View Full Version : new style carbon fiber hood katch 02-09-2005, 07:29 PM could someone give me some idea's in a new style hood for the TC let me know what kind of hood you would like. Cameron 02-09-2005, 07:39 PM A hood with an offset, functional intake scoop would be sweet. Include internal parts that would direct air to the intake. katch 02-09-2005, 07:48 PM A hood with an offset, functional intake scoop would be sweet. Include internal parts that would direct air to the intake.ok functional scoop not to sure about the internal part that will direst air into the intake, not sayin it cant be done but im pretty sure it will cost a lot more. katch 02-09-2005, 09:44 PM please dont ask for a evo style or invador hood. mrlaypo 02-09-2005, 09:53 PM if i had a tc... i'd want something with a scoop too. sorry im not much help. i have zero creativity  smurf3642 02-09-2005, 10:12 PM I'd say a hood scoop (functional) right over the intake box... I think that'd look different good... katch 02-09-2005, 10:38 PM ^^^ thta s what im thinking. silversciontc 02-09-2005, 10:46 PM This may sound dumb but hey I will give it a shot..... What if you created some type of hood that had a functional scoop.....but include a filter of sorts so the engine bay wont get so dirty...... And I mean a scoop that just cools the engine bay itself..... eh just an idea.... BlkSandPrlTurbotC 02-09-2005, 11:33 PM how about no scoop, and you have vents instead LowProMofo 02-10-2005, 12:34 AM A Cowl hood would look good too IMO TeamMightyMiniz 02-10-2005, 04:21 AM yea, Try this http://www.jsonline.com/graphics/wheels/img/may04/w2big051104.jpg or this http://www.powersys.com/auto_show2004/Saab%209-2X%20Pic%202-pt.jpg here's one to consider http://e30m3performance.com/installs/installs-3/hood-vent/pic1.jpg You could get crazy with these ideas http://www.velocitydynamix.com/sitebuilder/images/c-west-240sx-s13-type1-hood-285x180.jpg and http://www.velocitydynamix.com/sitebuilder/images/C-West-GDB-Type-2-FrontBumper-01-285x180.jpg Darkness 02-10-2005, 04:33 AM the scoops or vents would be cool, but i would say make sure they look smooth/flush with the hood. Not like on that pic of the saab where it looks like it was stuck on the normal hood. ScottsdaleTC 02-10-2005, 04:39 AM A hood with an offset, functional intake scoop would be sweet. Include internal parts that would direct air to the intake. I second that, How is pulling hot air from the engine compartment or from the fender well optimal for intake performance? I would think that pulling clean cool air from the front end or hood would offer much better performance. TeamMightyMiniz 02-10-2005, 04:54 AM the scoops or vents would be cool, but i would say make sure they look smooth/flush with the hood. Not like on that pic of the saab where it looks like it was stuck on the normal hood. Stuck on? Look again, there is a buldge there to compensate for the Intercooler. FoRk 02-10-2005, 05:07 AM maybe something with the skyline style scoop over the intake, that would be nice happies713 02-10-2005, 05:14 AM the subaru one would look very good. RacerZack 02-10-2005, 05:29 AM How is pulling hot air from the engine compartment or from the fender well optimal for intake performance? I would think that pulling clean cool air from the front end or hood would offer much better performance. It's kind of the same idea in reverse. Instead of pushing cooler air into the engine bay, you create a vent which will suck the hot air out. Either way, you're creating a colder environment for the intake. It is just a difference in technology, when done right. I agree that the Saab's scoop looks "tacked on" (even with the bulge). The best scoops or vents will look as if they "grew" in place. When there is an obvious cut or join line, the scoop looks like an afterthought. I personally like the reverse-cowl style of intake. Or, if it's going to be a bulding scoop, how about taking a hint from the '70s and incorporate some kind of gauge on the backside? Air temperature, oil pressure, etc. That'd be trick. I don't know if I'd put it on my own tC, but it's something different. TeamMightyMiniz 02-10-2005, 06:05 AM The join line is very common... http://www.dub-nation.com/show/eurosunday/images/1-eurosunday_32.jpg and does not look like an afterthought TimO 02-10-2005, 06:07 AM I vote for the Xtreme GT hood for the celica. That is one of the sexiest hoods ive seen. Somnambulated 02-10-2005, 08:17 AM As long as you offer the new hood for less than $800.00, I'll be interested. I think the Subaru hood is the best out of all of them, although the Mini style might look allright too. Something different. I wouldn't mind a second reverse-cowl style, but I would make the opening a little more 'blended in' with the hood. As mentioned earlier in the thread, it ought to blend with the rest of the hood, and match the rest of the body style. i.e., not look like a bolt-on scoup. Somnambulated 02-10-2005, 10:59 AM the scoops or vents would be cool, but i would say make sure they look smooth/flush with the hood. Not like on that pic of the saab where it looks like it was stuck on the normal hood. Stuck on? Look again, there is a buldge there to compensate for the Intercooler. The front part of the scoop still looks stuck on, bob. ScionTCTrav 02-10-2005, 01:24 PM Anything w/ a Scoop on it..Im throwing a Turbo on it in June and I want something w/ a Vent or Scoop on it...CARBON FIBER 2@!! katch 02-10-2005, 04:15 PM so it seems to be everyone likes the scoop where the intake will sit. What would you guys think of the TC had a "top secret" style hood? katch 02-10-2005, 04:16 PM can someone please post a pic of a TC engine bay with a intake. jmiller20874 02-10-2005, 07:53 PM please dont ask for a evo style or invador hood. Damn, I really like the Evo 8's hood. Oh well. http://fp.images.autos.msn.com/merismus/gallery/c450786a.jpg onemorescion 02-10-2005, 08:03 PM Katch, what about a TRD style hood that was available on the MKIV Supra. I've always been a fan of the TRD hood, it's not wild, just simple with simple vents....IMO http://www.raceonusa.com/ProductImages/supra_93/supra_93_raceon_carbon_hood_td3000gt_01.jpg http://www.jscspeed.com/part_pictures/trd_replicamk4hood.gif maximus96 02-10-2005, 09:21 PM how would these vents work in the rain? will the water damage anything? how about when washing the car and spraying it with a garden hose? katch 02-10-2005, 09:57 PM when I said evo hood I ment the "vis" evo that has about four vents. Chaos_Being 02-10-2005, 10:14 PM I've said it before in the appearance forums, but I'd love to see something similar to the hood on the current Celicas. Or, something like a WRX hood...basically something with a real (not bolt-on crud) functional hood scoop, like a lot of other people seem to be interested in :) Center scoop though for me, not offset. IWantAtC 02-11-2005, 08:28 AM I've always liked the scoop on the 04 mustang gt's http://www.etconnect.com/gt/FeaPic/ga04gtc1.jpg How the hood goes down and into the scoop. Not sure how good a similar one would look on a tC though. tCtunerZ 02-11-2005, 08:45 AM Its hard to say without seeing the Supercharger... There are so many vents or looks you can go with that will fit the tC. http://www.tctunerz.com/images/stories/albums/sciontc-ext-ideas/martin_hood.jpg The AM style hood and smaller vented KIT style fenders. The xB with Celica hood scoop looked really clean. KAEON... got any eye candy?? Somnambulated 02-11-2005, 09:43 AM please dont ask for a evo style or invador hood. Damn, I really like the Evo 8's hood. Oh well. http://fp.images.autos.msn.com/merismus/gallery/c450786a.jpg Actually, I think that would be a really clean look on the tC. And please stay away from ideas like the white Beamer on the first page of the thread. It looks like someone fiberglassed an air duct from their central heating onto the hood of their car. ScionTCTrav 02-11-2005, 02:33 PM If U do, do this make it look even..dont just put it on the right side of the hood, put em on the left.make it look even.. fiskadoro 02-11-2005, 03:50 PM am i like the only one here who thinks a carbon fiber hood with NO hood scoop would be nice - in the same kind of style as the b-pillar applique? katch 02-11-2005, 08:05 PM so does any one have pix of a tc engine bay. erc 02-17-2005, 01:40 PM am i like the only one here who thinks a carbon fiber hood with NO hood scoop would be nice - in the same kind of style as the b-pillar applique? An OEM style CF hood already exists. how would these vents work in the rain? will the water damage anything? how about when washing the car and spraying it with a garden hose? Lots of people have vented hoods. Snow/water doesn't hurt anything, in fact, I've cleaned out my engine bay on my other cars plenty of times and rinsed it off with water from a hose. No big deal. My Celica (see pictures below) has sat through heavy snow storms in northern Maine.. got some snow under the hood, no problems. Katch, what about a TRD style hood that was available on the MKIV Supra. I've always been a fan of the TRD hood, it's not wild, just simple with simple vents....IMO I definatly dig the TRD MKIV Supra hood. I'd be very happy with something like that. With the number of people adding turbos (me included) a good vented hood would be nice to have. Just another idea: vented hood in the style of the 6th Gen GT-Four Celica? Here are pics of my old celica with the JDM GT-Four hood and bumper: http://www.caribou-maine.net/gallery/celica It's got an open vent on the top/center of the hood to let cool air in, and two small vents on either side of the hood near the windshield to vent hot air out. EDIT: I'll try to get pics of the engine bay tonight, but you should be able to find pleny of them all over the internet. Chaos_Being 02-17-2005, 11:38 PM Here are pics of my old celica with the JDM GT-Four hood and bumper: http://www.caribou-maine.net/gallery/celica It's got an open vent on the top/center of the hood to let cool air in, and two small vents on either side of the hood near the windshield to vent hot air out. I like that hood a lot...I think something like that would look great on the tC! Streeter 04-21-2005, 02:55 PM I always wondered what would happen if you had a scoop and went to wash your car in one of those touchless car washes...? Anyone? futuretCbuyer 04-21-2005, 03:51 PM And just so everyone knows, I came across a universal weapon R system that can hook up to their original intake. it's a flex tube that can hook up where you get constant air flow making it just like the ram air system in the grand ams. It actually looked pretty cool and functional. TeamMightyMiniz 04-21-2005, 06:27 PM the stock tC intake setup is pretty good, If you had a ram air from the hood, you might need to configure a water trap. valeriecason 04-21-2005, 06:33 PM Its hard to say without seeing the Supercharger... KAEON... got any eye candy?? ahhhhh  wyldkard 04-21-2005, 07:10 PM I give you sexy... http://www.ferrariusa.com/575M/img/Intro05_480.JPG http://www.ferrariusa.com/575M/img/Intro07_480.JPG -Z ScionGTR 04-21-2005, 07:18 PM Hood scoops no help whats so ever. May be if we had the engines facing side ways. probly yeah. But i would go with the TRD hood, even thou it might not look very nice on our tC. But it's worth givin a try. indecisive311 04-21-2005, 10:10 PM I'd like to see a hood for the tC with a laser canon sticking out of it... http://www.laughatrice.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/g21p10.jpg boostedscion 04-24-2005, 05:38 PM a Function drifter style hood will be nice 21:13 04-24-2005, 07:11 PM My vote is always for OEM. IMO, vents are nine times out of ten useless, and would only be beneficial if you were rockin the short ram intakes. Engine cooling? Yeah, I guess it would help that somewhat, but unless your out there keeping it close the the red, useless. OEM will give you a nice clean look. Immolatus 04-24-2005, 07:40 PM I think that any of the ideas are as good as any other as long as its done with class. Instead of throwing it with idea of marketing to ricers, lets see something thats tacktfully and tastefully done that will appeal to a crowd desiring functionality while adding a little asthetics. Functoinality is #1 on my list, followed by looks. insanetc 04-25-2005, 03:44 AM yah the evo hood is sick but alot of people have them well around my area they do on civic and stuff so i would deff want something different to....the hood you want would only be good if you had a short ram intake right because cold air goes throughg the fender wells and infront of the tires you know what i mean..but a hood for the intercooler for a supercharger would be awesome...becaus esome intercooler for superchargers are on the top of the enginge block like mini coopers and mustangs.... andWILLsays 04-30-2005, 04:04 AM nice streetstealth 04-30-2005, 06:57 PM how bout an ae101 levin gtz hood its funtionional, stylish, and its all toyota insanetc 05-10-2005, 02:22 AM do you have pics of that hood i have never even seen or heard of it taek 05-10-2005, 03:03 AM how about a hood with vents. above the importnat parts of the engine bay. streetstealth 05-10-2005, 03:41 PM http://www.4age.net/gallery/later/019.jpg davedavetC 05-10-2005, 04:41 PM what ever hood it is could it also come in fiberglass or something. you know for the people that dont want to put carbon fiber on their car but still want a better looking hood. fivepointnine 05-10-2005, 07:27 PM I think a celica style hood would be nice Crafter 05-10-2005, 08:21 PM i'm with the TRD hood DouBLeJ16 05-11-2005, 09:04 AM the EVO 8 hood would look PERFECT on a tC. boostedscion 05-12-2005, 09:03 AM can't wait till one is done tiny 05-12-2005, 09:07 AM How about this. First look at the tc. It is a smooth and slick car all around. Nothing sticking out like those door guards found on other cars...just a clean look. Why not keep it looking naturally smooth looking with a functional hood scoop. And another important factor to add on... a new design (with the functional hood scoop and clean/snooth/flush look) so that it can be first and only be seen on the tc... not some copycat off another car. raceonusa 08-01-2006, 03:49 PM Here's a vented hood we make, wasn't sure if you guys have seen this yet. http://www.jmetenterprises.com/ProductImages/tc_04/tc_04_raceon_carbon_hood_jrac_01.jpg http://www.jmetenterprises.com/ProductImages/tc_04/tc_04_raceon_frp_hood_jrac_01.jpg D1G1T4L 08-03-2006, 03:55 PM Wow, this thread is a relic. Everybody wants a scoop "right above the intake." Jesus. If you did it that way, the scoop would be on the side of the car, because the intake is in the fender.
