I got my new '05 TCM box today......and my wife flipped out when she found out I got a manual transmission...I had to wait about 6 months to get my car, cause my lease on my old car finally finished....never test drove it till last week..and I was thinking, I don't want a slow matic.......but oh well...can't please everyone with 1 car :D

I made my wife learn how to drive a stick, Everyone should know how to. She has a spec v and it olnly comes in a 6 speed. She is really glad she made this choice.

Years ago, told my wife that I wouldn't marry her until she could drive a stick. She won't drive anything else now. She enjoys the art of downshift punch and pass. Once I taught her the heal-toe cornering tactic she became a very adept driver. I think there's nothing sexier than a woman driver that can run at a performance driver level. Whiole I was associated with a local NASCAR track, the best drivers at the lower classes were often women.

Just tell her that learning manual is easy and FUN (throw that word in there) but it takes sometime to master.

Tell her that you'll be able to help her learn to use the stick in and out of the car.

whatever you do, don't teach her how to drive on your xB, get some old junker she can wear the clutch out on first

If you're teaching her correctly, I can't imagine any
excessive wear on the clutch. Though I must admit my
last girfriend got really nervious when I was in the car and
hickuped it a few times. She hates when I can see her drive.

That was my logic! lol....'course, now that we're married she made me teach her. She's actually getting pretty good at working the stick (har har har har har, I know. Pervs).

Well I picked up a manual TCM xB yesterday. My wife would have prefered an auto, but those are for people who don't enjoy driving. At least she can drive it...

Agreed its a little clunky. The pedal sriffness i like but it gave my wife a helluva time when she was learning.
We swapped cars in her learning process and she drove my beloved protege5.

Ha ha, there are soooo many guys out there who bow down to their wives/girlfriends about the whole tranny issue. They buy an automatic even though they HATE it, just to please their significant other!

I don't really understand why so many women either refuse to learn or are scared to learn to drive a manual...

Good job sticking up for yourself :)

In england its a part off the drivers exam. I think everyone should drive a manual it requires more thought to drive.
Its like natural selection ofr cars.

My life is backwards then! My fiance (male version) prefers auto, I ended up getting the auto - partly for him so he'd stop griping about driving it when we go on long trips. I prefer stick, always drove it from day one.

I have to admit thou, when I test drove the xB in stick, I didn't like it. If I only knew about the short shifter kit I'd probably have a stick rather than auto. <sigh> alas.

You'd think they could engineer a performance clutch with a light pedal!

My wife's never driven my 5 speed, and I'd like to keep it that way.
She hasn't driven a MT in 7 years, and I'd prefer it if she weren't re-learning with my car. I'll teach her one of these days...

I enjoy the stiff pedal, a vette has a similar feel tot he clutch. Its the clunky shifter that gets me, it could definatley be smoother.

I bought a manual to discourage my wife, mother-in-law and any other person from driving my BOX

Bow down? Please -- I enjoy shifting but when it comes to the stop and go traffic
on the loop 101 I dont mind the fact that I bought my wifes xb with an auto -- she
loves this car and I think its still fun to drive. That the most important thing to me!
  no offense to anyone !!

God sakes man when are you going to something with that hair?

04 xb -- auto
02 protege 5 -- manual -- zoom zoom

  Damn i must be a wimp cause i ordered a mt then when i went to dealrship with my wife of course, she started getting mad that it was mt. so i had to get auto.

Hay the loan is under her name for "my xb" so i guess i did not have a lot to say in that argument!!

Unless i turn my auto into mt. My boyes back home in N.Y. turn auto civics and integras into mt. so it shound be possible for "my baby"

Better to have your wife grumpy for a little while than to sigh to yourself everytime you get a fun stretch of road and wish you had held out for that stick shift. You made the right choice.

You'd think they could engineer a performance clutch with a light pedal!Exactly , fun to drive but that would suck to have to drive it in a daily grind . clutch in , clutch out all day long. That would suck.
