I wasnt quite sure which section to post this, so i appologize in advance if its in the wrong section.

Ok i currently own a 2008 Scion XD. with Remote Keyless Entry system installed as part of the package.

Well one thing that i was very happy with was that the RKE would automatically lock my door and arm the alarm after 30 seconds of exiting the vehicle, if i happend to forget to do it using remote buttons found on my keys.

Well recently i noticed that the car doors doesnt lock and the alarm doesnt arm itself after 30 seconds. The only way i can do so is to do it manually using the buttons on my key.

I called my dealer and he argued that the car never had the ability to lock itself automatically or for the alarm to arm itself. (He claimed no such thing exists)I sincerly doubt him since i did have this functionality in the past. He kept insisting that i bring it in. Honeslty i think hes feining ignorance just so he can charge me to just look at a most likely simple problem.

Anyhow, i assume that i must have somehow disable this feature. I looked at my manual and it mentioned something about Passive Arming/Entry Delay..I assume that this is what is the issue thats causing it.

Can anyone please:
1) confirm that yes the car does lock and arm itself after 30 seconds after the doors
2) Explain what Passive arming does..Does passive arming, automatically turn on the alarm and lock the doors or does it just turn on the alarm after a set time?

I have a 2008 and mine never did it automatically. Do you have an aftermarket setup?

Well, our xD's have keyless entry as a standard component. If you should push unlock on the key fob, and not enter the vehicle, the vehicle's passive system will lock the doors after 30 seconds.

If you got charged for keyless entry as a "package" i would turn in that dealer for fraud. It comes standard on ANY scion.

Now if it was the scion alarm add-on, then that's a different story.

but as far as RKE goes, that's standard.

The alarm would not be a standard thing. So unless you specifically had it added on, you don't have one.

Like mentioned - the automatic relock ONLY happens under 2 conditions. BOTH conditions have to be met:

1. Unlock driver's or all doors via the key fob.
2. Do not open any doors for 30 seconds (does NOT include the hatch/trunk).

If both of those conditions are met, it will relock after those 30 seconds. My tC does the exact same thing. And I'm stating this based on experience with my g/f's 09 xD.

I had an aftermarket alarm on my old 2001 Pontiac Sunfire that did this. I think it was a Carbine alarm? Memory is a bit fuzzy so I'm not sure. Our xD's do not do this as stated above.

I'm pondering finding out about adding this to my aftermarket remote start/alarm system currently on my xD tho as it was a handy, if occasionally frustrating feature!

Sefi, my xd locks after 30 seconds of hitting unlock on the key fob if i don't open a door. it's standard.

I know. I've unlocked it from the house only to have it relock itself before I could get out to it to get something out.

What my Sunfire had worked like this:
1. Unlock car.
2. Either get in and drive or get something out of the car. Finish and turn the engine off.
3. Close all doors.
4. Car beeps once as warning it's going to arm.
5. Car beeps 30 sec later to tell you it's armed.

All without touching a button. The alarm was self arming, triggered by closing all doors when the motor wasn't running.
