Yeah it does. If you look under the cover where your spare tire is there is a metal rod w/ a loop at the end of it. It screws into that spot once the insert is removed. As far as purpose? Not sure. Maybe if you ever needed to be pulled out of a ditch. :ponder:

The square spot is where insert your tow hook rod, it should have come w/ your car from the dealer, its for actually towing anything, its so someone can tow your vehicle.

Appearently there are no spots underneath the car where u can put a tow chain. Like alot of import cars they didnt bother to put any in the frame of the car . Most VW, Porshe, BMW,Mercedez, ect.... don't have real good spots to tow from.

Its either so the tow truck can pull your car up backwards or so they can use it as a 2nd tie down when towing. I know its a pain in the ___ having to use those hooks when towing. Wouldn't worry about it unless u are a tow truck driver! LOL

actually they come with 4 tie down points that would work well for that purpose . i removed those clunky looking extra 5 pound piece of ____s , lol

The problem with using the tie-down points for towing is that the tie-down points are made for tying _down_, not being pulled straight forward or back. The tow strap would go under the skirt and I'll give only two guesses as to what happens to the skirt when the strap goes tight! The screw-in tow hook gives a staight pull to a hard point on the unibody structure.

BTW, I've seen people leave the tow hook in as a convenient place to hang a trinket. Doing this will lead to worse body damage if you get hit, as the tow hook will pass impact stresses directly to the body structure, avoiding the energy-absorbing bumper structure.
