I heard that Royal Purple was great tranie fluid...Getting a new cluch installed and wanted some input...

I need some recomendations for a clutch kit. I looked on ebay and found these two that others have recommended on clubsciontc.com but what do you guys think of these two. The 2nd one is a TRD stage 1 for $139.00 from clutchmasters, The other is exedy $OEM clutch for 118.00

The shop said it would be approximately $1020.00 for a Luk OEM clutch kit and the flush of the tranie with the Royal purple tranie fluid...Seems a bit high since the Laybor is only $520.00 ?????

I dont really need anything to special. I drive 45 minutes on the highway with no traffic to work 6 days a week.

the exedy is nice, its OEM quality but grabs a bit harder, as for fluid redline MT-90 in my opinion

buy the clutch and fluid yourself, draining and refilling the tranny should be included in the shops install price. ask them what it will be if you bring in your own fluid and clutch. If you get the parts it shouldnt be more than 350-400

i've heard the royal purple trannie fluid is kinda bleh, nothing like the engine oil. MT-90 from redline is probably the most recommended on here though. If you are just using your car for a DD and not going to be adding a ton of horsepower i wouldn't really go with anything other than OEM clutch kit, but with the MT-90 alone you will notice a difference

redline is definatly NOT recommended, its ____ after 700-1000 miles it starts to jam up on u.

i went with eneos and its been a year and i have no complaints at all, one more flush and another eneos adding and the rest of that redline thats in there will be gone, and for a OEM style clutch id go with Exedy OE.

thats not true, its been in mine and shifts golden after 10000 miles and ruf hard drag strip shifting.

If you use MTL in our cars it will lock up fast but mt-90 is great IMHO

yeah i've heard nothing but good things about MT-90. i ran it on my stock clutch for a few thousand miles and it was great and now i'm on a clutch that will hold 400hp and it's still good.

idk if it was a fluke. but on the "how to" thread on SL there's so many complaints about it after I complained. I have no clue.

I love my eneos though

x2. I have been DD'ing and done one track weekend with the MT-90 and I haven't had any problems.

Good luck on the install.

I talked to one of the techs at toyota and they say they recommend 2.6 quarts of 75w90 tranny fluid. I am probably gonna run Royal Purple 75w90 personally.

I have 30,000 + miles of nothing but total abuse using Royal Purple 75w90. I'm going to be flushing it with some new Royal Purple over the holidays.

still use 75w90. it's what the trans calls for.

RP is fairly good although theres still some question as to whether its chemical makeup is really safe for our transmissions synchros. Redline has always failed me in every toyota transaxle ive ever used it in (E153, E351, E350), personally the best ive found is what i have in there now. AMSOIL Manual Transmission & Transaxle Gear Lube 75W-90. Its GL4, and majorly synthetic. Never ground a gear since I put it in, and the difference between it and the Toyota fluid is night and day. Slightly higher price is worth it IMHO.

Just a note, we need the manual transaxle lube I specified in the post above, DO NOT get the synchromesh manual transmission fluid, they are worlds apart!

Ive always been a royal purple guy and i especially love their motor oils but i will never use their 75w90 gear oil in my tranny ever again. My tranny used to be dead silent until i thought i was doing it a favor by replacing the factory fluid with the royal purp Synthetic gear oil. After a while my transmission started getting loud and whiney. Shifting became clunky and then one day over the summer it refused to let my shift into second gear with out hearing a blood currdling, god awful grinding noise everytime. Luckily toyota warrantied my tranny and i got a brand new one but i must tell u to stay away from royal purple synthetic max gear 75w90 gear oil. It will ____ in ur mouth.

Now im scared to ever switch my trans oil again. Might just stay with toyotas factory juice.

What does toyota use? Eonos?

Ive heard they use/used Eneos but I have never found research that confirms that for sure. Some people are hit or miss with RP, in my experience it seems to sheer slightly under lateral load (synchros) and that makes everything feel more klunky and isnt so healthy for the brass synchro rings long term. Just do amsoil, or if you really are that worried, the dealership will sell you transmission fluid, or you can do eneos. I do know they use eneos motor oil from the factory so id assume they do the same with transmission.

Interesting. Ill check into that. Thanks man.

I've doing some research here before I did some maintanance, tires, trans. fluid, spark plugs, ect.
I did read somewhere that GL-5 isn't good for our tc manual transmissions because it will deteriorate the brass but the owners manual say's it is ok to use:eyebrow:
I decided to go with Eneos, I didn't hear 1 bad thing and on there web site it states,
"ENEOS Gear Oil is recommended for use in bevel, spiral bevel and hypoid gear type differentials and in power dividers compatible with synchromesh ensures easy and smooth shifting even at very low temperatures"
AND
"Any manual transmission or differential (NON-LSD) requiring 75W-90 & GL5 viscosity"

I did have a heck of a time finding a dealer, the Eneos web site said there was one in my state but every time I called no one answered, so I tried other states, vt, me, ma. had no dealers.
I called Eneos main office in the united states they were as usefull as tits on a bull.
I found a web site that carried and delivered mtf not just the motor oil but the shipping as much as the oil not worth it.
In my google search I found the dealer in my state but the phone number was different than what the Eneos web site had, I called the dealer and ordered my oil, the gods above were rejoicing.
On a side note the Bridgstones that came stock, that cost a ridiculus amount of money, they suck.

It's been about a year now and the Eneos has made a difference in shifting(smooth and precise) cold weather has been great, down to -20 a couple days this winter
