Default Scion tC Long Term Report 20,000 Miles

No, it's not a car review from Edmunds or C&D.

Got my car back in June/July. Third car off the Longo Toyota/Scion (great Scion sales people) lot. Got TRD springs about a month later at Scion of Glendora (really nice service).

I have a long commute and it's 80% highway. At 100 miles a day, 20,000 miles went by really fast. Average fuel consumption? 29mpg. I've had no major problems with the car. The rattles have mostly fixed themselves except on rough roads. The head unit cover squeaks, but I shoved paper on the side and that fixed it. The roof creaks at times when makeing a turn over a speedbump but otherwise noiseless. Oh, I had one nail in my tire and Longo fixed that during an oil change service. I've had 4 oil changes so far. My headliner did not bubble up or tear, my paint is scratched in the front from rocks but fine for the rest of the car. The powertrain has held up fine and the electronics worked as advertised.

For comfort, the front seats on my old Civic (2001) fits me better and has firmer back support. Yeah, the Civic has skinny seats but then again, I don't have a fat ___. A telescoping steering column would be nice too but that's just my wishlist. Many people who've sat in the tC commented about the abundant amount of room in the front and legroom in the back. They did complain about the low ceiling in the back though.

For performance, the tC has been more than adequate in passing power and high speed cornering (freeway interchanges). Maybe I didn't push the car hard enough but there's very little understeer. No, I don't race. There are plenty of idiots on the road for me to dodge already. The supercharger option is tempting, but do I really need more power? At a pretty steep price too...

That's it. My odo reads 20,658, which is way too much driving. I should move closer to work...

Thanks for the long term report. Nice to know that the car is just as reliable as other Toyotas.

Thanks for report. Sounds like you have the "minor" problems like the rest of us. Nothing out of the ordinary and can't live with.

The only time Ive seen the rear headroom be a real problem is taller people with the seats fully upright. Recline them a bit and it seems to work better. Plus everyone is in awe that the rear seats can recline, lol.

Not quite. I'm 5'8" and my head can bang into the ceiling even with the rear reclined if I hit some rough roads.

On a tangent, I put the Scion booths tC seat into the "lounge" configuration at the auto show. That confused and scared off a couple people

It does get some looks when I do a walk-around for a younger customer where a parent is present.

Nice report... but question regarding what you said ^ I tried the lounge configuration but my front seat (top ends) Dont fit nicely in with the rear seat cusions... and, yes I removed the headrests and moved both seats all the way forward... do I just jab them in there?

You must have the highest-mileage tC on this entire board!

I've had ppl complain about back headroom as well, but that's the only complaint I've gotten from other ppl.

i just recently hit 17,000 and not all problems are fixed on my car. Like you i drive 100miles a day for work and recently ive started to get alot of noise from the glove box door if there is a way to tighten the fit of the door that would help alot cause if i hold the door while driving theres no noise but as soon as i let go i get all kinds of loud noise. also somethigs going on in the back of the car once again and my passenger side door is very noisy. all and all love the car wish i could get like 45 mpgHEHEHE but im averaging like 350 to a full tank of gas. got about 3 rock chips in the windshield as well as chips on the bumper and hood. This is all expected with driving close to 600 miles a week all highway. as for roomyness of the car i love it i can hold 5 people with NO problems ive even been drivin around by a friend while i sit in the back just to get a feel for it. very roomy rear but the seats could be a bit softer cushoning.

For the glovebox, I had the same problem, it was the Lock on there... I just lock and unlock it once or twice, and it stops

Dunno, I just push them all the way forward, then push in all the way down. So yeah, I guess you just jab it in there.

Tell me how it feels when you get it to 100k. I have friends whose dads baby their car and have had them last till over 200k. Im gonna try to ride this baby till 1m. If thats possible. I wonder if I'll be put into the guiness book of world records. But im serious about 1m. Lol. Maybe at 500k i'll toss in a supercharger.
