A hood with an offset, functional intake scoop would be sweet. Include internal parts that would direct air to the intake.

I'd say a hood scoop (functional) right over the intake box...

I think that'd look different good...

This may sound dumb but hey I will give it a shot.....

What if you created some type of hood that had a functional scoop.....but include a filter of sorts so the engine bay wont get so dirty......

And I mean a scoop that just cools the engine bay itself.....

eh just an idea....

how about no scoop, and you have vents instead

the scoops or vents would be cool, but i would say make sure they look smooth/flush with the hood. Not like on that pic of the saab where it looks like it was stuck on the normal hood.

I second that,

How is pulling hot air from the engine compartment or from the fender well optimal for intake performance? I would think that pulling clean cool air from the front end or hood would offer much better performance.

Stuck on?

Look again, there is a buldge there to compensate for the Intercooler.

It's kind of the same idea in reverse. Instead of pushing cooler air into the engine bay, you create a vent which will suck the hot air out. Either way, you're creating a colder environment for the intake. It is just a difference in technology, when done right.

I agree that the Saab's scoop looks "tacked on" (even with the bulge). The best scoops or vents will look as if they "grew" in place. When there is an obvious cut or join line, the scoop looks like an afterthought.

I personally like the reverse-cowl style of intake. Or, if it's going to be a bulding scoop, how about taking a hint from the '70s and incorporate some kind of gauge on the backside? Air temperature, oil pressure, etc. That'd be trick. I don't know if I'd put it on my own tC, but it's something different.

The join line is very common...

I vote for the Xtreme GT hood for the celica. That is one of the sexiest hoods ive seen.

As long as you offer the new hood for less than $800.00, I'll be interested.

I think the Subaru hood is the best out of all of them, although the Mini style might look allright too. Something different.

I wouldn't mind a second reverse-cowl style, but I would make the opening a little more 'blended in' with the hood.

As mentioned earlier in the thread, it ought to blend with the rest of the hood, and match the rest of the body style. i.e., not look like a bolt-on scoup.

Katch, what about a TRD style hood that was available on the MKIV Supra. I've always been a fan of the TRD hood, it's not wild, just simple with simple vents....IMO

I've said it before in the appearance forums, but I'd love to see something similar to the hood on the current Celicas. Or, something like a WRX hood...basically something with a real (not bolt-on crud) functional hood scoop, like a lot of other people seem to be interested in :) Center scoop though for me, not offset.

I've always liked the scoop on the 04 mustang gt's

Its hard to say without seeing the Supercharger... There are so many vents or looks you can go with that will fit the tC.

Actually, I think that would be a really clean look on the tC.

And please stay away from ideas like the white Beamer on the first page of the thread. It looks like someone fiberglassed an air duct from their central heating onto the hood of their car.

An OEM style CF hood already exists.

Lots of people have vented hoods. Snow/water doesn't hurt anything, in fact, I've cleaned out my engine bay on my other cars plenty of times and rinsed it off with water from a hose. No big deal. My Celica (see pictures below) has sat through heavy snow storms in northern Maine.. got some snow under the hood, no problems.

Katch, what about a TRD style hood that was available on the MKIV Supra. I've always been a fan of the TRD hood, it's not wild, just simple with simple vents....IMO
I definatly dig the TRD MKIV Supra hood. I'd be very happy with something like that. With the number of people adding turbos (me included) a good vented hood would be nice to have.

Just another idea: vented hood in the style of the 6th Gen GT-Four Celica?

Here are pics of my old celica with the JDM GT-Four hood and bumper:
http://www.caribou-maine.net/gallery/celica

It's got an open vent on the top/center of the hood to let cool air in, and two small vents on either side of the hood near the windshield to vent hot air out.

EDIT: I'll try to get pics of the engine bay tonight, but you should be able to find pleny of them all over the internet.

I always wondered what would happen if you had a scoop and went to wash your car in one of those touchless car washes...? Anyone?

And just so everyone knows, I came across a universal weapon R system that can hook up to their original intake. it's a flex tube that can hook up where you get constant air flow making it just like the ram air system in the grand ams. It actually looked pretty cool and functional.

TeamMightyMiniz
04-21-2005, 06:27 PM
the stock tC intake setup is pretty good, If you had a ram air from the hood, you might need to configure a water trap.

Hood scoops no help whats so ever. May be if we had the engines facing side ways. probly yeah. But i would go with the TRD hood, even thou it might not look very nice on our tC. But it's worth givin a try.

My vote is always for OEM.

IMO, vents are nine times out of ten useless, and would only be beneficial if you were rockin the short ram intakes. Engine cooling? Yeah, I guess it would help that somewhat, but unless your out there keeping it close the the red, useless. OEM will give you a nice clean look.

I think that any of the ideas are as good as any other as long as its done with class. Instead of throwing it with idea of marketing to ricers, lets see something thats tacktfully and tastefully done that will appeal to a crowd desiring functionality while adding a little asthetics. Functoinality is #1 on my list, followed by looks.

yah the evo hood is sick but alot of people have them well around my area they do on civic and stuff so i would deff want something different to....the hood you want would only be good if you had a short ram intake right because cold air goes throughg the fender wells and infront of the tires you know what i mean..but a hood for the intercooler for a supercharger would be awesome...becaus esome intercooler for superchargers are on the top of the enginge block like mini coopers and mustangs....

How about this. First look at the tc. It is a smooth and slick car all around. Nothing sticking out like those door guards found on other cars...just a clean look. Why not keep it looking naturally smooth looking with a functional hood scoop. And another important factor to add on... a new design (with the functional hood scoop and clean/snooth/flush look) so that it can be first and only be seen on the tc... not some copycat off another car.

Wow, this thread is a relic.

Everybody wants a scoop "right above the intake." Jesus. If you did it that way, the scoop would be on the side of the car, because the intake is in the fender.

I think what you're looking for is this:
