View Full Version : Magnetic door protector
wooish 02-09-2005, 03:03 AM Any1 ever use this? Do they work? I already got chip in the door possibly from someone dinging my door from a private parking lot. I'm thinking of trying these to protect the car from dinging.

xnevergiveinx 02-09-2005, 04:49 AM well, if you want your car too lokk really bad, you can get that, i don't know which is worse though, the magnetic thing or deep dings in your door. i guess it would be an awesome idea for me to keep in my car, whenever i park at school, my car gets dinged. i don't think it will help too much with dents though
toby3002 02-09-2005, 05:15 AM put it on when you park, take it off when you leave!
hotbox05 02-09-2005, 07:50 AM wonder how well it works? if it works well enough i'd sacrifice looks for the lessening of dings
wooish 02-09-2005, 03:24 PM I'm only gonna put it on when I park and take it off when I leave. If this thing prevents both ding and dent then it's excellent, otherwise I'm still happy if this prevents dings. I guess $30 is worth a try consider it cost $50 to fix a ding/dent
xnevergiveinx 02-09-2005, 03:33 PM i wish it was only $50 to fix a ding, most places charge about $100 for each golfball size ding, if they can get to it
wooish 02-14-2005, 02:24 AM Just to let u all know that I just got two of these protector and they worked great. I'm gonna get another two to cover both doors on both sides. Gave me piece of mind since I parked between two cars every day
FrankenScion 02-14-2005, 02:30 AM What stops someone from stealing it?
KAOS29 02-14-2005, 02:34 AM yea i know... any1 can take it.... you gona buy new one?...lol watch some1 takes it and dings your door ... HAHAHA.. or take if off and ding it and put it back on.. .
BLK_BOX 02-14-2005, 02:50 AM nothing stops them from taking it. So you pretty much spend your money for nothing!
AmericanIST 02-15-2005, 05:49 AM I was thinking the same thing lol. Someone's just gonna rip it off. I have a second car I drive if I'm going to the mall etc. just because I don't want anyone dinging-up the Scion.
Somnambulated 02-15-2005, 07:12 AM I want to carry four of those inflatable mattresses for camping in my trunk.
Blow 'em up, stand them around your car, and you're pretty safe from dings...
TheKnown 02-15-2005, 07:36 AM yea, and if that doesnt work, you can still use the matresses and have your passengers sleep on them and guard your car while you get your ____ done
BLK_BOX 02-16-2005, 04:10 AM    :rolling:
Sublimize23 02-16-2005, 04:19 AM I just park away from everything... only one door ding so far...
Daewootech 02-16-2005, 04:31 AM yea i know... any1 can take it.... you gona buy new one?...lol watch some1 takes it and dings your door ... HAHAHA.. or take if off and ding it and put it back on.. .

Another thing about magnetic, it attracts metal shavings and particles, even if the magnet was covered in something such as a felt or something that wouldnt scratch the paint, the particles that it picks up everytime you take it on and off wil eventualy turn that strip into a giant piece of sandpaper.
and since you cant usualy take magnets off straight you usualy slide then at least a bit, youll be sanding you car every time you use them.
Max2k 02-16-2005, 07:22 PM You'd need 4 of them...
cseika 03-24-2005, 01:05 PM The magnets on that thing is actually very soft!! Almost like an eraser! I bought them.. cuz i was sick of ppl continuing to ding my car! itz like $75 per ding to fix!!
Had it for 3-4 months!! It LOOKS LIKE ____ when its on the car so most ppl don't even know WTF it is! So far none has been stolen yet.. and i use it almost every other day!
Works really well.. and No worries about scratches! as long as you keep the area where the rubber magnet sticks waxed!!
RacerxB 03-24-2005, 01:17 PM I was thinking of using bubble wrap. simply wrap my car each time but then I realized I would have every little kid at my car popping the bubbles.
So I'm thinking of getting boat bumpers and hanging them out my windows by a string so they protect the doors each time.

maybe you should hook a tazer into your cars ground, and set it to a proximity sensor, so that anytime someone goes near or touches your car, they got shocked the crap out of them ,
UnFocused 03-30-2005, 05:47 AM Yeah, I know how you guys feel about door dings! I work at a Fred Meyer (Owned by Kroger) and I feel bad about leaving my box out of my sight for 9 hours a day! i do however double park in the farthest out spot in the parking lot...but the bottom line is, with my luck, even if I put on this magnetic gaurd thing-someone will still find a way to F up my car!
DINGdefender 01-22-2006, 08:38 PM Looks like you guys are looking for a ding defender that can stay on the car... or not... while driving.
If so, you might want to check out DINGdefenders at http://dingdefender.com
They really work and come in 50+ colors!
It's your car... your doors.
There are millions of dings out there searching for your doors.
We just stop dings from getting on yours :relief:
but you can't stop mid. size tree branches from ding the top of your doors
DINGdefender 01-23-2006, 05:54 AM Maybe that's a new category, called a BrING, short for branch ding. I think that'd be more of a scratch than a ding. Dings are usually less that a dime in size and caused by the edge of someone else's door.
kentuc 01-24-2006, 03:31 AM Those magnetic things are good for covering the dings.

Yup... cheaper than the body shop and they'll keep you from getting more, too
Unfortunately, it won't guard against sand storms or "mudding" in the desert.
