View Full Version : Looking for new tires
my06tc 11-16-2009, 09:20 PM so im lookin for new tires cause i hate the stock tires they dont grip very well and etc....im lookin for decent tires performance tires that grip very well in the dry pavement as well wet pavement and good for snow and stuff.........any one have any good recommendations on tires or links to buy them at....cause i been lookin for awhile now and having a bit truoble finding the right ones
RoboCop 11-17-2009, 12:04 AM Well nothing is going to be very well overall. How much snow is your car going to be seeing? How much can you spend on tires?
my06tc 11-17-2009, 01:29 AM actually snow isnt really a big deal here in NY i just want something that will perform better then stock.....
Kyleinator 11-26-2009, 06:26 AM I recently got Kumho ecsta asx's and have been using them for about 2,000 miles now. They are very good for daily use and perform well in spirited driving. In dry and wet conditions they seam to do very well although I live in socal so I can't say anything about how they do in snow.
The01Cav 11-26-2009, 06:31 AM Could look into the Falken Ziex ZE912
Ace83 11-28-2009, 03:25 PM toyo proxes 4, i love those all season.. very nice dry and wet but heard it doesnt do very well in snow. I currently have dunlop direzza z1, excellent dry traction and does well on wet too
08_Scion_tC 11-28-2009, 04:09 PM Look on tirerack.com there's plenty of reviews for all the tires.
FlintC 11-28-2009, 04:27 PM also check out the hankook v12. well priced, great tire. reviews are awesome on them too. getting them next. got the hrII on my fiances ride and they are doing great.
kyledye25 11-28-2009, 04:34 PM go to treadepot.com. They do have great prices on tires. And their add says they will price match. So far I havnt seen any tires less anywhere else. Im buying tires any day now and im getting them from these guys.
FlintC 11-28-2009, 04:45 PM ^ cheaper than discount tire?
PapaMan 11-28-2009, 05:30 PM for what it's worth, my stockies went really bad the last few weeks with only 26,400 on the clock. kept going sideways in the rain.... not fun.
i was looking for weeks on what to get, and finally got some general altimax hp's from tire rack. $88 a piece if i recall correctly. ordered them monday morning, and they were at my house tuesday morning with standard shipping.
i had them installed this past wednesday, and i can't believe the difference! they make me really enjoy driving my car again. it feels like its floating when going down the road, and they grip pretty darn well too.
the reason i went with the generals is because i wanted a tire that was all season and that would last a good long while. these have 55k warranty, and some really good reviews on tire rack.
just my .02, and good luck!
zembonez 11-28-2009, 05:46 PM I ended up buying General Exclaim UHPs for my box. Never even considered a General tire until I read the reviews on Tirerack.com. I'm glad I did. They stick like glue in the wet and dry handling blows away the OEM tires that came on the XB.
Firefightin_tC 11-28-2009, 07:11 PM Could look into the Falken Ziex ZE912
Just bought these from TiresDirect.com for about 415 shipped.
jwaggz82 11-29-2009, 03:28 AM I need tires again - i dont know if i want to go w/ Falken Ziex ZE912 or the toyo proxes 4 (which is what I have now).
jwaggz82 11-29-2009, 03:50 AM What the heck - it says we can put 235's and even 245's on the tC? Is this a missprint?
http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/tirePlusSizes.do?v=008806%7C2005&r=SCGINT%7Cpc%7C29607
DJ08tC 11-29-2009, 03:55 AM why is the a miss print, it depends how low you are, if you arent than low you can fit those sizes pretty easy. You cant fit those sizes on the stock rims
jwaggz82 11-29-2009, 04:07 AM I think im going to get these for my new tires in a few weeks:
http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/findTireDetail.do?pc=38530&counter=1&ar=45&rd=17&sw=false&cs=225
jwaggz82 11-29-2009, 04:35 AM OR if i wanted to upgrade from that one ^ .... jump into this:
http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/findTireDetail.do?pc=35209&counter=14&ar=45&rd=17&sw=false&cs=225
jwaggz82 11-29-2009, 04:40 AM If anybody can give some feedback on fitment or whatever on the two choices that i gave above - thanks

jwaggz82 11-30-2009, 06:23 PM ^ i think they are going to be close to my toyo's performance - im soon going to need a better grip and also something that lasts longer (toyo's didnt last all that long).
DJ08tC 11-30-2009, 08:39 PM I really like my general altimax hp tires, I got them about 2 months ago. They are pretty good, it has rained here almost this whole month and not once have i hydroplaned or really even felt a slip. Dont think they are great for people that are hard on their car, but for me and my relaxed driving they suit me perfect.
I got 36k out of the stock bridgestone turanza el400s, and they have half of the tread wear rating the generals have. If i get 45k out of them I will be pretty happy

just ordered a set of these for 378.88 because discountiredirect is having a $50 off all orders for today only. Also today is the last day to qualify for the $50 rebate from hankook. so basically its $100 off! i think this is a great deal for these tires.
jwaggz82 12-01-2009, 02:04 AM ^tirerack says: Ventus V12 evo is not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice
DJ08tC 12-01-2009, 02:09 AM that is because it is a summer performance tire
speedintc 12-01-2009, 02:22 AM i have the toyo proxes 4's as well but the sidewalls are not stiff enough for me so the next set of tires will probably be the direzza star specs.
eboardracer 12-01-2009, 03:26 AM I got some Kumho AST's with road hazard at Discount Tires installed for $396. That was this last weekend so I dont have an extensive review but so far they are much quieter on the highway than the stock yokohama's and handle much better on the wet road than the yokohama's.
Ace83 12-01-2009, 05:00 AM i have the toyo proxes 4's as well but the sidewalls are not stiff enough for me so the next set of tires will probably be the direzza star specs.
yup dunlop star specs are great with handling, great for auto cross.. though proxes 4 are sticky too, good for straight and wet traction they just wear easily
AdmirN 12-01-2009, 05:35 AM Nitto Neo Gens...
speedintc 12-01-2009, 05:46 AM yea i like the proxes 4 as well but i dont think the side walls are stiff enought tho.
jwaggz82 12-01-2009, 02:44 PM ^ yea i wouldnt get them again either. My friend sells this stuff and gave me the two above that i posted. They were price in the low 100's and also $180 mark for two diff grades - he said those are a lot better then what we are all running - he so happens to work at discount tire in SC. Price wise w/ free shipping they work out the best. I used to like tirerack but they inflate their prices too much now that they have been around for a while.
speedintc 12-02-2009, 03:56 AM yea im gettin the star specs in the spring. i have been reading the reviews and it seems that they are about as good as the falken azenis. and like my sig says i take turns like a crackhead runnin from the popo so im i need a little better tire.
scikotics07 12-04-2009, 08:52 AM im saying go with toyo proxes 4, they are good all around tires.....im sorry if anybody already said that lol
jwaggz82 12-04-2009, 12:56 PM ^ yea - i have them on now but there are better - i ordered the ones for $179 that i posted in links above - came w/ a 45k warranty and should hold up better then the proxes4's - we shall find out. Ill give some feedback when i put them on in a few weeks
initally i put the proxes on because of cost. now w/ the turbo im looking for something that performs better because traction is constantly an issue w/ a LSD and turbo or s/c
sciontc_mich 12-04-2009, 04:52 PM ^ yea - i have them on now but there are better - i ordered the ones for $179 that i posted in links above - came w/ a 45k warranty and should hold up better then the proxes4's - we shall find out. Ill give some feedback when i put them on in a few weeks

how many miles did you get out of your proxes4's? how far down was the tread? i usually get rid of them with 4/32" left.
jwaggz82 12-05-2009, 01:48 AM ^ i dont even know - all i know is i needed new ones a few months ago but just didnt realize. All I know is i wore down my original set of oem's and this is what i replaced them with. This is what I just bought - they supossed to be reallly reallllly good:
Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus - $176.00
http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/findTireDetail.do?pc=35209&counter=14&ar=45&rd=17&sw=false&cs=225
PureToxin 12-05-2009, 04:31 AM I heard that toyo proxie 4's are the best all season... I have nitto neo gens...just got them on and they are sticky in the dry heat...but i havent got much drive time on them in the rain or snow.... But they are super quiet on the highway compared to my yokohoma's ...you would have though i drove a diesel truck with all terrain tires haha
jwaggz82 12-05-2009, 04:40 AM ^ like i said - i will put the new ones on and rate them - for the cost they are good but there are better if you want to spend another $50/tire - the proxes wore fast - how fast im not quite sure ...maybe 25k miles
DJ08tC 12-05-2009, 04:47 AM well their treadwear rating isnt that high, but you should have gotten more out of them than that. I got 36k out of my bridgestone turanza's and they have a lower treadwear rating. unless you drive hard.
jwaggz82 12-05-2009, 05:21 AM ^ i dont drive real hard but i dont drive soft either. Also, I like to turn quick so that eats into the tires also. My friend told me that these are better then the proxes for a similar cost:
BF Goodrich g-Force Super Sport A/S - $124.00
http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/findTireDetail.do?pc=38530&counter=1&ar=45&rd=17&sw=false&cs=225
DJ08tC 12-05-2009, 06:34 AM yea, i was looking at those for awhile.
