Well I was over at my buddies apt working on installing a rear sway bar in his GTi when we decided to have a beer after dirlling holes in the twist beam - it was a pain in the $%^. We did some surfing and he ended up getting some blue HID esque looking covers for his lights. I ordered a set in yellow and we combined shipping. Yes I have a cheap streak!!!
Anyway, they shoud be here next week sometime!
Here is the link - i did the search for the really lazy!!! (http://search.stores.ebay.com/search/search.dll?GetResult&fci=-1&fcl=3&from=R10&fsn=Discount+Clear+Bra%27s&fts=2&sadpt=6&sasel=103679607&satitle=scion&sofp=0)
One of the guys at school has the blue ones on his white box and it looks HOT.
Just thought I would share!

Were you installing a "Shine" RSB in the GTi?
I replaced my stock tC bulbs w/ yellow bulbs...they're pretty cool and still provide good visibility...and legal too. I've been too lazy to take pics...maybe tonight.

Yep, we did the shine rear bar. We had done the shocks/struts earlier. The transformation is amazing!
We got the light covers in. They were not too bad to put on. Trimmed a bit off on one edge and they look great!

Yeah, I had the SRS kit w/ RSB on my 96 Jetta...The transformation is awesome to say the least. I really miss that set-up.
It's not a set-up for those who are concerned w/ looking cool...but if you want to run circles around others that's just the right set-up.
Happy motoring.

so are all of these things actually legal? i mean i cant imagine the cops wouldn't pull you over if you blacked out your taillights or something...

I called the NY State Police before I put the yellow bulbs in...they said it was OK.
I've had them in now for over a month w/ no troubles.

As far as legality you would have to check with your state - each one is different. I know some states say the headlights have to shine 'white'. That means most of the cheesy bulbs at pep boys are technically illegal... The blue covers were interesting, they shine through WHITE - not sure how that works but it does... They look better than just doing replacement bulbs, and look HOT during the day! I know a guy who has had them on his pickup for about a year without any trouble, even got it inspected that way. In any case, they were pretty cheap! Cheaper than re-doing my tint by a mile - it is under the legal limit by 2-5% depending on the meter, but most just pass it as it is sooo close (it was sold to me as the limit - guess they didn't factor the glass its self) As for the tails neither of us did them. A friend has it done on his GLi and they are surprisingly bright at night. Just looks dark because it is going over a red light.
But as they say, check the rules, so you know when you are breaking them :) Seriously, if you don't drive like a nut job you have a much lower chance of getting pulled over...
PS. how many people roll without a front plate - but are required to have one....

lets see some pics of those covers!
And I roll without a front plate, and only got 1 parking ticket for it in the city (chicago). Cops look at it all the time, they either dont say anything or they ask why I dont ahve one.

I guess not driving like an idiot is the key when it comes to getting pulled over - a friend of mine drove around without a liscense numerous times when he was 15.

in good old Rhode Island not having a front plate will get you pulled over in 10 minutes...
