View Full Version : Taillights question?

For those of you who don't have the stock taillights. When you use the turn signal is the light bulb yellow as usual or does it flash the red light? If not is it possible to add it? Are there any aftermarket taillights that flash yellow when turning? Also post what kind of taillights you have, thanx for the help.

New question to add. I will need to get the reflectors for the HELIX lights. Where can I buy those by themselves? Do they have them at shops aka.. pep boys, autozone? Thanks for any help in advance.

Depends on which ones you want? I have the altezza tail lights. When I use the turn signal's, they are yellow.

The TYC altezza-style lenses flash red. if you really wanted them to be yellow, you could always open the housing up (yes, it's possible, a _____, but possible) and remove the top red lens - OR use the hammer/screwdriver/pliers method and bust the lens out through the lightbulb hole - then just a NE (natural amber) bulb instead of a clear one.

So the altezza have the yellow turn signal, good to know. I can't decide which one's to get just that I want the turn signal to flash yellow. Why? because I am just weird that way. Thanks VELOCITYBB for the info. Any body else know any other taillights that have the yellow taillight signal, don't really care the brand (as long as it's a good brand)?

Thank you WINDOWTINT good to know it is possible to mod the light. Any other lights that have a yellow turn signal or able to change or mod?

The Helix tails you can have them whatever color you want (legality not withstanding) because the lights are totally clear. Just put in an amber bulb.

I am asuming that it is not legal if you don't have the right colors for the bulb. But as long as you do it should be fine, right? Thank you so much for the info KEVINXB.

Depends where you live. They don't have the red reflector built in like the stock ones do. They do come with a separate one, but you can probably get away without sticking that on the back of your car depending on the cops over there.

The ebay auction says it comes with red bulbs for the stop lights and amber ones for the signals. Use a white one for reverse and you should be good to go.

Supposidly you need the reflector to be legal, but i have heard that the crystal clear reflects the lights enough to make them look legal. I should have the helix tail lights on in a week and i can give you a def answer. Just as soon as the box gets out of the shop.

Los Angeles is a _____ so I'm pretty sure I will have to get reflectors, I'll have to look around to be sure, but thanx KEVINXB. And CRAB NASTY definetly let me know when you get the box out of the shop. Thank to all who have replyed for all the info.

My friend DaJap also has the helix clear not smoked and they have a red film on the top light, its not a reflector though it just gives the illusion of having the reflector, they are sweet looking.
Heres our website with a few pix of his tail lights, i tried to post the pix but my computer or i am being retarded. if you got to the bottom of the page and scroll up it is the first silver xb you come to. http://www.scionevonorfla.com/msgboard/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=32&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

Miggy - I used to live in North County LA, the helix ones are going to get you puled over. If you have the reflector you won't not get ticketed, but you'll still get stopped and it'll take you an extra ten minutes for every trip you make because you'll be explaining to the cop why they're legal.

miggy
02-11-2005, 11:14 PM
Well i just won't get these then at all if I am going to get pulled over.

KevinxB
02-12-2005, 02:56 AM
Probably the best way to go. Better to not spend the money and then have some cop tell you to take 'em off.

while we're on the topic, I've had my eye on these for awhile, now if I'm correct its only the reflector thats red, I could just use an amber bulb right (although I'm not sure how it would look).

I dunno any of the local laws or anything, but I'd rather not take a chance, also I like the amber better in terms of safety, casue other drivers are stupid.

Word to your mother. ''

Alot of trucks have been using red rear turn signals for years. I honestly hate amber. If someone doent figure out what a red blinking light on the right rear of a car mean they're turning right that driver should be shot.

KevinxB
02-12-2005, 09:03 PM
Its just easier to distingish the amber of the signal from the red in the tail light. Not everyone is a good driver with good eyes. That little detail might mean the difference between your getting rear ended or not.

I disagree. Let them hit me and get a new car and hopefully that blind bat's license taken away. If that is what it takes for someone to realize how bad their eyesight is . Eyesight degrades over a period of years. If people are so involded in other things while driving the'll hit ya either way.

miggy
02-13-2005, 01:08 AM
Yeaaah... But if you die who get the new car. Regardless an accident will happen and if the amber light helps a little for some people then go for it. we can't help the one already out of it.

Death from a rear ender? Oh well. I get what you guys mean , I just cannot stand amber signals.

I have a set for sale for $48.00 which I plan to put in the classified section. They are the JDM TYC Altezza type model number 11-5380. Clear with red brake light.

I bought a new set so I'm getting rid of these.

Well I disagree with that. I just got rear ended, yeah the girls insurance paid to fix it but I would rather not have been in an accident in the first place. I wouldn't care if she got thrown in jail because of it, my car ended up being damaged, which I know you know is upsetting regardless who pays to fix it.
