OK... I installed a fully custom exhaust on my box. Polished muffler, 2.25in" pipe. I Love it, sounds great. I noticed, however, that when I let my friend drive it (so I could listen to the sweet note everyone else hears) the muffler moves and shakes a lot.
I think when they pryed off the stock muffler they loosened up my rubber hangers too much. When I asked the shop, they just acted like it was normal and said all mufflers shake on rubber hangers, and there's nothing they can do. :blah:
I don't expect rock solid, but I don't want my tip to hit the bumper! :tap:
Can I buy new hangers, or even better yet, stronger ones. Does anybody know where to get them? Should the muffler shop have them?
Or do you think the shop put the hangers in the wrong spot (on the muffler) causing this?

I did see an exhaust install write-up in another thread (that I can't find) and they used aftermarket blue hangers. I think I need some of those...

the exhaust hangers are supposed to move around. In fact after every install that I do I move the tip around to see if its gonna hit the bumper. In fact almost every car made has exhaust hanger that have some play in them. Its normal on our xB to move around like that. So the moving around is ok. Having a rock solid exhaust would not allow any movement and when the motor moves it would crack the exhaust brackets.
We need these. They're called Cusco Hangers. But I can't find any more info on them. Or where to get them.

super autobacs has some stiffer hangers. Its at the end of the exhaust isle. I remember seeing them. But just remember that the hangers are not going to 100% stop the moving around.

Don,
I'm no exhaust expert, but I have less than 1/8 inch clearance on the sides of my exhaust tip, and my tip DOES NOT move. If it did move, I would have had a melted rear lip by now.
Its due to the placement of new hangers, well, it needed new hangers since its a center exit exhaust.
Any competent muffler shop can set up an exhaust for it not to move. They just need to know what items are needed.
You can check out my system the next time I head down.

Thanks for all the advice. I've never heard of that store. I'm gonna check Pep-boys, and kragen and stuff...
I understand it should have some movement, but most other exhausts I've seen (including xB's) appear to not move at all while driving... Mine looks like it's shaking all over the place. Hopefully these will help.
Also, does placement of the hanger matter? Mine is right on top of the mufler, and I think it should have the hangers on the sides, to stop it from shaking. Am I crazy? If not I'm gonna make them relocate the hangers.

I thought so!!!
Thanks. I'm gonna go to a different shop. They weren't the best.

much cheaper than cusco hangers, generic polyurethane hangers:
i personally went for the "jdm drift" style fix of putting hose clamps around the existing hangers.

Thanks guys, I'll try that first! I have some of those hose clamps laying around.
If that doesn't work, back to the shop I go.

Zip ties and electrical tape will work, kinda ghetto but it works. I had Kartboy hangers for my protege and they were great.
Email them and see what they can do for you.
Also search for echo hanges, it might work. Thats just a guess though.

this is one of the reasons I'm afraid of aftermarket exhausts. . . if you notice, OEM mufflers jiggle very little. But if you notice all the Honda's around with fart cans, those things jiggle more than DD's. I've heard from many an exhaust guy that it's normal, but it differs from guy to guy and car to car, on how much jiggle there is. Most xB's I've seen have very little jiggle, but I havn't seen any xA applications (for me).

what gabe said is right, they have to move a little...but go with new hangers if it is too extreme.

Yeah, they have to move a little, but if it shakes like crazy, that's bad. . . and I've seen A LOT of cars that do that.
