View Full Version : I bought a demo OakToddler 02-01-2005, 12:48 AM I  groundzeroxb 02-01-2005, 01:00 AM I did not buy a demo, but I do want to congradulate you on you smart buy, and welcome to Life with a Scion... Captain_tC 02-01-2005, 01:02 AM why would you buy a demo for so little of a discount? Makes no sense to me. Plus, the first few hundred miles are a crucial part of the break in process. And we all know how test drivers beat the hell out of the cars. I can see you justifying it with a real discount, but 15 cents per mile is very weak. But as long as you are happy. OakToddler 02-01-2005, 01:20 AM :lalala: OakToddler 02-01-2005, 01:26 AM  tcperconti 02-01-2005, 02:04 AM yeah, I wouldn't sweat it being a demo. Especially if the dealership was careful about letting people test drive. And accompanying drivers during the test. Sciond 02-01-2005, 02:23 AM I agree with it being ok...mine had a couple of 100 miles on it but I could find another BCP 5spd around and I did not want to wait Cheif_Thundercloud 02-01-2005, 02:27 AM Camo is a hot color, my favorite. When I got mine they were hard to come by at all...when I started signing papers another salesman had a customer testdrive the one I was applying for :tap: The other salesman tried to rush his customer in front of me into the final stages of sale too. Good thing I was the first to test drive that day and they made sure I was first into finnancing. OakToddler 02-01-2005, 02:41 AM  Buzzkill 02-01-2005, 03:05 AM No worries about the 300 miles already on the car. Most people don't test drive the xB with the mentality that it's a STi or an Evo 8. And if someone did beat it during a test run, the probability of it doing damage is little or none; in fact, many people have different views of break-in technique, one being taking the car up into high engine speeds in order to help the seals seat correctly. Do a Google on "engine break-in" and you'll see that there is a lot of technical rationale for hard break-ins. Stresses to other components like transmission and suspension during test drives are not likely significant nor should be worrisome as these components should be able to easily survive the limited power delivery of the 1.5 liter engine. In the end, congrats on a new Scion in a color that you really like. And welcome to the friendly community. OakToddler 02-01-2005, 03:11 AM  LiquidXB 02-01-2005, 03:12 AM Hey Oaktoddler congatulations on the purchase and the color of course. By the way did you purchase the scion at prestige on 17 north? I am a frequent paramus visiter with my camo so if you see me give me a honk. OakToddler 02-01-2005, 03:17 AM  LiquidXB 02-01-2005, 03:29 AM Yeah those guys are good up there i bought both my xb's from them and i'm happy. The blue xb you saw could have been my friend, did it have the TRD wheels, billet grill and wing? OakToddler 02-01-2005, 03:34 AM  LiquidXB 02-01-2005, 03:55 AM Ok well welcome to the Camo club and good luck with the car... firesquare 02-01-2005, 05:12 AM oak what part of bergen are you in? fachiro1 02-01-2005, 06:01 AM Congrats fellow camo owner! Rog Don't even give your purchasing a demo a second thought. You got a good deal. 300 miles is nothing. My "BRAND NEW" camo with 5 miles on it had a huge scratch in the side skirt when I picked it up. If my wife didn't see it, I wouldn't have noticed. I had to wait another two days. hotbox05 02-01-2005, 06:21 AM big pimpin man i wouldda bought the same way if i could bB2NER 02-01-2005, 07:00 AM I barely could of noticed it was so white and salty looking. Sorta like mine. Gotta run it to a car wash. OH NO not a car wash!! Do a search and find out how soft the paint is on these. Hand wash only if you don't want it all scratched up  LiquidXB 02-01-2005, 04:06 PM Yeah i made that mistake (carwash) and now i am paying for it. I have to have it all buffed out and stuff, not fun and looks crappy  Joehnn 02-01-2005, 04:23 PM I barely could of noticed it was so white and salty looking. Sorta like mine. Gotta run it to a car wash. OH NO not a car wash!! Do a search and find out how soft the paint is on these. Hand wash only if you don't want it all scratched up  I use the hand spray wash in winter. It will get most of the salt off. It will probably be March before mine gets a proper hand washing. :? OMAC 02-01-2005, 04:59 PM I bought a demo TCM 2004 xB. It had just over 6000 miles on it and they sold it to me as a used car. It had the remainder of the factory warranty so I am happy. It has the Scion Alarm, 6-CD changer, Fog Lamps, Intereior Accent lighting, Scion 'S' side body graphic, bumper protector and alloy wheels. All in all, the sticker price of the car was $17,400 and I bought it for $13,000 + tax. I am quite happy with my purchase :) firesquare 02-01-2005, 06:18 PM cant go wrong with that Lonely_Raven 02-01-2005, 06:32 PM Nice deal OMAC! I was hoping to get the Hot Lava out of one of the local dealerships, but they weren't sellin' hugebox79 02-01-2005, 06:49 PM I bought this as a demo http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v225/hugebox79/Dscn0064.jpg And this is what the old demo looks like now http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v225/hugebox79/pic5.jpg When I bought mine it had 2300 miles on it. And it was still considered new because it was never registered with the DMV OakToddler 02-01-2005, 06:59 PM  ilkaffeeli 02-01-2005, 11:55 PM I got a demo too, but not a driver demo. It sat in the showroom. They had to move half a dozen tables for us to go test drive it. 175 miles on the odometer. I walked into the dealership hating boxes.... then I drove out in one. LiquidXB 02-02-2005, 12:06 AM OakToddler i think there is a hand car wash in westwood called Donavin's hand car wash, and he is the best there is around here. Or there is a new place in HoHoKus called "OBH (Only By Hand)" never been there but drove past. OakToddler 02-02-2005, 12:49 AM  OakToddler 02-02-2005, 12:51 AM  ilkaffeeli 02-02-2005, 05:15 AM Well, it only cost 21k... but came with a sound system, nice wheels, and a few other mods. I could make it sound better, but it really needs to be seen. I'll post pics when it gets back from the audio installer (they're adjusting the rear view camera and adding an alarm). hotbox05 02-02-2005, 07:53 AM And this is what the old demo looks like now http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v225/hugebox79/pic5.jpg what kinda suspension are you running? bBTOY 02-02-2005, 11:12 AM Definetely, test drivers of an xB with a Salesguy in the car are not going to thrash the BOX. I just bought mine in DEC.`04, and my xB/bB had actually been sold 3 months prior to me buying it. It had 5300miles on it . But it was Still in NEW condition with ALL New car Warranties and Goodies/options. Luckily for me, they must not have been able to keep up payments and thats why it came back to the dealer. And I really checked out the car. And again Luckily, the car had just come back , not long enough to do a lot of Repairs or Painting. I checked the engine compartment to see if it had just been steamed cleaned, and No, it had what looked like a few miles of dirt on it . The tires looked as though they had been driven on Normally with no Skids or funny wear on them . I took my hands off the wheel while on a staight away, and it drove completely straight . I even saw a post with a guy saying that after a couple thousand miles his Mats were All worn out , Mine still looked New at 6000mi.?! Now I know 5300mi. sounds like a lot of miles . But the car I was trading in was an `03 Honda  Civic EX Cpe with 5600mi. on it . So I was basically in the same usage of the cars, although my old car was 1 yr older. And they sold it to me for $10,000 !! plus the bal. still owed on my Lease . So I now am paying just as much as I was on the Lease , but Im BUYING NOW! :D ****Now, to what someone said about *CARWASHES* and *SCION`s Soft Paint* ???? Are you serious !?!?!?! Im glad that at least I have a Hand Wash near me . But what does that mean as far Waxing / how many times / can it be Over Washed . Anything else I should worry about ? I live in Los Angeles and I dont have Salt to worry about, and my car is in a fully covered No Sun Carport . Thanks I hope I wasnt :blah:ing bBTOY 02-02-2005, 11:29 AM I got a demo too, but not a driver demo. It sat in the showroom. They had to move half a dozen tables for us to go test drive it. 175 miles on the odometer. I walked into the dealership hating boxes.... then I drove out in one. WOW , that was either the LONGEST test drive or it was an EXTREMELY LARGE dealership showroom . It cant sit in a showroom and get 175miles on it , and it definetly does not get that many getting off the truck either. Dont get me wrong, you got a great xB ! And it looked nice then and looks great now. But maybe it was a Dealer car for a little bit , or it was the Donut getter. But it can`t get those miles sitting or being dropped off in the showroom . And definetly Im glad they sold it to you as NEW with that many miles, it would have looked bad had they tried to sell it as Used . Or something , I know it had not been registered. All in All I havent heard any Horror stories when buying a SCION . PaganGuy 02-02-2005, 12:11 PM I got a demo 04 Camo with almost 5000 miles on it, it came with a lot of options I didn't really want but the color was most important. I have not seen any other Camos on the road around here in Michigan. I still get a ton of looks from other drivers and it is the funnest car i have ever driven. OakToddler 02-02-2005, 02:56 PM  hugebox79 02-02-2005, 09:40 PM And this is what the old demo looks like now http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v225/hugebox79/pic5.jpg what kinda suspension are you running? I have the Goldline coils on it. But with the kit it sits hella low. InfamousBri 02-02-2005, 09:46 PM Why would u buy a demo for only 45 bucks(300 * .15) off the price lol. I'd rather just buy it new. You never know what idiot test drove the car. OakToddler 02-02-2005, 11:27 PM  Eddieg 02-03-2005, 12:59 PM I bought a demo on-line out of St. Louis. 5000 miles on it. had decent rims drop down TV, DVD player, 600 watt 2ch Rockford Fosgate Amp, 10" Sub. Paid 16000.00 shipped to Phoenix. I love it! flowmini98 02-03-2005, 02:33 PM i bought my XB used with 7999 miles on it....it was still under full warranty ..and i asked why it was traded....and our salesman was the one who origanlly sold it and said the owner SPRUNG for a TC....or at least thats what he told me. |
