it in?

its your choice...what can be done is install the injectors and all the turbo goodies and leave the managment out for the time being...DO NOT BOOST...go easy to the shop and plug it up if you are intending on getting a pnp harness for whatever managment you are going with once you get to the shop...

if you are going with the AEM fic i would suggest taking a peep at the fic setup sticky. you want to set it up before going to the tuner...also ask questions about what they prefer to tune and what software they use.

ok thank you. i was wondering if this was something that i could do myself. I'm really good at computers and technology, so i'm sure i could figure out a car computer too. That and my girlfriends dad has some great connections with master mechanics ^^

You can be a computer genious and not be able to tune a car, it has a lot more to do with tuning knowledge than the "technology" aspect of it. Also i doubt many master mechanics can tune piggybacks ;)

If you get a good kit with a basemap preloaded on the piggyback (DEZOD!), then you can drive it straight to the shop no problem (Everything installed).

When i got tuned years ago, the shop said $500 for 2 hours on the dyno, then when i told them i already had a base map and we just needed to tweek it, then it was only $250 for 2 hours on the dyno.

Uhhh, NO!! Do not do this! I fouled a set of plugs after only driving 5 miles with 550cc injectors and no piggyback! The stock ecu dumps the injectors at the same cycle it does the stock ones. AFR's were off the charts (BELOW 10.0:1) AT IDLE!

This happened due to some EFI troubleshooting after install. Long story.

iv seen worse...in any case you should always carry a spare set of plugs with you when you go to get tuned...plugs may get fouled out during the tuning process..

you could drive to the shop with everything installed on stock injectors and no piggyback but AVOID boost by all means. I mean putt-putt there.

These were BRAND new plugs with only 5 miles on them. Just trying to drive home my point of NOT to drive on larger injectors and no management. This happened when i was trying to find the source of a problem that was causing the EFI fuse to blow everytime i cranked the car, causing it not to crank. Thought maybe the piggyback pnp harness had a short in it, so i unplugged it, and it cranked and ran for a while. The problem i found out was the secondary o2 sensor's wire was touching a cv bearing hub bolted to the transaxle, that then burnt through the outer coating causing metal on metal contact, and when the ignition was turned on caused a short through the block where the EFI componets grounded through. It cranking with the piggyback unplugged was just a freak occurance, maybe do to the engine rocking trying to crank pushed the cable off the hub for a short period of time. That was not a fun day of trouble shooting. It first did it while traveling down the road at 60+mph and then, oh $hit, the car cut off!
