View Full Version : H&R Cup Suspension Kit
itzjere 02-09-2005, 04:27 AM Was on TireRack today looking for shocks for my future suspension mod and came across the H&R Cup Suspension Kit. Anyone have any opinion or feedback on them? I think they're relatively new so I doubt anyone on this board has them yet (maybe I'll be the first :) ). Anyways, wondering if anyone has any feedback if they're had them on previous cars or anything? I'm currently deciding between these, or Koni Sports for the Echo that I'm hoping  will fit on my xA.
H&R Cup Suspension Kit
Note: Avg low 2.2"F 1.8"R
Kit: $547
Koni
Front set: $322
Rear set: $194
H&R Racing Spring Set: $179
Total: $695
Any words of wisdom? Thanks.
mikochu 02-09-2005, 04:36 AM The only problem I have with the H&R cup kit is the drop... I think that's _way_ too low for the street.
Also, with the Koni shocks...they are adjustable, no? That's always a plus.
hotbox05 02-09-2005, 04:40 AM 2.2 is no where near way too low.
itzjere 02-09-2005, 04:56 AM Yes, the Koni's are adjustable, however, I am unsure of the fitment.
a) If the Koni Echo shocks will fit onto the xA fine
b) If H&R springs for an xA will fit onto Koni Echo shocks.
I'm willing to give the H&R Cup Kit a shot because they're much cheaper than my Koni setup, as well as I won't have to worry about fitment.
I'm reading on H&R's site that it's recommend that I change the chambers. Can anyone explain to me what that is and what it does?
Buzzkill 02-09-2005, 05:08 AM I had the HR Cup Kit on my 2002 GTi. The ride quality was obviously stiffer, more controlled, and the appearance far nicer, but they were certainly not abusive nor too low. I have only the RS-R springs in my xB presently, and although they are working great, I will eventually replace them with the HR Cup Kit.

A and B...Yes.
itzjere 02-09-2005, 05:15 AM A and B...Yes.
Horray that this fit! No-horray that my dilemma has just gotten bigger
Now it's just money, and other people's feedback! As of right now, 1+ for H&R! Keep the comments coming!
hotbox05 02-09-2005, 07:00 AM dude get some tanabe coilovers. only like 800 and much better .
itzjere 02-09-2005, 04:07 PM Ahhhhh, what the hell! TireRack changed the price of the H&R Cup Kits overnight from $547 to $636!
RogerTTR 02-09-2005, 05:11 PM Sorry about that, our price from H & R just went up as well!
camoboXb 02-09-2005, 05:40 PM still less than $550 here:

Awesome! Thanks for the link. Hopefully they don't change anytime soon!
hotbox05 02-10-2005, 02:59 AM jeremy if you want sport with comfort and alot better appearance get the tanabe sustec coilovers not much more for alot better package.

I think Tamago has the tanabe setup. If I recall correctly, he said it's a little on the soft side when it comes to the dampening.
I think Tein is the only Japanese company that can service the dampers in the US. All the others have you ship them back to Japan. However, if I were to get Tein coilovers, I'd get a Super Street setup (EDFC compatible or not).
As of right now, once my stock shocks blow, I'll probably get Koni Yellow shocks for my eibach springs. If I end up wanting to go lower...probably Tein SS.
itzjere 02-10-2005, 03:57 AM If I decide to go with the Koni setup, will I need new cambers?
stankubrick 02-10-2005, 04:37 AM I thought about the H&R Cups, but I don't wanna be the guinea pig.
Mikochu: How soft are the Tanabes? Soft as in comfy or soft as in bouncy? I just want the most comfy/not bouncy ride possible with a 2+ in drop - I won't be racing. I've pretty much decided on Tein Basics, any reason I should spend the extra for the SS?

I don't know... Tamago never "rode me in his car."
StevisXb 02-10-2005, 10:56 AM I think it's kind of fishy that Tirerack would raise its price overnight! They raised the price cause we started showing interest in the package so our friend Roger changed the numbers. Not cool at all. :ttth:
uncompiled 02-10-2005, 01:19 PM Sorry about that, our price from H & R just went up as well!
I already made my order, so does that mean I'm going to be charged the original price when it ships?
Either way, it looks like I will probably be the guinea pig.

I completely agree with you. The H&R Race Springs just went up in price as wel from $179 to $199. Either that or H&R is changing the price for all their products.

I'm pretty sure they will honor the price you ordered them at. It'd be really bad of them if they changed the prices after you ordered and expected you to pay the new price. Be sure to take pictures and give us some feedback!

Tirerack is a very big national company, so I don't think that a few people on this forum showing interest would influence such a price increase, especially if other H&R products also increased in price.
:eyebrow:
unlmtdndeavor 02-16-2005, 09:18 AM i agree, i think h&r upped the price.
StevisXb 02-18-2005, 03:22 AM Anyone install this kit yet? I'm seriously considering this purchase over the Goldlines, simply for the fact that I want to do it right the first time.
hotbox05 02-18-2005, 07:54 AM We tried to install the race springs in conjunction with echo koni yellows. But to run them you need the echo upper strut mounts, not good.
itzjere 02-18-2005, 07:57 AM Yea, I guess there will be some fitment to be done :( Off to the junkyard I go for Echo upper strut tower.
