Hey. I was just wondering about a little math I did. On the ScionSpeed site it says their Stage3 turbo kit would be capable of 300% power increase if you got forged internals and some other parts extra. I think I did my math right but the numbers seem too good to be true so I thought I'd check.

Does the 300% increase come out to about 640hp? I just did 160*3=480+160=640. The part I'm not sure about is adding the 160 at the end. But then if you don't add the 160 then their stage1 kit (increase of 85% max) would leave you with 136hp. A whole 24hp lower than stock, and that can't be right.

If I'm doing this right then the stage2 fully upgraded would put out around 480hp (around 408whp) which is enough bang for my buck. Though that 640 would be a nice number to round up to. :pray:

I just read the site and it has the numbers a lot different. They say the stage 3 kit give 125 to 165%. The numbers in this range sound reasonable. Hell you could realisticly turbo any engine really really high, but sooner or later the thing will burn up, either from the engine breaking or getting to hot. 165% increase is definetly possible, given you have increased the strength of the components they recommend... I would go further and have all forged internals, ideally light weight matched pistons. Most likely though, the stage 3 kit will kill the engines life span. Turbo charging an engine makes it hot for many reasons, the input air is very hot (compression does that, though an intercooler will make up for it considerably). BUT an engine that was designed to dissipate the energy that is produced at 165 hp is going to get warm doing the same at 370 hp. Very few parts on the engine will be stock at this point, the whole fuel rail would be new, the internals, the management system. And honestly, the transmission isnt designed to take that kind of force most parts have, lets say a factor of safety of 2, so if the car puts out 160 nomally,and should last 120000 miles, then the engineers design it ot handle 320 and 240000. those last number are ideal, meaning that the safety is built in becuase a good number of trannies leave the factory not perfect, but since they are over built will still last 120000 at 160 hp. You jam it up to 370, and start really getting on it, and it may not last 50000 miles. And why spend put 15000 into a 15000 dollar car, yeah is cool but its still gonna feel like 15000 dollar car.

Those numbers are correct. Although there are a great deal of supporting mods needed to make it to that level, the Stage III system is capable of 640 flywheel HP on race fuel. Stage III is sold as a tuner system. This car has the turbo that is included in the Stage III system.......http://www.sdsefi.com/features/mar03celica.htm, and as you can see that turbo is no baby!

ahurdl01: Look at the bottom of the price listings, under the Stage3 specs. It says that with certain extra upgrades that the stage2 can provide up to a 200% increase and 300% for the stage3.

Ok, that's good news then. If that's the case then I won't need to go to Stage3. I'll just get the stage2 and get it up to the 200% increase. 480 to the crank isn't bad at all. Besides, I wouldn't want to be able to beat a Viper. Then I'd have nothing to shoot for :pray: . Plus that thing IS huge! Looks like it's almost the size of the Celica's whole engine! :rofl: It must take forever to spool up.

I'm not gonna buy the kit all at once though. I'm gonna do it piece by piece, for the most part. That way more parts will be available over time and also when I finaly realize that all this car modding thing is stupid and a waste of money, I'm not $10,000 in the hole. :lalala:

In order to get Stage III numbers one would think you'd also need halfshafts, crankshaft, flywheel, 6-speed tranny, hi-perf clutch, pistons, rods, valves, cams, hi-flow oil pump, hi-flow fuel pump and the list keeps going. Then you run into balance issues with the lighter weight internals blah, blah, blah. You could easily blow $30K+ in mods to get it to the 640hp range, just buy an Evo 8 and get it over with. Besides anyone know where to get a lot of these parts?

Yep. I did took in the 15% loss also. It's 544whp if it's exactly 15%. And the Stage2 after upgrades is 408whp if theres exactly 15% loss. That'll be a good 50hp on my friends GTI after his stage3. :silly: . Though he's "bawlin" right now so he'll probably get his car up to 350whp before I even get past 250hp. :tap: ..... I'm sure he'll let me drive it though ^_^.

As for everyone saying that I'd need some big engine mods to handle the power.... I know. Some of the parts needed will be upgraded with the kit. And the rest will be taken care of by me.

Those extra upgrades are forged internals, block guard, fuel system upgrade (to stage 3 spec), and inline fuel pump. That's according to ScionSpeed.

Did anyone read the article in ModifiedMag about the Jotech tC? :shock: Holy crap did they do alot to that engine! Bored 1.5mm over and sleeved to up it to 2.5L, new rods, port and polish, stainless valves and they used the stock cam! That engine has had some stuff done. 600hp at the crank, amazing. Here's to all those people that said "It's a family car engine, what do you expect?" :come:

Yeah, Jotech's work is very nice. Hopefuly I can get my dad's friend, who works on engines as a hobby (he's got a 700-900hp hemi engine from back in the day :bow:), to do some free/cheap engine work for me. :pray:

they did a lot, including new VALVE TRAIN, new crank, new camsm new pistons, new rods, new ECU, new BLOCK, new sleeves, and pushing over 30 psi to achieve over 600hp to the WHEELS

how hard woud it be to drive that car daily
