Amp Under Passenger Seat Mounting Question.
For the past few days basically everything has been out of my car to clean up wiring and run new wiring. I had my speaker amp installed at tweeter and mounted under the seat, I was a little hesitant to unscrew it, because I knew it would be difficult to get my wholes to match up with theres. Heres my problem, Im at the point where I want to put the amp back. My rear seat is the only thing out of my car at the moment. I tested the screws they used, but putting them into the exisisting hole in the carpet, but it didnt even puncture out the back. If i look at the area under the carpet I see the mounting holes in the metal, but there is just no possibe way these screws went into them. Is it possible that they just drilled holes thru the carpet and metal, but the amp itself was only secured to the carpeting? I screwing in the amp, and it felt like it was grabbing, but I just dont see how this is secure.. Is it safe for me to drill holes, and if so how big and what length drywall screw would work
well, when they mount anything in your car... to be safe.. it has to be immobile so that if you had an accident it wont fly around the car and hit you/someone. So i'd definately put my money on a metal mounting. If you're having trouble locating the holes they used to do this i'd pull the carpet up some of the way or put your hand under to locate the holes and start a screw or two to position the amp and hopefully the others will find themselves in the proper location under the amp (where they would've drilled them)
The other option is to make new holes... be careful if you do this, you could cut wires or drill through something you ought not. Check and check again where your drilling to prevent possible troubles. Either that or take it in to the place which did the install in the first place... maybe they'll help you re-install it. .
Good luck

thanks for the tips, its just so weird, what imsayin is the screws dont seem like they are going to even reach thru the freakin carpet.. Is it ok if when I drill some new holes, if they actually go thru the bottom of the car? I see the holes that line up exactly with the amp in the metal, it just doesnt seem feasible that the screws were able to get thru the carpet, let alone the metal..
