Default JDM taillight trouble

Hello. I'm fairly new to this forum and I have a bit of a problem.

I was trying to install my new JDM taillights the other day. everything went well until I came up to a snag. I took out the light bulb holders from my stock taillights and placed them into the new JDM set, but it seems like the light bulb holders won't "twist and click" into the housing as they did in my stock taillights. I noticed that if the holders won't lock on to the housing, then they wouldn't make contact with the copper strip that conducts electricity throughout the taillight. I even tried electrical tape to hold them in place, but to no avail.

Does anyone have an idea for locking the holders in place? Please help me. I'm stumped! I tried a search, but couldn't find any answers.

hrmm i ran into a similar problem with the TYCS ... those particular taillights come with their own wiring harness.. so if you have a tyc variant taillight .. that could be the problem

bad news is you cant get that part seperately ..

I too just had the same problem. Took a while to figure out why my tails won't work. Comes to find out the center socket was not twisted into the socket correctly. Just keep working it.

Are you sure you're putting each plug in the right socket? I can't remember for sure but I think the brake light on the factory tails is in the middle and not the top like the tails you bought.

You've really got to use some force to make sure that the plugs get a full insertion and turn until they snap into place. I have installed about 4 other sets of talilights on xB's and they have all had varying amounts of force required. If all else fails, I would recommend a little spot of electrical anti-seize lube on the socket to make it a smoother path.

i know dude. to be honest, i really don't think that these taillights are an authentic JDM product. that was just the description used by scionsport.com. if these taillights were truly "japanese domestic market" pieces, wouldn't there be something on the them stating that?

well folks, thanks for your help!

I just used a good plier to twist it to lock, it was a tight fit, but it has been on for
almost a year w/no problems.

I had the same problem with a different set of JDM taillights ... The problem in my case was that the bulb fit wasn't tight enough. I ended up building up the rim of the socket with some electrical tape to tighten things up until everything twisted and clicked into place. That was more than a year ago and no problems since.

Those are not REAL JDM'S, those are jdm knockoffs. Real JDM's are like double the price and the factory sockets go right in like the oem ones.

The bulbs and sockets should be pluged in prior to installation. After all the sockets are in the housing then install the housing and plug in the harness
