View Full Version : Rear Wiper Hole
badtouch 02-09-2005, 09:24 PM When removing the rear wiper completely what have you used to plug the hole? i thought i saw carbon fiber plugs a while back but i cant seem to find them now. if anything i could try home depot/lowes. just wondering what you have found to work best and look the cleanest.
B2FiNiTY 02-10-2005, 03:14 AM There has to be a solution other than home depot ugly plugs.
Without the rear wiper, the car looks so much better!
flowmini98 02-10-2005, 04:04 AM some auto body supply stores sell these colored plugs that are used ot plug anttena(sp) holes those should work they come in many different sizes and diameters.
bB2NER 02-10-2005, 05:22 AM Do what I did. Take the rubber that is in the hole already. Push most of the nipple back inside the hole. Take one of those chrome metal valve stems and insert it in the hole. Make a nut out of a plastic washer to hold it in the grommet. It looks like a rearveiw camera and is completely water tight. If you don't like the chrome, paint it first whatever color you want before you put it together.

dollar5 02-10-2005, 05:50 AM i like my rear wiper... i dont think i could part with it just to gain looks... even though it misses a big patch every time and i find myself trying to time the washer fluid to try and hit the right spot on the wiper blade.... is this a common mod? i have never really noticed it on any modded cars.... hmm maybe i can part with it when it gets warmer... i wouldnt be able to see out the rear with out it during the winter seasons here in jersey...
bB2NER 02-10-2005, 05:57 AM IMO if your window is that dirty I'd just carry some papertowels and windex during the winter. I hate the fact that the wiper scratches the window and I didn't appreciate having to pay for something as useless as a rear wiper then have to figure a way of making it disappear. They should have made it a port installed option and make the people that wanted it pay for it.
mattxb 02-10-2005, 02:30 PM dumb question....
rain-x on tints......specifically the back window. Should I not be doing this.
I have done it twice so far and works like a charm, but not sure if it will harm a tinted window. I know, I know, probably the dumbest question of the day.
Lonely_Raven 02-10-2005, 02:35 PM Rain-X goes on the outside, tint is on the inside. Just keep
doing what your doing, just try and keep it off the paint!
I *love* Rain-X so much, I'd hit them up for a sponsor if
I'd ever do shows.
dgHotLava 02-10-2005, 02:43 PM moved...
J_A_Trevino 02-10-2005, 04:03 PM i had scion fist where my wiper was but it got jacked so im looking for something to replace it with as well
patchout 02-11-2005, 01:50 AM Lowe's has 1" Metal Hole Plugs. They are very inexpensive, comes in a chrome color. Hillman Brand is what purchased for mine.
Max2k 02-11-2005, 01:55 AM Word is that a nickel fits in that hole nicely.
Max2k 02-11-2005, 01:56 AM Someone in japan actually put a faucet in there.

If you had your windows tinted they used a film which I would not use Rain-X on if you are talking about the factory tint it is smoked glass so Rain-X whatever you want.
Lonely_Raven 02-11-2005, 02:16 AM Again, Tint is done on the INSIDE, so Rain-X is cool
because it's done on the OUTSIDE.
If you got your windows tinted and they put it on the
outside, I'd be worried about that shop! LOL
ThunderGod 02-11-2005, 02:32 AM you can use these end cap plugs in stainless or black plugs in plastic. any hardware store, around a buck.

LOL... I've seen it done (by novices) ....
Anyhow-- he's right.. TINT on the inside, Rain-X on the OUTSIDE. Did ya read the directions? It says right on the Rain-x bottle to use it on the OUTSIDE.
And it's TINT, not TINTS. (also along the same lines... it's a film, not 'dem tint papers'). Yeah... it's minor, insignificant and unimportant - but if you heard the 1/2 million irritating misstatements a day - it'd grate on your nerves too.
Max2k 02-11-2005, 03:21 AM The rear windows have privacy glass, not tint.
windowtint 02-11-2005, 03:36 AM .... and yes, there is a difference between the two. A huge difference. (before any asks....)
TheScionicMan 02-11-2005, 04:07 AM I've got a T-Rex tail on mine. I got tired of waxing around the useless wiper arm and avoiding the dribbler on the top.

SamOnFire 02-11-2005, 12:50 PM Somebody I saw had a bB badge over it, and it covered it well, but then instead of looking dumb because there's a giant hole, he looked dumb for having a curiously non-centered badge.
P.S. BOX XOB, cool plate
SXb04 02-13-2005, 02:47 PM Does anyone know were to purchase the jdm hole plugs?
BoomBox757 02-13-2005, 07:26 PM Someone in japan actually put a faucet in there.
you could put a beer tap there and a pony keg inside
Max2k 02-13-2005, 08:10 PM Does anyone know were to purchase the jdm hole plugs?Just get one from the hardware store and throw some touch up paint on it. There's no reason to spend $50 on a plug from japan.
B2FiNiTY 02-13-2005, 09:48 PM Anyone have instructions on how to remove it?
Huskersnow 02-18-2005, 11:13 PM remove the wiper arm, then open the hatch remove the carpeted panel inside you will see the wiper motor remove the plug that is connected to it and then remove the three bolts that attach the motor to the hatch assembly and you are done. Then put the panel back on.
Scion05BOPxB 02-20-2005, 03:51 AM Someone in japan actually put a faucet in there.
Keg tap? <eg>
I've seen them removed and the hole filled, welded and repainted. That's a ways down my list of things to do... probably when I get custom lights done and have to get that painted as well.
Just have to clean the windows by hand until then. My wife's van has a rear wiper, and while it's handy, I hate the way it looks on there.
clear_bra_guy 02-22-2005, 01:26 AM we have put a color keyhole camera in there and connected it to our monitors.!!!
hotbox05 02-22-2005, 02:17 AM ONE day , one day , or maybe not but I sure can wish and hope and dream , I;m not into ice so if I ever remove it I'll prolly just get a colormatched cap .
StevisXb 02-23-2005, 11:08 AM www.randode.com sells a set of 4 bullet shaped bolts that look pretty sweet on there.
hugebox79 02-23-2005, 06:06 PM Just shave it. IT looks sweet as all hell
unlmtdndeavor 02-24-2005, 01:30 AM we are putting a keyhole camera in there and connectiing it to our visor monitor
i did that too. other than shaving it, its the cleanest and most functional. well...the beer tap would be cool too. we could have a moving kegerator
NJthunder5spd 02-24-2005, 02:45 AM i just got a lil black plastic plug from my local hardware store n tossed some touchup paint on it.

David_Seale 02-27-2006, 10:46 PM i contacted scion and asked for two fists. they delivered! i just acted all giggidy about my xb and they were glad to help me or whatever they said.
chadfo 05-29-2006, 10:37 PM I finally removed my rear wiper and plugged it. I found a metal plug in the specialty fasteners section of a local hardware store. I painted it to match the car and here it is:

andizbox 05-30-2006, 03:53 AM how wide should i get the plugs?
sabot7726 05-30-2006, 04:38 AM I'm new to all this stuff, what do you guys mean by "shave it" ?
chadfo 05-30-2006, 10:37 AM I used a 1 inch plug. It was a little loose so it might be possible to go up a size depending on what's available. The adhesive sealant I used too care of the extra movement.
Shaving is basically just making something smooth. This would not technically be shaving because the hatch isn't completely smooth. To really "shave" it I would have to fill the hole, make it smooth and flush with the rest of the panel and repaint so you can't tell anything was there.
surfcitylocal 05-30-2006, 03:26 PM I used the plugs found in the "Help" section of Pep Boys. The 1 inch chrome fits the best.

http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e219/surfcityxb/wiper2.jpg
I used paint that I got from www.paintscratch.com to color it then clear coated it. I bent the tabs back to make it more snug then used a bunch of sealant to seal up the rest of the hole. Since I can't afford the cost of shaving and painting it right now this seemed like a decent alternative.

chadfo 06-02-2006, 12:55 AM Looks good surfcitylocal. It's the best way to go on a low budget and little time.
You gotta love the lock.

sabot7726 06-02-2006, 05:50 AM So do all of you who removed the wiper live in rainless areas? I want to do it but I live in seattle :/
Do you just rain-x the crap out of it?
chadfo 06-02-2006, 10:22 AM Rain on the rear doesn't bother me. I attempted to use the rear wiper one time because the rear window was fogged. The path that it cleaned didn't help while driving. It might have for backing up.
JDMJim 06-02-2006, 02:17 PM rear wiper has too little tension on too vertical of a window. Gone for me too. Besides, I was gonna get rid of it when I bought the car anyway. so I got the South Yokohama part and that did the trick.
sabot7726 06-04-2006, 01:43 AM Do the "clip-it-onto-your-rear-view-mirror" type of rear view cameras work well? I imagine you just hide the wiring into the headboard?

El_Jorge 06-04-2006, 08:52 PM How about a bottle opener.
cjastacio 06-04-2006, 09:08 PM Bottle opener might be cool for shows and a great idea! Problem is that people might actually use it and scratch the heck out of the hatch.
Here's an idea........Has anyone taken out the wiper and used the power source to power anything? That would be pretty good to use for something, not sure what, since the switch is right on the steering wheel. Any ideas?? Maybe and LED scanner like I have seen on some Tc around on this forum!

HA!!
The "scam-era" is my newest mod.
Funny you mentioned that. Yesterday I has hanging with my bro and he had this old door in the garage. Right next to it was one of those "peepholes" you install in your front door. I thought, "Hey, this looks like a camera lens".
I think you know where Im going with this.
So after trying 4 different grommets, I found the one I like best as it gives a nice flush mount. So after removing the wiper motor, I figured why waste that nice OEM electrical connection. I put a single led into my scam-era lens and wired it to the harness (with the clip pointed towards the sky, the left hand connection is "+", the right hand "-".
It might come in handy if someone is tailgatting me, as the lens seem to increase the intensity of the light. It is damn bright for a single LED. If that doesnt get them off my ___, I can reverse my rear window wash nozzle and "pee" on them as well! :silly:

andizbox 06-05-2006, 11:49 PM i was nt trying to be a dork.it was a comment.but if you got that offended.well.im sorry.im sorry that you must notice the same thing .there for you got offended so easily.nice pitts by the way.i got nothing to hate about bro.i think your box is bad a-s-s. the only reason i have a box is because i thought it looked different from any thing else out there.for someone so old you sure act like a stupid little kid.nuff said. :blah:
Bigbear 06-13-2007, 05:07 PM Someone in japan actually put a faucet in there.

Wow, This is actually an awesome idea! Being a homebrewer, I Might look into this.
Bigbear 06-13-2007, 05:11 PM btw how big is the wiper hole? I think I'm going to start fabbing that up.
NO_BOX_NO 06-26-2007, 04:06 PM A buddy gave me a camera he never used and I had to dremmel the hole out about an eighth of an inch, but the camera went right in. I think it looks pretty good to. Only took about a half an hour yesterday. I just took some pics with my phone.
