View Full Version : Toyota wheel alignment

I dropped my XB with Eibach springs about 3 weeks ago. It's totally sweet. The tech that put them on told me to make sure I got a wheel alignment about 2-3 weeks after he put them on, so they could settle first, so I did.

I took the car to Fairfield Toyota, (Norcal area) and scheduled a 4 wheel alignment. I got there at 1030 am. I personally know the service rep, so everything was going great. I got my second free oil change and was just sitting around waiting for the alignment to get done.

After 2 hours, my friend comes out and tells me they cant do the alignment. Somehow, and I think this is horsecrap, they tell me that Scion nor Toyota has released the specs for them to align the wheels, so they cant plug the info into the machine and align my car.

This car has been out since June last year. I'm supposed to believe that there has never been ONE XB that needed an alignment?

I'm really mad about this, because they said that they just COULD NOT do it. I had no recourse, other than take it to another shop.

Anyone else come across this yet?

gix, I have my alignment done at Auto Innovations, next door to gabe. they didn't have the specs either, but I had them used the specs on the Echo. I've had two alignments done by them, once when I first got my xB and put the spy springs in, and on saturday when you saw me when the coilovers were put in. it tracks straight, and i've had no problem w/ tire wear. it doesn't push in the corners either.

it was either $40 or $50, I think it was four wheel too cuz they put the sensor pads on all four corners.

when i got my springs installed and asked about alignment, the guy said that although the car is new, the technology use in the suspension is not. It is just standard mcphereson struts in the front and i don't think there is anything to align in the back. So he said any shop should be able to do it. As for me, i haven't aligned mine and all is perfect. as is the case with mostly everyone, i don't think you really need an alignment unless you can tell that something is wrong.

After I had my springs installed I went to a Toyota dealer and they informed me they will not perform any alignment on cars that didn't have authorized springs (TRD) or not performed by the dealership. You're right, that is horsecrap. I posted this issue before because the same day my springs were being installed by an aftermarket shop, another XB was being installed with TRD springs for a that dealership.
I went to another dealer and gave me the same reason but was kind enough to refer me to a shop that performs alignments. Yes, the car was new to the market that this shop did not have the specs. back in JUN 03. Since they have an understanding with the dealer the service rep. gladly faxed them over the specs. I have the copy and will post them tonight when I get home.
