Definitely #1 nice clean lines, easily done on a small hood. D2 wouldn't look so good smaller than what is is already, D3 just screams cheap ___ ricer, and 4 is just played out.... In color CF an option????

What is the count total for each design? I think the Ferrari design is the winner so far, at least from my count.
What count numbers do you need before we select a design?
When can we expect firm pricing for the selected design?
What delivery times are anticipated?
What does the price of tea in China have to do with anything?

A couple questions. Will this be a straight bolt-on with working latch, etc? Supposing #1 is the winner, are you shooting for a real subtle/clean design, just like on the Ferrari? Costs, shipping? And last, how much of a deposit do you want, and how do you want it, Paypal, visa, etc?

Supposing #1 is the winner, are you shooting for a real subtle/clean design, just like on the Ferrari? isnt that why we are voting, on that style
Costs, shipping?cost and shipping will be determined when a style is picked out
And last, how much of a deposit do you want, and how do you want it, Paypal, visa, etc?50% paypal

would you like it opaque, or translucent?
opaque will be an exact color match with your OEM color, CF weave will NOT be visible
translucent will give it a see thru red tint that will still show the the CF weave
all at an extra cost.
Thank you

The only reason I asked about the design is because I've seen plenty of body kits/parts out there where no matter how good the intent was, it wound up looking pretty funky. I'm just looking for some assurance that it will blend with the rest of the Xa's lines before I plop down some dough. If it looks good, I'm in & have no problem with sending you my deposit.

If someone wanted to design and build a shaker scoop and new air box combo, I would be interested in seeing it ... it would be double the cost at least.
IMHO design 1 (aka Ferrari 575) is a very clean and functional method to get more air to my intake without trashing the lines of the xA. In 9 more days I think it will be offical that design 1 wins. Then we can get on with pricing and delivery times.
Ashe_WCM
02-20-2005, 01:08 AM
Are you going to cram your intake on top of your intake manifold? How is that going to get more air to your intake? It possibly may cool the air your intake gets but not by much.
Almost every Aftermarket intake draws air from the battery side of the engine compartment. Are you going to install a director plate to keep the flow of hot air from your radiator away from your intake?
Don't get me wrong it's a lovely hood but it's not going to give you any sort of performance gain, none of them are.
Oni-Haya
02-20-2005, 02:20 AM
TAKE THAT BACK ... I will get at least 0.1 hp by directing air through the scoop to my short ram injen intake.
It will improve performance by a smidge through the ram air function, but the real perfromance increase will be in looks. My xA RS1 will sure look faster

The Ferrari type scoop was copied for the S2000, but only a couple of people bought it (forward facing scoops are too old-school!):
http://www.mastergrade.net/images/hood1.jpg
Also, why would you produce scoop #1 when there is already a design like that for the xA:
If scoop number 1 is intended to get air to your intake, how are you going to stop water from flowing onto your intake when it rains?
Number 4 is a better design because the lip on the front of the vent provides a small amount of downforce. The design also removes a lot of heat from the engine compartment, which can prevent heat soak, depending on your intake.
I think reverse vents are the way to go, especially on small hoods:
Kodokan ... First, the C-One hood is $900 + Shipping, way outside my price range! Second, do you think rain will not go in ANY opening in the hood? Would you drive in the rain with your sunroof open? Same - same.
Bottom line is if you don't like design one, don't vote for it. I won't rag on your selection, and don't rag on mine.
Stay groovy ... (old school)

I hear you, but same = NOT same.
You are correct if the car is not moving in the rain, but at speed, the forward facing scoops force air in, while the reverse vents force air out. The forward facing scoop will ingest much more water.
My opinions have nothing to do with your selection. These are the reasons why I have chosen one hood over the other. Feel free to voice your own opinions, but don't try to stifle mine.

This is the design that should be done for the xA! I'll bet it would be a big seller.
This Kaminari hood just came out for the Scion TC. Hopefully someone will start manufacturing this style for the xA.
I'll contact Kaminari and find out if they have any intentions on producing this hood for the xA.
If no one produces it within a few months, I'll start looking into having one made.

No.1 and send a prototype of the hood to me ! hahahah......
I talked with Coi about this hood today and a few other things! If we can get the support he will make them... I jokingly mentioned a CF hatch, Coi just told me to get the support for it and he would gladly make one.
Its a Quality hood @ half the price and a 1/4 of the wait the only other option ive found.
I dont know what hood this is or anything about the pic but wanted to give some guys a example of what this would/could look like.

I believe this is the same hood you are talking about:
There is only one reason I didn't buy the above hood, and it's not the price, or the wait. -I don't like the design.
I think on a vented hood, the trailing edges of the vent should flare out, not go in, or straight, like on the above hood. Having the trailing edges flare out increases air speed by using the venturi effect, and looks better, too. The edges don't have to flare out much, but I think the above hood doesn't look right.
If you are talking about making the vented hood out of 1x1 weave, which is stronger, and has true JDM style, sign me up now! If Coi can make a matching CF rear hatch, sign me up for that too! I'm ready to pay if you can make that happen, and the products are good quality.
How's that for support?
