View Full Version : Too much mileage for Turbo Bolt on?
Charock 11-09-2009, 08:19 PM Hi Guy,
I'm new to Scion Life, had a question. I have a 08 Gen 2 XB and was looking at the Descendant bolt on Turbo kit and I have 35,000 miles.
Am I too late in the game for good results or should the engine respond well?
Thanks for any advice!

rosedaleny806 11-09-2009, 08:21 PM no way. people boost at much higher mileage then u. do it
DezodDon 11-09-2009, 08:56 PM Do it. That's nothing for toyota.
gingles 11-09-2009, 09:30 PM i started at like 50k lol
t_urbo_C_harged 11-09-2009, 09:36 PM x3! Your motor is just barely broken in! :)
azntct 11-09-2009, 09:49 PM do it do it do it
weezyfbayba 11-09-2009, 10:05 PM i boosted at 32k at 40k now
Charock 11-09-2009, 10:59 PM what kit do you have, and thx for the replies guys. Also any reviews on the descendant they asking for 4k, but I'm guessing probably worth 100bhp with a 5 speed. I want to throw my steel wheels with hub caps back on to punk a few cats, haha..
deathbyc4 11-09-2009, 11:03 PM i was boosted from 35,500 til 72k then i busted my rings on one piston. more than likely something i did to cause it but yea, go ahead and boost it!

Not many people on SL have the Descendant kit. I haven't personaly seen a thread, "Here's my Descendant kit". Or any first hand reviews other than the descendant sponsors hailing it. No doubt its a great kit imo though. Just don't think many people want to spend 4G's for a kit that's internaly wastegated and utilizes the stock airbox.
highvoltage1 11-10-2009, 12:08 AM Boost it! Im over 37k right now and putting together a custom kit and plan to be done this coming summer. So figure maybe another 1000 miles at least on the car. As long as you get a good tune and good supporting mods you should be good!
weezyfbayba 11-10-2009, 12:22 AM i had a TT simple kit . now i have a custom kit i bought off a sl member. i think im at 270-290 hp at 12 psi. going to try and get a bigger turbo and break the 300 mark!
highvoltage1 11-10-2009, 12:27 AM how bigs ur turbo weezy and who makes it?
chicotunner07 11-10-2009, 12:32 AM ^he's got elevations old top-mount EL kit, its frickin sweet seeing the turbo mounted up high like that!
and i have his old kit! lol
im at 55k right now, by the time im boosted im probably gonna be at 60-65k, im not sweating it, as long as you took care of your motor from mile 1 with oil changes and filters, then your golden!
weezyfbayba 11-10-2009, 12:40 AM i got a .57 trim 82 ar hot side but the cold side is small. its about the size of my hotside. i want a 60-1!
andys09xrs 11-10-2009, 12:59 AM thats a new engine still lol
madmarx 11-10-2009, 04:29 AM Im close to 35k with the last 10k on a descendent kit. No complaints, since adding 3"exhaust I can spin the wheels in the first 2 gears without trying and even third gear requires gentle throttle control getting off the clutch. No more power will be of any use without a lsd and or boost control.

If you install a turbo now, you'll probably shorten your expected engine life from 300k to 200k. JMO and a warning! LOL
BTW, the WR kit made 400whp on 91 octane. Not too shabby for an internal WG setup using the stock airbox. I suppose if 400whp isn't enough you should look elsewhere.
Rob_DESCENDANT 11-10-2009, 05:17 PM Both of our test mules were turbo before they made it to 100 miles!!

35K miles.
You haven't even broken her in yet. So long as the engine is healthy, passes a leak down and compression test, BOOST AWAY!
Charock 11-10-2009, 08:34 PM cool Rob (Descendant)I have a question for you, I plan on making my Rock Box a daily driver. Would you suggest keeping it dialed down to the I believe defaulted 8 Psi?
Of course I'll take anyone else's suggestions. I don't plan on racing her just looking for more driving fun. I figure 5 grand or so is cheaper then buying another car thats faster.
XB drivers are basically people that just don't want to role with the masses and be a little different....
06sciontcnda704 11-11-2009, 12:44 AM haha im at 41k now on my tC and should be boosted by the end of summer if i get a 2nd job during the summer haha
