Hello Everyone, just wonddering about this issue, I don't want to take my car to dealer for oil change, its not about the money but I know they will mess with my stuffs and will cost me more to fix it, so now would I void the warranty if I change the oil some where else so Ican be with my car, thanks for your input, Sean

With some exceptions, Section 102 (c) of the Magnuson Moss Act prohibits warranters from including a "tie-in sales provision" in a warranty.

In other words, a car manufacturer can void their warranty on things affected if you never change your oil or filter, but they cannot void it because the change was properly done by someone other than one of their dealers.

Use of oil or filter products other than those they specify can also void the warranty.

Best bet, to be safe, is to use the specified Toyota filter and to keep records/reciepts for all oil changes showing they were performed as reqired. They do not have to be done at a certain place or by specific persons.

If you feel competent to change your own oil and filter, keep adequate records, use the specified oil and filters, and do the changes at the proper intervals, you are fine.

Sean, Tell them you would like to watch as the oil being changed. they have started to do that at the dealership I use to work for. just on cars that have many mods etc...... its worth a try and if they want your $$$ then they will see it your way.

No, TRD parts do not void your warranty. TRD parts are built for Toyota Racing and work in conjuction with your Toyota Warranty. The warranty on the TRD parts comes two ways. If someone other than the dealer does the install, the warranty is good for 12 months or 12,000 miles, parts only. If the dealer does the install, the warranty is good for parts and 'labor' and will be covered for the remainder of your original 36 month or 36,000 mile warranty. I hope that helps.

The trick with warranties is they have to priove it was something you did or didnt do to cause a malfunction.
Bottom line get the oil changed where ever you want and keep the receipts. Better to be safe than sorry.

your fears of dealer personel are unfounded (well in some cases they are) but the majority of techs do a fine job yes some places hire monkey jack zit faced 19 year olds to change oil ive worked at many car dealers if its jiffy lube or your local dealer you may or may not exp crappy service

I don't think he was trying to impugn all 19 year olds.

And just for the record, Wal-Mart botched a simple oil/filter change on my Tacoma. They used the filter wrench to put THE NEW FILTER ON!!! Punched a hole in the side, dripped into my frame rail until I went to enter my driveway and it all gushed out...

(When I take my xB into the dealer for it's first oil and filter change, it will be the first time I've EVER not done it myself in over 40 years of owning cars...and yes, it makes me nervous.)
