View Full Version : Lowering my XB
tallguy4u2luv 02-07-2005, 03:39 PM Help!!! I want to lower my XB in the summer when I have my 18" rims on...but I ride my stock wheels in the winter...what is an easy low cost way to raise and lower my car throughout the year?
Thanks![/b]
dgHotLava 02-07-2005, 03:45 PM air ride....
coil overs....
just lower it, the height will be the same no matter what tires you run with...
and moved....
SuperCrunchyAction 02-07-2005, 03:46 PM There is no easy way to raise and lower your car unless you spend a bunch of money on a nice set of coilovers or airbags. Cheap coilovers are around but not recommended. You can also put your stock springs back on each winter and that would be the most economical.
tallguy4u2luv 02-07-2005, 03:52 PM Well I don't need the cheapest.....what are the best for my money.... I want to make sure the ride is still good.....but don't want to invest my life savings...thanks!!!

I'm not sure what I want....I just need something that will be easy to raise and lower so I don't have to take the car to a mechanic each time.
BrianxB 02-07-2005, 04:00 PM lower it yourself. The rear end takes 10 minutes. The front end can be done with hand tools in about an hour.

randode 02-07-2005, 04:40 PM just drop it with 2" goldlines. it will be fine in the winter.

I agree.. get some springs and be done. Don't drive in snow 4" or deeper, even if you've got the ground clearence. That's bad for your health :)
tallguy4u2luv 02-07-2005, 04:50 PM So just get some lowering Springs....I saw some Tein on Ebay that will go 1.5 inches.....think thats good enough?
superjeer 02-07-2005, 05:04 PM I have those. Tein H techs. They are a softer, but squishy ride. They lower a little and look better than stock. Gets rid of the 4x4 look. but if you want to look "lowered" then go with some Goldlines (150 shipped from Bill) or S Techs / Tanabe DF210's or something. They all lower in the 2"+ range.
timinaz 02-07-2005, 05:11 PM Depends on the look you want. Goldlines are 2" Tein STechs are 1.5"
scion1616 02-07-2005, 05:12 PM i just installed the eai air ride kit on mine and i have a set of tein ss coilovers for sale that are only 4months old. 800.00 if interested check your mail i sent you my number.
tallguy4u2luv 02-07-2005, 05:14 PM I like a stiffer ride and better handeling....which spring offers the stiffist ride?
superjeer 02-07-2005, 06:05 PM Depends on the look you want. Goldlines are 2" Tein STechs are 1.5"
H-Techs are 1.5, S Techs are 2ish
which spring offers the stiffist ride?
I hear S Techs are stiff.
I had goldlines and they corner much much better than the h techs.. that's all I can tell you about that though :)
tallguy4u2luv 02-07-2005, 06:09 PM Who offers the Goldlines? I like the cornering to be sharp on the car....since I don't have much in the line of power LOL.
Fujiz_xb 02-07-2005, 06:16 PM tanabe df210's ptuning.com call them tell them your on scionlife you get free shippng and extra discount.
superjeer 02-07-2005, 06:18 PM Bill or Scionspecialistvegas, scionspecialistvegas@yahoo.com
He has an sponsered sale price of 150 including shipping, I think. I've bought springs from him in the past and he's a real cool guy. I def. recommend him.

stiff? well, the stock springs are damn stiff.
goldlines are sweeetah. they are softer than the stock, yet offer far less roll. it's weird - the bumps are softer but the corners tighter.

Yeah, Bill's the man. Great service before and after the sale...
longfrance 02-07-2005, 08:38 PM I got the H-Techs... they're hella softer than stock and the 1.5" drop is just enough.
Lonely_Raven 02-07-2005, 09:21 PM Are there any springs that go 3" drop? Or is that a bit too
much for our boxes without a complete suspension upgrade?

air ride takes awhile to initially install.
Lowering springs on an xB take me about an hour to do total. Your average person will take 2-3 hours the first time with hand tools.

Thanks for the advice....I'm going to get the Gold-line lowering springs...I've been told now by about 3 folks that those are the best for the ride I'm looking for.
superjeer 02-08-2005, 12:46 PM Too bad you're not in Masfield, PA. I'd help install them with ya :)
tallguy4u2luv 02-08-2005, 12:54 PM Too bad you're not in Masfield, PA. I'd help install them with ya :) I could use the help....I'm not really mechanically inclined....but hey....thats how you learn!

coilovers.. or maybe air ride.
dgHotLava 02-09-2005, 02:41 AM 3" inch is the very extreme...
hotbox05 02-09-2005, 03:46 AM yeah you woild need coilovers or air bags. bags can go about 4.5-5 inch drop all around . coilovers up to say 3

Youare kidding right. If one runs 215/40/18s versus a 215/35/18s. It would be about a half in or so higher. Due to the extra inch of rubber on the tire.
hotbox05 02-09-2005, 08:07 PM it's closer to an inch higher lol , i'm borrowing some 18's with 40 series and man that ____ed me off less gap but higher off the ground.
erichlf 02-09-2005, 10:05 PM Yeah I thought it was an inch higher, but it had been a while. Atleast I didn't claim it didn't change anything. lol So 40/18s will fit? 'Cause I wasn't quite sure if I would have rubbing problems. I really would rather have 45/18s, but I think that is pushing it. All I know is the 35/18s are a _____ when the roads are rough.

use a tire calculator...
i was tring to express that if you choose the tire correctly it will be very close to the stock ride height...
so lowering the car is independant of tires...as the new tires should have a diameter close to stock...
lastlookcustoms 02-11-2005, 02:26 AM I just run mine with stock wheels and a 2" drop in the winter. Its not bad except in DEEP snow...
tallguy4u2luv 02-11-2005, 12:15 PM I just run mine with stock wheels and a 2" drop in the winter. Its not bad except in DEEP snow...
Thats exactly what I want to do this year....is lower it 2" and run on my stock in the winter so I can save my wheels the grief
CBSIMONSEZ 02-15-2005, 03:50 AM The difference between a 35 series tire and a 40 series isnt an inch. Youre only looking at a 5% gain in the side wall. Im thinking 1/2 in at the most.
squarepants 02-15-2005, 04:36 AM i live in miami so long i never seen snow in my life....... :eyebrow:
LostBoyScout 02-19-2005, 10:43 PM I'd lower it with springs 2" then get a set of winter tires in as big of a size as you can to maintain a high ground clearance - 205/60-15 or something
