Well.. after refusing the first TCM Xb, I received a call from the dealer last night and they had one come in, not a dealer trade.
This one had only 7 miles on it and no holes drilled in the fascia. I drove it home last night and all seems well.
Its dark in there! None of the buttons light up on the drivers side door, same for the left side dashboard... not really a problem.... but I'm not used to it being so dark directly in front of me at night... Will get used to it...
In the glovebox there was a bag with two plugs in it. It says these need to be installed at pre-delivery. I can't make out the diagram on the instructions... It looks like it goes under the car? Anyone know about this....
Otherwise all is well and it rides nice... looking forward to getting it broken in some...
thanks

How much did you pay out the door and what options did you get?

I got an auto with cruise and cargo/floor mats.
I was able to haggle with them and got the options for free and the car itself for just under $15K.
My out the door price was $15.8K (which includes TTL)
I did not have a trade and paid cash for it..
How did I do? They said it was all fixed pricing... but when you go to buy a car in the slow winter season right at the end of month... they seem to pull out all the stops to get you to buy...

Wow, a dude with a Z06 buying a box, I'm really interested
in what you think of the car/truck/thing a month from now!
I should have haggled for floormats or something, but
I don't think they were budging...I'm no good at that stuff.
Keep us posted! And congrats on the new purchase!

Does this mean you got the auto-transmission at no charge, or just the cruise and cargo/floor mats? Curious. I always considered the transmission choice an option.

I am talking about dealer options... not factory base options... I got the cruise and mats as my only options .

My other beater car was a 95 Civic DX.. so the box is similar in power and weight..
I consider the box to be adequate and the vette insane... In the cold weather... I can break the tires loose in the first 3 gears at will... and thats on dry pavement.
It's nice to have something with more than two seats that can carry stuff too... Thats why I got the auto box, for those bad weather days when traffic sucks.

I drive (old and slow) Porsches, so I got the box for the same
reason you did, which is why I was curious how you will feel
about the box later. I've seen many guys with hot-rods and
performance cars get the box and are quite delighted months
later, even though it has a severe lack of power.
One of my other hobbies is buying, building, and repairing
vacuume tube guitar amps...so I've been dreaming of a
truck I could haul amps around in, but I dislike the overlarge
gas guzzling SUVs on the market. My SAAB with the huge
hatchback was fine till it got totaled, so the xB is a perfect
replacement!
I just have to teach myself that the box can't take
off ramps at 85Mph like I'm used to doing in the Porsche! LOL

We seem to have much in common. My home 2 channel audio system is all tubes. Nothing sounds better than tube gear.
I don't think I will get bored with the Xb as long as I can slip into the vette when I need a fix :)
The Xb seems to be perfect for scooting around and running errands. Who needs 405+ HP when you're sitting in traffic... I'll save the vette for those times when I can drive it fast...
I'll post a month or so from now and let you know if I'm still having fun with the Toy-Box

YUP. Tubes rule.
Who needs 405+ HP when you're sitting in traffic...
A question I often wondered about myself. No offense to the ones who own fast cars, but I would go nuts not being able to open the car up once in a while. I suppose that's why I'll stick with the Beetles and Boxes for a while, or at least untill I live somewhere where I can just flat out drive on lonely flat roads...

You took my quote out of context. For everyday use driving the vette is not so bad, just a little impractical.... especially in bad weather when traffic comes to a crawl. In every day driving there is always a chance to get on it.... from a light, freeway ramps, etc.
Around here we have lots of twisting country roads... which are pure delight...
The Z06 has paid for itself many times over... it is truly a blast to drive... There is nothing like going thru the gears and getting those rear tires to break loose during shifts. It corners like its on rails with no body lean or squirm. It an E ticket ride without having to stand in line... It's pretty comfy too considering what its desgined for. I had a regular C5 before the Z06. It was fun but not as serious as the Z.
The Box will keep the Z06 fresh and exciting for those special times it comes out to play...
