I've only had my box for a couple weeks, but just started to notice an increasing amount of noise the last couple days as the weather has been very wet (rain/snow).

Is this a problem that everyone has, or is there a poor seal on my read door?

what type of noise exactly are you hearing? Like noise from your tires or like when your driving & you hear like rear hatch clanking.

I think it's the rear wheel wells from my expierence. The rain being thrown onto them makes a loud road noise sound. very loud. I'm going to put some sound insulation on the inside of the whole hatch area as soon as I hit the lotto.

I get the same thing!!! I thought I was the only one. When it rains, the interior of my car sounds like a wind tunnel. At first I thought it might be water splashing on the wheel wells, but realize it sounds more like air is leaking in from the hatch somewhere. Ive been meaning to take it to the dealer, but havent had time on a rainy day to make it in before the service techs leave.

The sound is so annoying that it makes me not like my new car as much as I should.

I got the same thing but i always thought i would hear the noise ever louder than normal because i took out everything from the rear trunk area down to the bear metal, but when i put everything back in w/ amp & sub i kinda started to hear it again only on rainy days though. So i guess we're all on the same page here

this is exactly it! I've stopped a few times here and there to make sure the hatch is closed tight. Then closed tighter. Then slammed shut.... Sorry for your earaches, but I'm glad I'm not the only one. And by the way, I was starting to think it sounded like it was coming more from the wheel wells last night...

I might take it in just to see what they say/recommend, but knowing me, that might never happen. If ANY OF YOU ASK THE DEALER WHAT/WHY, PLEASE POST!

Ive posted a thread on the tC forum before, but no one seems to have shared my problem, so it was frustrating. Glad to hear you guys have the same issue too, even though you have an xB. Misery loves company.

If you only hear it when it's wet out, then it's probably the rain hitting the fender well. I hear it on my car. I just haven't disassembled the rear to put sound dampening back there.

You are probably right, however i occasional hear that air hissing sound when it is humid and getting ready to rain, but not actually rain yet. And if it were a simple case of rain hitting the wheel wells, then why havent I heard this particular sound on any other cars?

This sound isnt a low background noise either. It is very loud, very annoying sound. The radio doesnt even cover it up. I studied aerospace engineering, and I use to work with wind tunnels. Thats what my car sounds like in the rain.

Now I just need to find some time to bring it into the dam dealer. Ill keep you guys posted if i find out what the problems is. Please do that same as well.

the reason you do not hear it in other cars is because either A) the inner fenders are back in the trunk seperated from the passenger cabin, or B) they did not cut corners to keep cost down as much and used some sound deadening on the inner fenders. If you get some carpet padding and put it over the wheel humps in the back it will be about the cheapest way to reduce that sound. You can use sound deadining marketed to audio enthusiasts if you want something that will do a better job. Brown Bread, Ramaat, edead, dynamat are just a few names of what is available. There is a good post in the ICE area to give you a run down of the products available.



Personally I plan on 5 gallons of Spray on eDead to line the whole car with a couple layers to give the interior that dead quiet lexus sound. It'll run about $250 for the stuff and the sprayer to apply it.

must be the rain and snow ..i get i also.. or when its super windy and im in the highway

I've never heard anything out of the ordinary. I do have a few layers of fatmat on my xb so that's probably why.

I noticed this issue on my xB just last week.... I thought I had left the trunk hatch open.
