Always been a fan of having loud bass so shortly after buying my Gold Rush in March I started researching how to install a system.



I saw some posts about the JBL Stealth box and also how to install amps in the wheel well. I thought the price was outrageous so I decided to do a DIY.

First, I upgraded the mids and highs so I could hear them over the bass. My RS5 came with the premium HU which I wanted to keep because of the steering wheel controls so I picked some speakers that matched the rating on my Sony Amp. I went with infinities both front and rear. And when I say rear, I ditched the rear door speakers and installed them in the c-pillars.

First I yanked out the interior so I could dynamat everything







Then I made a template for the c-pillar insets out of paper. I used this to cut out wood speaker surrounds.







Then I drilled a hole in the c-pillar pieces to pull the speaker wire through and glued them in using Liquid Nails







I also dynamated the doors and installed those speakers.



I ran all the wiring back to the spare tire area where I wanted the amps.

Next I made a rack for my amps and cap and then made a cover.



I also had to custom make the sub box. I followed this tutorial exactly:

I'm really happy with the way it turned out. The bass sounds fantastic. No rattling at all. If you have any questions just post and I will respond.

do you have the measurements for the c-pillar templates???

I still have the templates but I'm not sure how you could recreate them from measurements. Each corner has a different radius of curvature. I had the cargo net c-pillar accessories installed so I took those out and traced them. I could take a picture of the templates with a ruler in the picture so you could print them one to one if you want.

this is true i didnt even think of that, hmm well i think the easy thing to do would be to order the c-pillar nets, then just send them back (i work in a toyota parts dept.)

That looks really nice. When I first saw my xB, I immediately knew speakers were going to eventually be in those c-pillars. Then I noticed everyone had the same mindset!

Good job with the custom install. two questions 10 are those 3 ways you have in the front? it looks like you have a wire running to the rear of the door panel in one of the pics. 2) I have a matching Rockford fosgate 4 channel amp if your interested. it was in my wifes car for 4 months before we traded in her car its been sitting with my collection since then. let me know if your interested. its the 600a4 I believe.

I started doing the c-pillars tonight its going to be a toughy for me. It looks sooo simple but its def somethin that takes time!!

@rj how long did it take you from start to finish for every thing, sub box and all??

I really worked on it in stages. I'd say it took me 3 months over the summer. The sub box took the longest. I had never fiberglassed before so it was a learning experience. The speakers in the front were originally 3 way but I changed them out down to 2 way components.
