Are there any practical purposes for adding mods such as a new intake/header/exhaust---anything like that, other than for the purpose of having a higher horsepower or, for example, the sound that the exhaust makes?

possibly any gas mileage benefits to adding such mods?
anything like that?

I have no intention to take my car to the track, or have any desire to create more horsepower.

thanks

There are gas mileage benefits to doing I/H/E upgrades. A better breathing engine is a more efficient engine. Whether or not the mileage increase will justify the cost of the upgrades is debatable depending on your driving style.

better airflow can help with MPG, but most people offset that by driving harder.

As far as economy goes, I'd stick with what Toyota designed. That's what it's designed for.

purpose of power mods

lmao

you answered your own question

but seriously yes you can gain mpg by mods. When engines breather easier and exhaust flows freely you will see a nice gain in mpg. Most of us who do mods though usually do not see a gain b/c we keep our foot in the pedal. If you do i/h/e and take it easy on the throttle then you will see a gain.
