Excellent, buy. I ran over 140k on my '99DX. When I opened the valve cover, it look brand new. Word of advice, maintain your ignition system and A/C. I've seen more than a few fried wires and temporarily dead motors due to electrical. The A/C needs to be serviced annually; the A/C clutches sometime quit without warning at about 60K.
Enjoy the mileage of your HX, or, realize that virtually all EX mods will transfer over and have fun.

Meguiars make a pretty nice solution to get rid of all the nasty blemishes on your headlights. I would suggest you either get geniune headlights or buff the blemishes out. Also Wire tuck should be on your list of things to do for your engine bay :)

10-25-2009, 03:01 AM
I might want to get this up to date....
-Wink Mirror Installed
-Intake Cleaned, shop ordered the wrong filter, waiting on a new one.
-Cleaned the throttle body
-Neighbor called 911 for revving while cleaning it, got a no front plate ticket for the OTHER CAR.
-Degreased motor
Also, domo, ive tried EVERYTHING on the headlights. theyre as good as theyre gonna get.

10-25-2009, 03:07 AM
Even meguiars? That stuff is suppose to work well. Personally, I never tried it but Meguiars products usually leave me with a smile. Oh you should add, fuel injector cleaners..will run you 6 to 7 bucks.

I'll have my Stage 1 mod list up tomorrow? I'm also still waiting on my license plate, so I DGAF about my current one. IDK if I mentioned this already, but my neighbor called 911 on me for revving. And last, my "AEM" intake is fake.
Heres an update I guess... The car has a bad rear main seal, and my dad can't afford insurance on it right now because of this entire damn divorce. So, my car is being thrown into the garage, where it will sit for.... quite some time.

Hey bro-
you're not alone. Back when the HX was around. It had a bad rear main oil seal as well. Then the seal on the driveshaft/axleshaft went bad leaking trans oil. Might want to check that too, they went at the same time back then. So this is common for that car it seems.
tCtCtC
11-11-2009, 03:02 AM
Well I know the rear main seal is a common issue on a D series in general, but I'll be sure to check the driveshaft seal also.
Murphys_Law
11-12-2009, 01:53 AM
man if you were local id help on the seal, ive been all over hondas
Ok car looks good man! Thats not a bad first car and you get to mod even before you can drive it!
I was wondering soemthing in the pics though. What is up with your hood? It seems the gaps are way off as you can see in the engine bay from the side on one pic. Also there seems to be alot of gap between the hood and front grill/bumper.
tCtCtC
11-18-2009, 03:00 AM
The hood fitment next to the fenders is fine, so idk about that. I'm not sure about the grille, because the headlight doesnt align with the bumper also, so it's leading me to believe that it's an aftermarket oem style front bumper.
And oh, new pics coming soon once my tail lights get here... I might have a teaser up tonight
Had to take the harness from the stock tail lights, they sold me the non-Depo tail lights. So without further ado, here are the pics.
Headlights - REAL Depo
I can honestly say that the quality of these is outstanding for the $100 I payed. No leaks, good cutoff, good fitment.
http://i948.photobucket.com/albums/ad323/tCtCtC/98%20Honda%20Civic/Depo%20Review/IMG_6625.jpg
Tail Lights - Fake Depo
eGay said they were Depo, they aren't. Had to use the harness from the stock lights because whenever the brake lights were on, the signals would turn on, whenever the signal was on the brake light would flash etc etc. On top of that the driver side needed to be trimmed :icon_juggle:
i know :icon_mrgreen:
I have all next week off so I'm planning on giving it a full wash, clay bar, rubbing compound, and wax before it's parked in the garage for quite awhile.

11-20-2009, 07:29 AM
^^ yeah those headlights do look good. I know the tyc are the makers of the real honda-branded headlights. But those depo (is that the brand?) really look just as good as original! I tried to use that headlight restore kit (3m brand) on a friend's civic, sure it cleaned up the outside, but that cheap polycarbonate after all these years warped FROM THE HEAT OF THE STOCK HEADLIGHT BULB! the inside still had a haze! hahaha..
so $100 for the headlight pair? where? I can send the link to my friend when they need to get some. nice job!
You can also search "Honda Civic depo headlights 98" on ebay. seems like there are more people selling them.

Hey any news about that main oil seal leak? were you able to check the axles and make sure they weren't leaking from the transmission?
And the wheels? Those are CX/DX steel wheels on there. What happened to the alloy wheels that the HX comes with standard?
tCtCtC
12-05-2009, 08:32 PM
The leak is for sure the rear main. I'm gonna have it replaced in about a year because that's when the car will start being used. The car is being stored in the garage because of my parent's divorce.
I really wish I had the HX rims. From what I see on the fender liner, the car used to have rubbing issues along it, so I'm guessing that one of the owners sold the HX rims when they upgraded and when they sold it they got the first/cheapest set of rims they could find. But oh well, Si rims here I come!
sciontc_mich
12-07-2009, 06:43 AM
yeah I remember I weighed the HX wheels. They were like 11lbs! seriously light! But the problem was that if you got a slightly less than perfect tire it would weigh more than the wheel and you'd feel the vibration. Was crazy trying to get those perfectly smooth. So maybe it's better you don't have them. :)
The Si wheels, oh from 99-2000.. Yeah I remember those, very nice!
Oh and the oil seal doesn't matter if you're not driving it, yes I keep forgetting you can't drive it yet ;) that must drive you nuts that you gotta wait. I still remember waiting for the right age to get a permit. That was a long long year. lol
one more thing, don't forget that you can bolt up a rear sway bar to the civic, not just the HX. The Si part and links work perfectly. Honda put all the holes in the control arms and frame, but bean-counters didn't allow them to put it in the civic! It was designed to have it there, but they just didn't pay for it. The Si sway bar and links are cheap too. I think it's a 13mm bar.
here are the parts and manchester honda's prices (good honda place) (www.manchestermotorsports.com (http://www.manchestermotorsports.com))
Yeah, the wait is killer haha. I forgot about the sway bar, and I think I'm going to do the Si sway bar since I still want something that's normal for a DD. Also, the modding bug is still biting me, anyone have any suggestions on a small mod?
car is looking good! Depo makes some pretty qualitly stuff for a cheap price. I had their projector headlights on my neon and they were super bright. Only thing that sucked on them was the adjustment screw broke so they were kind of high.

Alright, opinion time.
I'm in the market for a new exhaust, because I have a REALLY bad leak in my current exhaust. So here's what I'm thinking right now.
1) Tsudo N1, install my current high flow cat to keep it semi-quiet
2) Get all new custom piping with a 20" resonator and reuse my high flow cat, and get a muffler.
3) Get the Tsudo N1 then replace the muffler down the road to something along the lines of Apex'i WS2.
Right now I'm leaning towards option 3, because I'm a sucker for a WS2. I also have an issue with burning my new rear lip, so that's playing a roll in this also.

Yeah, that pic kinda revealed a lot. But I switched back to the OEM tail lights for a few reasons.
1) The Si replica's had gaps, and the quality of them really just wasn't up there. The plastic felt kinda cheap, and the gaps just killed it. Also, once I have new pics of everything all together you might understand. The OEM tail lights tie in better with the front end.

Now, here are the current issues I'm having. I have to take it to an exhuast shop because either the header, cat, or 1st piece of the midpipe is screwing everything else over. They have to modify flange so the cat can be turned back around, and the secondary O2 sensor can be plugged back in. Also, the hanger needs to be modified. It's not much, and there are no leaks, it's just that right now the O2 sensor isn't in so the CEL is on. But anyways, here are the new pics.
i like the oem tails alot better on your car for some reason and its something different since si's are becoming vverry common

lol you got a roof spoiler from the hic usa guy? did you meet up w/ him? i picked up mine for the sc from him (actually i met up with him at the storage that he had everything stored at, got to ride in his awesome-a$s porsche tho). he saw i had a tC since i went to pick it up with my tC and told me he's trying to make one for tCs too. if he figures out how to get around the hatch-goes-under-the-roof-when-opened thing, i'll be his guinea pig. free parts are always win.

Actually, I picked up the rims for $350 and finished polishing them for $40 more. I know the freakin dent needs to be fixed, but realistically I haven't spent anywhere near the amount needed to fix the stupid thing. So give it time and I'll get it done, I'm starting to get annoyed by every single comment telling me that, cuz I KNOW I NEED TO.

Eh, I've been going back and forth with the idea so I'm still not sure yet. I also want to change up the front lip, but I'm not sure if I'm in the right position to drop another $100 into in.
Opinions? Stick with the Mugen replica, or one of these three
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/96-98-97-Civic-SiR-Style-Front-Lip-JDM-EK9-Urethane_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem5ad80e2cd7QQitemZ390171864279QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories#ht_3730wt_1163
Your civic's looking good! If you change up the lip, I vote for the ctr lip. I was considering getting one for my civic for dd purposes since my airwalker replica is solid fiberglass and has no flex what so ever. I'm just waiting for it to crack on something lol

Car looks a little different now. But as far as mileage goes, the car has been in the garage. I took it out last night, but didn't drive very much. I was at about 48 mpg with a dirty intake filter, dirty EGR, steelies, and an exhaust leak. As long as I stay over 35ish I'm happy.

Small update. SiR lip is on, OEM EX header is ordered, put in the exhaust silencer, and planning on ordering a throttle body spacer, maybe a couple other small things.
-Cleaned up my EX header, just waiting on installation now.
-The COMPLETE IDIOT that owned the car before me extended the wires on a WIDEBAND O2 sensor and relocated it under the car instead of right off the header, so thats all re-soldered and heat shrinked back to how it's supposed to be.
-OBX throttle body spacer is installed, had to shave the throttle body tab a bit.
-Raised the front about 3 coils so it sits a bit more even with the back.
-96-98 Tail Lights are on, the 99-00 replicas started leaking.
-Mounted my GPS.
-I have the money to fix the transmission/rear main seal, waiting on a few things at home before my dad and I can take it to a shop.
This car is a bigger headache than I originally thought.

The fogs are a love hate type of thing, I'm probably going to smoke them in the near future but I haven't decided yet. But they're the Esuse fogs, not the POS Depo ones.
I only know of 3 people on ScionLife that have a Wink mirror, so idk if it would be worth it.
I really hope that it'll pay off in the future, cuz right now it's a PITA.

I don't think it would cost 1k.
tCtCtC
06-02-2010, 01:54 AM
Well, I'm basing it off of how much it is to fix the tC. The tC needs a passenger side quarter panel (even bigger dent than the Civic) and it's at about 1100. So idk, Honda panels are a little harder to work with cuz it's so thin.
