Default Quick Garret question.

Thinking about turboing my tC. Any recommendations on a Garret turbo for a stock internal application? I was thinking a .50 trim, but just wondering what people think.

I'd say 50 trim if you don't plan any future upgrades. Go 57 or 60 trim if you want more top end and consider a 60-1 or GT35 if you plan on getting more power later.

i have a noob turbo question, if i need a turbo with t3 turbine inlet and 4 bolt discharge, will all turbos be exactly the same? as in will all garrett or say master power turbos bolt on to the same t3 manifold and 4bolt downpipe?

also, about how much do your average exhaust shop charge for a custom downpipe, from turbo exit to tip of factory s-pipe?

im doing some homework myself, lol

I hope you guys know that a 50trim is capable of 400+whp on pump gas.

A 50trim will be just fine - T04E 50 is what you want. I would suggest, however, to get a .63 AR exhaust housing.

And by the way, even though the 50trim is smaller than the 57trim, the area of efficiency of the compressor map is better.

Most turbos should be the same. If you still to the big names (which you should for a good turbo anyway), they all pretty much measure up the same. I've switched between Turbonetics, Garrett, and Precision with no problems.

As far as a downpipe cost; I'd say $200-400 depending on the shop and what materials you use. I'd buy all the flanges yourself and take them to the place. Only have them supply your piping.

Usually around $300. Save yourself the trouble and buy a new turbo. Places like ATP or Kinetic Motorsport (big in the VW crowd that I used to be in) offer tons of good turbos for around $600.

Thanks for all the responses. Sounds like a .50-.57 is what I'll look for.

Kinetik Motorsports has a T04E 50 trim with yor choice of .82,.63,or .48 exhaust housings for $595 shipped with a 1 year warranty Also I believe you can pick from a 4 or 5 bolt exhaust housing. http://www.kineticmotorsport.com

The 595 shipped is a special theyre advertising on the VW Vortex forum (where i often hunt for F/I parts in the classifieds) so you'll probably have to call them and ask for the special if you want that price

400whp all day on SRT-4s with the 50trim. If you want a TC example:

Granted you need to have a good flowing head and supporting mods. But the 50trim is very capable. In TC-X's particular case, he was still using the small .48 AR exhaust housing and Stage 2 wheel from T'netics.. with a .63 AR and Stage 3+ wheel you can get to 400whp much easier.
