Default Spark Plug Duration

So 120k miles on a 2009?

Any suspect these or seen this last that long?

Just seems like a stretch.

IMO iridium plugs can last that long. OTOH, their performance very likely starts degrading after 60k which is when I'd change them. FWIW, I've read that NGK IX plugs outlast Denso Iridium. However,I have no personal experience to confirm or deny that www rumor.

If your worried, just pull them at intervals to check them (like every other oil change). Check the gap and if it's fine, no problem. If they're bad, chang'em out.

Thats what I was wondering Fred. I know they are more durable than Plat, but I was wondering HOW durable. My Hyundai also pushes for 97,500 miles on the change.

Most iridium/platinum plugs don't need to be/shouldn't be gapped I believe.

I use NGK IX iridium plugs and I change them about every 25k or so. I've had put some other brand on and quickly removed them because I noticed poor performance.
My car has now 80,500 miles on a 08 xb.

i believe the iridium's are the OE ones and if you change them to something else, the car freaks out. it's happened to a few of the cars i've worked on for customers, and i guess toyota's are sensitive to that kind of stuff. TIS (toyota factory repair manuals) say that the iridiums go for about 90k before we start to recommend changing them. again, if you pull the plugs and check them every once in a while to see their real condition, then you could change them before they heat up too much and eventually fry the coils.

bottom line: check your plugs every once in a while!
