View Full Version : New JL Audio 10" subwoofer installed in my tC!
Audicted 02-03-2005, 10:34 AM Ok, it's late, so I'll put more info tomorrow, along with actual photos.
I have the JL Audio 10w0 in a sealed box running from a Lightning Audio Bolt b250.1 mono amp, all at a "humble" 150w RMS.
The sound? Pounding, but clean! I can't even put the gain past the halfway mark without seriously drowning the treble.
Honestly, this sub is plenty enough to shake up the sound and can compare in clarity and power to at least a Rockford Punch 2
More tomorrow (plus the story/ordeal in finally getting it all done!)
sciontc_mich 02-03-2005, 02:26 PM yeah JL audio always has had the best sounding subs out there.. very clean and accurate.. even with only 150watts it sounds much louder.. they make some awesome subs!
pics definitely love to see some pics!! :)
LavaBox_v1 02-04-2005, 12:21 AM I had a JL 10w6v2 and a JL 500/1 Mono Amp and it sounded pretty damn good ... I got a deal from my local audio shop about doing my car all Alpine, so I switch to Alpine 10" TypeX & an MRD-M501 Mono Amp ... The sub sounded alot more clear and hit alot harder and lwoer. So far I found Alpine and can't find anything in my likings to beat it! (without jumping to a bigger sub or more power)
sciontc_mich 02-04-2005, 01:59 AM so alpine was more clear than JL.. nice.. I'll have to go hear some Alpine subs when i have the chance.. I know their headunits are the best.. don't doubt their subs are great too..

ScionRI 02-09-2005, 12:41 AM depending on how hot that amp runs and how much your sub vibrates that box, you might reconsider mounting it on the back panel of the enclosure. but it looks decent, nice and clean.
rockdeezo 02-09-2005, 04:34 AM cute!
Audicted 02-09-2005, 08:11 AM no distortions and no signs of over heating at all =)
VtScionGuy 02-09-2005, 07:59 PM Must be nice to have a grill on the woofer.
Most of mine can't fit a grill so no cargo in the back. =/

Yea I've seen stuff like that. I rather go without cargo then risk puncturing a $500 sub.
Reign_Man 02-10-2005, 05:55 AM www.audioflux.com has some awsome grills. and they can custom make grills to. everyone go look.
trench 02-10-2005, 11:05 AM custom boxes own all! Have them make you one!@

Lonely_Raven 02-10-2005, 02:05 PM Damn, my server is down right now, I can't post photos of
the sub I built for myself...I'll try and post it later.

Eclipse has the best head units.
I know Eclipse has some sic headunits ... but I love my Alpine 9835 ... It has built in EQ, Digital Crossover, Time Correction, Sub Controll w/ Phase Adj, CD/MP3/WMA & iPod Interface Ready ... Just to name a few things!
brian 02-14-2005, 08:15 PM how much did you pay and where did you get your w0, box, and cover? i'm looking into getting one since it's small. i need the trunk space.
Audicted 02-14-2005, 10:02 PM $145 sub + box, $20 phoenix gold woofer/amp cable kit, $60 installation, $20 hi-lo converter
Plus I sold my old sub, which I bought for $117, for $150 (minus shipping)!

codey1793 02-14-2005, 10:32 PM Not to sound cocky but i have you all beat i have two Diamond Audio TDX 12's and a Diamond Audio 1200.1 amp and i will bump anyone system for system and mine will never distort not one bit you should all check them out they knock try a 146.6 db and they can still handle 1200 more watts of rms power. But one thing to remember you do have to pay for that quality :P

Reign_Man 02-14-2005, 11:55 PM ....k
Audicted 02-15-2005, 12:05 AM Oh yeah, quality cost a lot in price and often times space. Like I said, I'd like to have a system that bumps, but still allows me to have some space in my trunk
Lonely_Raven 02-15-2005, 12:19 AM Damn, my server is down right now, I can't post photos of

wait you built ur own sub? or sub box?
Both actually. I took a motor assembly from a 15" woofer and put it on a 10"
basket and reconed it. This was back before the super long throw woofers we have
today...I probably built it 10 years ago or more.
The box I built for it is like a slide trombone, one inner box that the sub is
installed into slides inside a bigger box with a port. Sort of like an adjustable
bandpass. So all you do is slide the inner box up and down while you play music,
then when it sound *just* right, you screw the two together and seal it with caulk.
The problem is it's 14"X14"X26" so it's a bit large for smaller cars, but it slams
hard for a single 10". I've been using it mostly for my computer surround sound! LOL
Reign_Man 02-15-2005, 01:27 AM sounds awsome!
rockdeezo 03-06-2005, 08:37 AM Not to sound cocky but i have you all beat i have two Diamond Audio TDX 12's and a Diamond Audio 1200.1 amp and i will bump anyone system for system and mine will never distort not one bit you should all check them out they knock try a 146.6 db and they can still handle 1200 more watts of rms power. you dont sound cocky u sound insane! with your diamond audio, i will give you $2 bucks for them. 146 db ? wow! it seems as though u need to get ur money back cuz some of us can get there and not even need two 12" speakers let alone 1.....try one 10" and half the power .............142 db and it aint diamonad audioand it ainta 12"
what midrange speakers do u have? 146 db is ur system clear at 146db? can u still hear the high's over ur overpowering bass? hmmmmm something to think about then u would know if u spent enough money :tap:
also who tagged u at 146 db your neighbor?

You sounds like a car audio noob to be honest.
MAXAM 01-29-2006, 02:06 AM hi guys im getting a JL Audio 12W3v2 JL Audio 12W3v2
(12" 600W Dual 4-Ohm Subwoofer) and was wondering... do i really need a 500/1 JL amp to compliment it with?... b/c im tryin to save some $$$ thanx...
JDMJim 01-29-2006, 02:21 AM do the 500/1. you won;t be disappointed. Under power a sub and you get under powered sound. I threw a 250/1 at a 8W0. That Porsche Boxster was slammin.
