View Full Version : HELP Please ! MY Brakes !!
tcboi513 08-26-2009, 05:07 PM Ok guys I have a question whenever I step on the brake pedal at low speeds(1-5mph) I hear a metal clicking noise like metal peices being ratcheted or clicked down the harder the push on the pedal this also applies when im lightly taking my foot off the brakes.. I'm thinking its just the brakes clamping down or releasing on the pads but im not sure.. anyone had any ideas of what it might be ? I've never had any brake probs before and I've gotten the rotors machined at the dealer and pads checked and changed regularly..I just passed 36K miles..
getaforknjob 08-26-2009, 05:10 PM Hmm..when did you last have your pads checked?

You're only at 36k and you already had the rotors machined? Did they actually need it or did the dealer just tell you they did? Like were there any issues with them like any strange wear patterns or anything? And do you know if they have actually ever replaced your pads? They might just be low.
My OEM brakes lasted me 60k+ miles - and I changed them at that point for some upgrades. They still had plenty of life left in them.
tcboi513 08-27-2009, 04:28 AM I had it checked and changed about 10k miles ago nope no unusual wear patterns..they suggested I get them machined and I did..
MAVALLE 09-01-2009, 06:59 PM mite be ur hardware kit that get in the way of sumthing. i had the same problem on my last car turned out my brake hardware kit on one side, a peice was broken which made that sound
Jasper Ash 12-20-2009, 03:10 PM I have this same problem with my breaks.
I usually notice a click noise when I first press the brakes after the car has been sitting for more than a couple of hours, and only at slower speeds.
Does no one have any other ideas on what this might be?
GQQSE13 12-20-2009, 03:16 PM ^^^i've got this issue when barely have my foot on the brake
Murphys_Law 12-20-2009, 06:36 PM ... the brake relay is clipping over...
icestorm 12-20-2009, 08:40 PM since your dealership do the work for you, you should have them look at this problem.
Murphys_Law 12-21-2009, 02:39 AM its the relay clicking dude, sometimes it throws me off too
Gripking 12-21-2009, 07:24 PM i had the same issue and it turned out to be some kind of bushing or something i forgot the name of the part exatcly but its some rubberish white peice that has to be installed when changing the pads.. i took it to the dealer and they fixed it for me for free since they claimed to not have installed it when i got it serviced like 2 weeks before and they should have done it then. hope this helps..
i know the sound its like a scratchy metal clumpy smooth sound.. annoying as hell
Jasper Ash 12-22-2009, 12:10 PM The relay clicking... so not serious?
I'm still not so saavy with auto tech, so i started resting my hand on the e-brake for the first few minutes of driving.... juuuuuust in case..
Thanks, guys.
Murphys_Law 12-23-2009, 05:13 AM either the relay or the switch that lets the car go into drive that releases the auto shifter
sciontcmm 06-05-2011, 05:19 PM My brakes are having the same issue. There is a lot of play in the pedal and hear a clicking/clunking noise when i step on the pedal sometimes and when I release the pedal as well. It doesn't do it everytime but at least 60% of the time. Could it be my rear brakes causing this? I know I am due for rear brakes soon. I am also getting a metallic sound coming from the rear with the rotation of the tire at low speeds and an air sound with a metallic sound sometimes when I brake coming from the rear.
scion_andrew 06-05-2011, 06:25 PM Brake line . My did the same until I fixed a leaky line .^^^
sciontcmm 06-05-2011, 06:34 PM How much does it cost to fix it at a dealer? What would cause a leak in the brake line? Did you have all of the same problems I listed or just some?
scion_andrew 06-05-2011, 09:42 PM I'm not sure I paid basically 200 for a master cylinder and to fix the brake lines with new pads. My friend has his own shop. But yes my brakes completely went out they didn't hold pressure even after bleeding the system. Once the master cylinder was replaced it held some pressure but it was horribly spongy. When the brakes ere pushed a loud clunking noise and hiss would be heard. If I were driving it would squeeq bad. We found a loose leaky line replaced it and all my problems went away lol.
