I know this might go better in the wheel/tire forum but thought i would get more responses in the lounge

Cliff Notes:
- went to dealer for maintaince
- TPMS light came on while driving home
- What the F did the dealer do this time

So the GF brought her scion tc, for oil change, air filter, and tire rotation the normal scheduled maintaince for the car. Half way home she calls me and says that she has this (!) warning light on her dash. I told her its her TPMS warning light and to pull into a gas station to check her tire pressure. Long story short the tires are all at 30 psi which they weren't before they were at 32/29 which is what i put in them a couple weeks go. The dealer balanced the PSI out to 30 all around. After reseting the TPMS light she is still getting it every day or so.


What did the dealer F-up on the car, and how did they managed to do it?

1. what year is the car? 05/06 don't have sensors in the tires, they use the ABS wheel speed sensors to determine the tire pressure variation. 07 and newer have sensors in the tires.

2. did you just reset it, or re-initialize the system? there is a difference. open up that little book that came with the car called the owner's manual.

3. pretty hard to mess up sensors if all you're doing is rotating tires and pumping up the air pressure.

4. it is just a friggan light, if you know the tire pressure is correct, ignore it and STFU. why does everybody get their panties in a bunch over this and immediately want to go on a tyraid about how their dealership must have screwed up their car either on purpose or through sheer ignorance.

Also the pressure can drop or raise from what you set it out depending on the conditions, that is why they tell you to check it every week.

1. The car is an 06, so i guess as you stated it doesn't have TPMS sensors but an ABS wheel speed sensor.

2. I reset the system by pushing the button in the glove box.

3. This is more of a statement.

4. Yes it is just a light but it is annoying at that. There wasn't a light before hand and now there is. I'm not going to deal with it and my panties aren't in a bunch, this is why i wear boxers.

Also I'm not saying that they screwed up the car on purpose or through sheer ignorance, I'll I'm trying to do is gather some information on why this could be happening and my best course of action.

i'm sure it's nothing.. i would up the pressure to about 31 psi all around.. the abs sensor isn't bad or you would be getting brake and abs check lights..

this might be a dumb one to throw out thre; but whats the temperature outside? once it gets to a certain temp (somewhere in 30's or so i think imine does it) the sensors wont read correctly and trigger it. but like someone else said, just ignore it. i do it all summer w/ aftermarket wheels

buy a roll of duct tape
remove bevel trim
remove gauge cluster
take off clear cover, rpm needle, and gauge face
cut a small piece of duct tape
place tape over tpms led (inside hole)
you may place a few more pieces to make sure it doesnt shine through
reassemble

works like a charm!

i don't think u reset it correctly. If you only push the button once, you just turn off the light.
In order to reset it, you have to hold the button for couple of seconds. You will see the light blinks 3 time, then the light should turn off.
I pump the tires to 35psi all around.
