Well started this week building my sound system for my scion. I have a pair of pioneer shallow 12s, with 2 ma audio 800 watt max amps. Most likely will replace my ma audio amps for a pioneer amp and show it off a little bit.

I was orignally gunna put my subs on the side out of the way, but this plan worked out better so I didn't have to worry about damaging them and still could shove bunch of things in the trunk.

The first step was taking out the things in the center and using my little holder as a template.



The second step was test fitting the cover that sits where the foam holder sat.



After the box fitting was done, we built the inside of the box to hold the subs at right height. Got the panels center cut out and test fitted the subs.



I had to put my amps under the seat since they are fairly big. Had to remove the plastic holder as well. Only temporary till I can get a class d amp to handle both subs.



Also will be ordering some suede in black to wrap the box to hide the screws. Then I plan on trying to find the cargo cover for the trunk wrap that in suede and modify it for the box to show off the speakers and when I get a new amp

Edit:Here is the steps I took to get the suede ready.

First I took upholstry foam and wrapped the top 2 times. Its really soft and smoothes things out on top.



Then it was wrapped in black microsuede for the finished box in picture below.



Now this still isn't the final step. I am gunna order blue suede to match my car and more foam. I am using my rear trunk cargo cover to create a cover for the subs. Planning on putting a speaker grille built in on the sub or cargo cover. Then wrap it in dark blue suede. Started that yesterday as well. I gotta work on the covers and cargo cover as soon as I get a chance then ordering my material.

I know these aren't the best pictures(taken with my phone), but all I had at the moment. I will be taking some nicer pics with a digital camera once its all said and done

looks nice.. so i take it you completely removed the plastic storage area under the rear seats and built an amp rack there?

Yes, had to remove that. When you pull the rear seat cushion up there is a small lip on the back of the plastics that won't allow to the amps to sit flush on the ground. Once I get my other amp I will most likely put it back on and remove these amps.

There isn't a amp rack just a bunch of velcrow holding the amp to the bottom. Stays very cool as well with the plastic removed. More then I thought. Only problem I ran into is if someone sits down they will be on top of the amp.

Did you fiberglass the spare tire tub or are your subwoofers being ran free air?

Looks good! I recently had the whole rear seat stuff removed for stereo fun stuff!!!

ahh i see now.. my amps are under my front seat but i'm looking to upgrade soon.. i may go with a nice 5 channel and build an amp rack where you built your sub enclosure

Didn't fiberglass it. I didn't wanna mess with much stock stuff just incase I ever decide to sell this car. I just built a compartment around the box for each individual subs.With these being shallow well subs it doesn't require much space to run them.

Its really good. Only problems I am having are small bits and pieces that are rattling, but thats expected. The car is built extremly solid. When its turned up all the way and windows up you can't really tell subs are even in the car. Very impressed with this cars build!

Edit: does anyone know where I can pick up a stock rear cargo cover? The cover that goes where my system is located? Going to use that and modify it for my box

The rear cargo cover on the bottom is over $100 if I remember right. I was going to cut my stock one up on one of my old system designs.

check ebay. mines got covered in oil and i bought a replacement for $40 shipped.

When I get a hold of one of those it will be the final step in my design. I may end of stick some 6x9s in my box to give it more mids.

Damn thats a big box. What size sub is that? lol Have you found out the way to get the trunk hatch to not rattle as much?

It's a single 15 with about 3000watts.
I've used a couple sheets of Second Skin's Damplifier Pro, but I've also removed the trim panel completely. It's the trim panel that I have found to be the cause of all the rattling. Full tilt, I'd see the thing move almost an inch back and forth. So, I took it off.

Got some dynamat today, and will hopefully be putting it down tonight. Also building my beauty panel tonight as well, then just need the upholstry foam and suede to finish it off
