This was a very easy install. All it was, was unbolting everything and bolting the new one back on. I can feel an increase in HP and Torque at about the 4K rpm range. Plus, it adds great sound to my exhaust. It came with simple, easy to follow, directions with a couple photos. One thing DC Sports left out though was that you need to take "the ring" from the bottom of the old header, connecting to the exhaust, and place it on the new one. Very important to know because it could drive you crazy trying to figure out what's going wrong. I got lucky and just happen to stumble upon the answer to my problem, which was the ring.

what do you mean what going wrong? what happens?
hey the CEL comes up on you right? or you installed something to take it off?

Without that ring, it leaks where the header and the exhaust pipe connect. The exhaust pipe has a bowl shaped connection, and the ring that I'm talking about is flat on one side and rounded on the other for a perfect fit.
Make sense?
I didn't have any problems with the CEL.

Day 3: Still no problem with the CEL.
But...lets talk about this. I didn't reset the ECU. Now, I'm afraid if I do then the CEL will come on. What are your thoughts. I talked to someone on this site and they said, "if it hasn't come on, then it won't come on. Go ahead and reset it!"
Do you think should I reset it?
I also did a search and found someone who had done the same mod, and he said he didn't reset the ECU either, and the CEL hasn't come on.
Am I getting full use of my header without resetting the ECU?

Does anyone know if I have to reset the ECU, or can I just leave it?
Or if I reset the ECU, will the CEL come on?

Their's only one way to tell.....
C'mon, you can do it!!!...... hehe....
Well, from my experince(2G DSM), the CEL doesn't come on right away. It usually come on after 50-100 miles after the upgrade. If it hasn't come on by then, then it shouldn't come on at all, even if you reset your ECU.
Also, do you have a different exhaust on your car?
ty6

I would have just done it, but like everyone else, I hate when the CEL comes on! hahaha
Anyway, thanks for the info.
I'm running a TRD exhaust.

From what I've learned so far, the tC's catalytc converter is integrated into the exhaust manifold, correct? So when you install the header you are left without a cat? Is that why you are worrying about your CEL coming on?
If its any help at all, several years ago I installed a header on my '94 MR2, which also has the same exhaust manifold design. My CEL never came on, and my cat's been gone for years now.

For the people who did install a DC header and recieved the CEL , did you also install an exhaust? axelback or catback.
i bet with the DC header and catback exhaust, youll definitely get the CEL....
also if you reset the ESU does it even check if all the parts are functional?

I have the DC headers & K & N CAI with the TRD exhaust, but it sounded like crap (I posted a sound clip a while back. Now I just use my stock exhaust. I've had the CEL problem ever since the install, however, I got myself a ODBII to reset the CEL light. After clearing the CEL, it comes back on after 20-30 miles of city driving or 125-150 of highway driiving.

I would have gotten a manual, but I drive in Manhattan everyday so I got a auto :tap:

Actually I mistyped it before...it's a OBDII or OBD2. An OBDII reader plugs in to car and it will tell you what the CEL stands for. If you have a CEL, after plugging it in, it will display some numbers. You look up the # in the manual and figure the source of the problem. (example: 0218 = Transmission Over Temperature Condition ) After a few minutes, the OBDII turns the off CEL. If you do not fix the problem, the CEL will come back on.
You can goto a Toyota dealership and they will charge you $50-$75 to diagnose your CEL by doing the same thing or you can get your own:

It sounds like that, a little "ricey" (forgive the phrase), but I've kinda gotten used to it[/quote]

why does the CEL come on when the headers are installed?
I just heard the sound clip for headers, CAI, and TRD exhaust...it sounds nasty!!!! why do you think this is?
ty6
02-03-2005, 03:52 AM
Because it's recorded on a video camera, so the sound qualities not that good. Also, he recorded it with his car driving between rows of houses, so the sound echos all over the place.
I have the same mods as he, except for the air intake, and mine doesn't sound bad. At least, it doesn't sound like that at all.

The stock header has a built in cat. When you install the DC headers, it removes this and causes the 2nd O2 sensor after the headers to set off the CEL for higher emissions.
The TRD exhaust probably wasn't meant to handle (sound decent) the extra amount of exhaust that the headers help spit out. The TRD exhaust sounded nice with the stock setup and a CAI, but with the headers, it becomes another coffee can civic.
ty6
02-03-2005, 04:04 AM
It's definitely a matter of opinion.
I do agree, though, that the TRD exhaust probably wasn't set up to handle the extra flow.
Also, I still have yet to install in air intake, so maybe for me that will make difference.
helloimerwin
02-03-2005, 04:05 AM
maybe with the redesigned DC headers, they'll add the cat on causing it to have a lil less airflow making the exhaust not as loud....just a thought
ty6
02-03-2005, 04:08 AM
It's possible.
I was just thinking to that it seems to be louder on the inside, rather than the outside. I'm going to dynomat my whole car anyway, so I think that'll help.

OBD2 is the type of EEC (Electronic Engine Control) system is on the vehicle. Most all cars manufactured after the mid 90's have ODB2. The government regulations pushed the industry to standardize the emmision control sytems. OBD2 is nice because with the right tools you can not only read real-time data but actually make some changes to the system.

Wow, man...I didn't expect that. Thanks for searching up all those links!!!
I tried the ECU reset that I found in the search on this site, but it didn't work for the tc. So, I'm going to try and pull the battery cable, and see what happens there. I didn't have time last night because I had Sh** to do.
No one seems to know how to reset the tc's ECU without pulling the battery. Oh well, guess I'll have to re-do my presets.

You prob. know this already but just in case you do not, don't foget that if you disconnect your battery to reset you ECU, you will also have to reset your power window computer, here's the how to link:
