Just curious, between this and other 4 cyl. cars ive driven, i see myself shifting higher than the 'manual'. just curious to kno where people shift at as plain daily traffic, not passing, racing, you know.. just crusin'

It depends on what speed I'm driving, but I'd have to say most of my "freeway" shifts are around 3k-3.5k.

I drive mostly freeway so I'm usually shifting 3.5k and higher.

it always depends on my performance mood. but usually to get from home to somewhere else, its around 2800-3000
I am about the 3000 area, trying to stay at low speeds for gas saving. :D

that's another thing.. ive been skeptical of shifing low because i think you'd use more gas to 'drag' the car out of the last gear's momentum.. has anyone noticed a difference between shifing at ~3k or ~4k?, i personally shift at just about 4k to 4k for normal in city and 4200 freeway...lead foot?
Normally around 3 - 3.5k RPM for daily driving, 4k for a bit of passing power, and 5-6k for the need for speed :P

Between 3.5-5K in normal driving, Redline when I want more speed. Unfortunately, I speed 90% of the time that I'm behind the wheel. So I might shift later than people that obey those strange signs with the numbers on them.

4k and up because anything below takes away the fun factor... that's just me... and yes, that is my daily driving shift point.

I had a friend that was shifting her Celica GT-S at 2-2.5k. I asked her about the car and the first thing she said was that it had HORRIBLE gas mileage. I told her to shift from 3-3.5k and that should help out. It did. Her reasoning for shifting 2-2.5k was because her friends Xtype shifted at that speed, 8cylinders vs 4 lol.
So if you think about it , you are probably pressing the gas harder when you are shifting low, thus opening the throttle more, thus sucking more gas. Botom line is shifting below 3k under acceleration (from 0mph) is pointless in a 4cylindar...
been shifting about 3000 but i noticed a bit better shiftage and overal ride at about 3200rpm. :relief:

What are these "signs" that you speak of?
