So I was scheduled to have my Webasto Panoramic Moonroof installed in my
box today...but I got a call.

"Um, I'm sorry Eric, but Wabasto is no longer supporting the Panoramic Moonroof
in the xB...they have had some roof buckling issues"

So I do some research, talk to the service manager, and sure enough
No Moonroof for YOU!

I just thought I'd give a heads up to those like Fujiz who already have one installed.
Keep a good watch on it man, and I wouldn't recommend autocrossing anytime
soon! LOL

I dropped off my box at the dealership today, they are taking measurements
for me as this is what I want them to do in place of the Panoramic:

Wow, the cheapest I've seen for the Panoramic (through
the dealership) for $1755. I wasn't quoted a price for the
dual Webasto setup, I think they are cutting me deal for
Customer Satisfaction issues. Otherwise I think it would be at
least $2200 for the dual moonroof setup.

I should have my box back Friday, and I'm expecting my
tax return around the same time...so hopefully my springs
and wheels in a week or two.

hmm this is too bad... that panoramic was on my list of things to get when I scrapped enough money together (like a few years from now lol). Ah well, this gives them time to come out with new stuffs (or maybe I should just go with some flip downs.. cheaper definately cheaper...)..

I wonder exactly what they mean by "buckling"...

he was telling me that some cases were to bad that webasto had to buy the xb back.

sux but if it was to happen to me i "hope" that it happens within its warranty.
i saw the dual moon roof and i like also. ..

on another note. my xb will be a one of kind limited edition with the panoramic moonroof, therefore making it go up in value. :P .. well a collectors edition kinda sorta..or like the hotlava and yellow xb only a few came like that.

thanks for the info lonelyraven

btw... it sucks in winter.. i had to use rain x to prevent ice from freezing on top. after rain x that seem to take care of it.. but i am concern that when my bass notes hit something will happen or if i get t-boned or whatever..its a nice mod ..definately love it ... but im very conscious about it all the time..so there is a plus and a downside to it.

would you guys recommend trying to get this done .. maybe the place that was going to do it .. doesnt know about the xb issue and will install it anyways

or would you say .. dont risk it ?

whats a good alternative ?

Hold out till I get my dual Moon Roof this weekend. I got
a call telling me Friday afternoon for sure. Let me spend
some time with the dual setup and I'll tell you if I think it
was worth it. Honestly, I just did the research (with
Raul's help), found what I wanted and said "I want two of those"
The rest was really up to the installer to take measurements
and to approve the install.

If you go to a shop that "happens" to have the Panoramic
in stock, you might get them to install it. I honestly have
no idea how many were installed that were having problems,
so I can't exactly say if I thought it was worth it or not.
Believe me, I really thought about going ahead and doing it!

Here is some of the thought process behind my choosing the 3630 roof.
First off, Raul pointed it out to me on Webasto's web page. It was installed into
a Hummer. Rooting around their web page, I downloaded every PDF file and
looked at *EVERY* option they have. The 3630 is the LARGEST spoiler style
Webasto makes. I opeted for spoiler style (the kind of roof that slides up and OUT
of the car rather then into the headliner) because I wanted TWO of them. If I was
to get only one, I'd have gone for the 790 model which is the largest IN sliding roof.

Here are the links so you can see what I was debating:

Mini Cooper with 524 Panoramic (http://www.webastoshowroom.com/14Mini_Cooper_524_2004.html)
Panoramic is a 27 1/4"X18" Opening with 30"X27" Glass

Scion with 322L Spoiler Style (which is a standard) (http://www.webastoshowroom.com/18Scion_xB_322L_04.html)
322L Spoiler 26 3/4"X 111/2" Opening with 32 1/4"X17 3/4" Glass

I didn't like the stock option they were giving me, that's too small of an opening
for me to enjoy, and Scion was like "but we could do two!". It doesn't matter to me
how many they put in, if it's the size of a gas door! LOL

Then researching the 3630 some more, I found the link with the Honda Element
with TWO 3630, which is more along the lines I wanted!

Honda Element with TWO 3630 installed! (http://www.webastoshowroom.com/21Honda_Element_3630_2004.html)
A single 3630 Spoiler Style is 32 3/4"X12" Opening with 39"X18 1/4" Glass Each!

Since they are so narrow depth wise (18" deep on top), less roof is cut out and
less chance of buckling. So I practically insisted on two of them, and it boiled down
to the installer measuring and giving his OK.

If I could only get *one* roof installed, This 790 Inbuilt would be IT (http://www.webastoshowroom.com/24Toyota_Sequoia_790_04.html)
With an opening of 32 3/4"X13 1/2" it's the largest Webasto has that isn't the
Panoramic.

I think the dual 3630 the best alternative option if you don't mind that much hardware cut into
your roof....come to think of it, I just realized I probably added 60lbs to the TOP of
my box...hmmm, maybe not so bright...but I really wanted this!!

I'll post a review and some photos when I get it back later this week. Damn, I forgot
to take some Before photos!!

Oh, and I think that photo that Fujiz pointed out in another
thread is this *exact* setup I'm getting. Someone else
probably did the same research as I did and came to the
same conclusion as me.

i never got one in my xB because i never liked how the install looked on any of them. i saw a few from different places and they always looked like the roof was dented in a bit. and also because the xB has those lines on the back of roof they would have to remove some of the plastic to go around it and it always looked like ___ to me.

i like how the moonroof looks from the inside but i was never pleased with how it was on the outside.

Did the 3630 Sun Roofs - SIT ON TOP- When Tops are closed ?
So they DO NOT sit FLUSH EVER ?
What about wind noise ? On one of the pics the Tops looked too close together , like it would cover up the Back Top .
I really like the IDEA a lot , and I really like the RAG TOP too.

When the weather is nice enough (no frakkin snow) so I can
wash and wax the box, I'll take photos and post a review.
In the week or two that I've had them, I've only been able
to have them open 3 times, and that wasn't for long each
time because it's just too cold out!

I'll post again later, promise.

Guys and Gals I have had mine for 4 months with absolutley no issues at all. I will explain again, it is about the installer. If you have a crapy install you might have issues, I had an excellent install and have no issues and if anything comes up it is covered by warranty. Do it outside the dealership, go to a place that has done several before yours. Ask questions. I hit my top everyday I am on the road. The fact I have this gaping hole to see the sky and birds and planes is seriously bad ___. Bass: come on are you seriouly pumping that much juice that your going to pop the seems. Rediculous!!! If anybody knows Texas weather, it gets real nasty at times and I have had no leaks, no power issues, no cable issues, nothing but wind circulating throughout my ride. Remember dealers tell you what you do not want to hear to protect their butts. Check my ride!!

couldnt they just weld in some cross bars above the headliner, and to the sides. Sounds to me like the wieght of the panoramic sunroof is causing it to sink down. Theres really not enough bracing up there. I think if you maybe built some kind of frame work around the sunroof you would be ok.

Man, I just cam across this post and checked with our installer.... There are some installers around the country that do not install thse properly and are not authorized to perfrom the install of the Hollandia 524, our installer has developed a bracing system they weld into the roof of the car and it is fine. We sell a ton of these and will continue to do so!

Anyhoo. I have yet to have any issue's. Love it, sport it, use it almost daily. When I was doing something with the engine, I can't remember, I had to reset the controls, due to the battery disconnect. Other than that flawless. It is all about the installation and the installer. You want ghetto get a ghjetto job done. You want it right have the fricken dealership do it, warranty it!!!
