I called DMV today to check that the order went through - something I always do after online orders and they said "no". I asked why not and she asked what my requested plate was. I said SIGH ON and she checked and said it was avaliable. I asked again why the order didnt go through and she put me on hold and said that although that plate is "available", it is "too similar to an existing plate". What the heck does THAT mean? Either it's available or not. Either the plate is taken or it's not. How can a plate be "similar"? If SIGH ON is not taken, what makes another plate so similar that I camt get that? (I understand that spaces dont count.)

Grrrrr.

it says on the site that the number 69 is reseved for 1969 model cars only. my friend had a 69 fiat spider, and they wouldn't let him get robs 69 on his plate even though it wasn't taken. can you believe that? anyway, if you try to use a number in place of a letter, you have to be sneaky about it. they don't allow it normally. if you tell them it's your amateur radio code or something it might work, but saying it means scion, they'll most likely reject it.

They're pretty savvy about amateur radio calls, as that is a separate category of plate. To get an amateur radio plate you need to show them your amateur radio license and pay a replacement plate fee. The nice thing is that there is no yearly fee on amateur plates.

I'm waiting to get my title so I can apply for my plates.
My first 2 choices are plates that I had in the past, but I don't know if the new owners of the cars are still using them.

I am hoping to get BLAKOUT. I had those on a '95 Camaro. My xB is done up the same way the Camaro was...dark tint, black wheels, black paint.
My #2 pick is IW84NO1 (I wait for no one). I had that on a '98 Camaro. I took them off when I moved to Florida.

Other possibilities are

I just placed my order for "IMBXDIN." I see no reason why it wouldnt be approved, so I just have to wait for 8 to 12 weeks for them to come in.

Can anyone from CA let me know how long it took to get your plates?

I haven't seen if my buddy has posted his in this thread or not yet, but his plates are "GOT BOX". It makes me laugh.

My last xB was debadged and Dodge Ram emblems were put on, Front, sides and back. My plates read 'RAM XB'. Got a lot of questions with that one.

It sucks Missouri has a 6 character limit.
Really limits my choices.

QUESTION: I just ordered my personal plates, but I also ordered my registration for the coming year a couple of months ago and have not yet put the sticker on, however the registration card has my soon to be old license plate on it, do I have to re-register my car ($140) or will the registration for my current plates still work?

BTW I kept it simple and got: "NORCAXB" Nor Ca xB

^^ not sure about in cali, but here in PA, all you have to do is go to the DMV or get in touch with the DOT and a new sticker is only a buck fifty.

^^ forgot to mention also, here in PA you don't actually register your car, You are registering your plates, and that is why you put the sticker there. But things may be different there, for instance it only caost 36 bucks here, and you said it cost you 140

My plate is on order and I should get it in the next month or so.

Mine is BLACK BB.. Wanted BLK BOX but was taken and tried every variation of it I could think of but they were all taken so that is what I came up with.. I did see a VW one night with MNMMNNMN or something along those lines... I could only imagine cops trying to run those plates...
