View Full Version : Turbo Kits for Scion tC
bambams247 02-17-2005, 06:47 PM Hello. New to the bords. Looking at trading my 02 WRX for a 05 Scion tC. Wondering what turbo kits are available for the sciont c besides the one that everyone talks aobut. $3,200 and no itnercooler. OUCH! I'm looking for 250-300 hp near the end with exhaust, intake, new clutch. Whats available out there. Also daily driven!
Joe_Dezod 02-17-2005, 06:56 PM Spend a little bit more for the Stage 2 and buy the kit with the intercooler. The info is out there, just read through the first 2 pages on the power hungry forum and you'll be all set.
BlkSandPrlTurbotC 02-17-2005, 09:39 PM GReddy and Turbonetics will have turbos out in mid spring
Joe_Dezod 02-17-2005, 09:52 PM Should be an interesting year for all of us.
BlkSandPrlTurbotC 02-17-2005, 10:17 PM I'm waiting till fall/winter of 2005 anyways.
There's no rush to get one for me
xyouthx 02-17-2005, 11:35 PM black sand pearl....person. do you have reliable resources that those companies are coming out with kits??? Im looking to take out a school loan around the same time as you and turbo my baby, and am very intrigued by this info....
BlkSandPrlTurbotC 02-18-2005, 12:44 AM yeah i have reliable resources.
i've been in contact w/ GReddy and Turbonetics since
I was down at NOPI Nationals and since I was out at SEMA
Also, my friends knows a PR for both companies
so we keep in close contact
brownbanana 02-18-2005, 01:59 AM hey, thats good news to hear that they will be out within the next couple months..

BlkSandPrlTurbotC 02-18-2005, 02:46 PM I would like the tCtunerz turbo kit more if you had a
engine dress up kit that comes with it
sorta like GReddy's

Do you have links to photos of this kit you mention? I would like to see that!

To Correct you, You mean Scion Speed.. Not tCtunerZ
BlkSandPrlTurbotC 02-18-2005, 05:37 PM Eh whatever lol. reguardless, it's a better install
scion speed's turbo setup looks to bland
oldman 02-18-2005, 06:15 PM I don't see anything, not that I care too much what my turbo looks like, Greddy has a painted valvecover and a stut bar really looks like far more stainless on the ScionSpeed setup. But hey I'm buying it for performance and could care less about the polished valve cover and strut bar and or yeah fake braided radiator hoses.
oldman 02-18-2005, 06:18 PM when will either kit ship or alpaworks has a manifold and their site says kit too I think.

Any idea what this will cost?? More the the Scion Speed Turbo??
I'll have 6000 to spend on a Turbo I really wanna GREDDY but i can deal with the Scion Speed.
wOoOzZy 02-18-2005, 08:57 PM I don't know what the gains are on GREDDY but ScionSpeed's stage2 will get you up to about 312hp for $4217.43 ($3795.95 w/ preorder). And with a little work afterwards it'll get you to around 480hp.
BlkSandPrlTurbotC 02-18-2005, 09:26 PM I trust GReddy and I also trust Turbonetics
If I were to pick right now tho however
I would pick Turbonetics over GReddy
I've had experiences w/ Turbonetics, and I like their
"goodies"
TheKnown 02-18-2005, 09:45 PM i wish turbos were free :(
bambams247 02-18-2005, 10:31 PM Definetly some nice setups. Where can If idn more pictures/info onth e greddy kit and does it come with an intercooler? I want complete bolt on hopefully, so I wont have to custom build anything on the car. Just throw that bad boy on. And how engine safe are both kits? And high milage safe?

Well this wont be no sissy turbo
i would highly reccomend doing some engine modifications to your engine
before you get the GReddy Turbo
bambams247 02-19-2005, 12:19 AM so which kit is just a bolt on? Doesn't anyone make one or have one in production. I'm looking for a bolt on preferably with a small intercooler as well.
lootyman 02-19-2005, 01:09 AM with 7G to spend on a turbo...why are you in a tC?!?
plz dont get me wrong,i love my ride...but with an extra 7G i'd b in something else for sure.
i can'wait to sup up my tC. i've been riding around in vettes and magnums for a few days now and i feel the need...!

I dont have 7gs to spend ona turbo. I'm looking for an economical car, taht one day i can slap a turbo onto. i'm starting with some basics right now.
TurboMe 02-19-2005, 02:27 AM im guessing that it will only work on 5 speeds?
lootyman 02-19-2005, 12:44 PM bambam, some dude posted earlier he had 6G to spend on a turbo.
i really like the looks of that GReddy kit. but like the benjamins are to puffy, it's all about the numbers...baby.

It sure is. But if a company puts together a kit with a intercooler and a small turbo, they can easily sell it for like $2,000-$2,500 and it would boost really quickly and proved enough power for the Scion. Its money waiting to be made!
spwolf 02-20-2005, 12:26 AM except that you cant really build an quality turbo with IC for $2,000. I think great price should be around 4k-4.5k for good setup with IC, new clutch and installation :-).
I really "extremly" dislike how scionspeed quotes some "%" gains instead of properly showing off dyno sheets for different setups. I would go with someone else before they correct their policies. Some 200-250whp should be plenty of crazy power for tC, most people get way too worked up about some great whp numbers that are really too much.
Invest few k in suspension, wheels and tires, and there goes that 6k. It is easy to spend money on your car...

exactly. imho, one should already have the springs and sway bar for the tC. after that, before any power increases, one should get some better tires and brakes. then go for the power. you gotta be able to stop what you start, and stopping/cornering my tC with another 100 hp would just be scary.
chris
chris0 02-20-2005, 01:50 AM having said what I said...I plan on getting turboized once I put on some better tires and brake pads.
chris
shuttlegoosecock 02-20-2005, 03:00 AM in that case we better start emailing brembro and rotora for some big brake kits then
tCtunerZ 02-20-2005, 03:36 PM Don't by any means under estimate the power in the tC...
Give it some time to mature, close to a year and daily driver standard hasnt even been set.

xyouthx 02-20-2005, 08:16 PM Personally, I plan on goin with whatever kit that is a bolt on with minimal tuning required, because I am a college student and I dream of having my baby turbo'd. But i dont have the time/money to spend all that on a kit, and then have a shop try to tune it that probably has no expereince on the 2.4L motor. So which kit would best fill this description? also around 250 whp would be sufficient.

Any turbo kit you get will take a lot of time to do.
I understand you are a college student and you dont have the time/money
but not to be rude, I wouldn't turbo your car.
GReddy and Turbonetics Turbo Kits will need a lot of TIME, Patience, and money
for their kits to work properly, fully tuned to their best, and also your engine
will need a lot of work done as well. I know there are shops out there who
are good tuning 2.4L engines. Thank god XMZ(my work) we know 2.4L engines
So if you want to turbo, I would stay away from the "big name" turbos
being you say you dont have time or money
because GReddy and Turbonetics will require both.
So good luck on your quest.
bambams247 02-20-2005, 09:39 PM We need some company to make a small turbo kit for the Scion. Not a huge turbo and buncha other crazy stuff. Small kit with a small turbo that has about 250whp once installed.
Diluvium 02-27-2005, 10:27 PM im really looking forward to a stage 1 turbo..... which should perform the same as the TRD SC but at a cheaper price
oldman 02-28-2005, 12:02 AM I'm on the fence, I want the supercharger cause of warranty, then I want the turbo, cause I like to do my own thing and in a year or two 20% of more of the tC will have a supercharger, but a turbo tC, that shows the guy knows how to spin a wrench, it is cheaper, and there are know upgrades.
One thing I can't find on any turbo kit is: water cooled or NOT?
bambams247 02-28-2005, 01:03 AM Diluvium - ur avatar gives ceisures
oldman - i agree with u about the originality, plus turbo is so much better IMO
Azure_Pearl_tc 03-11-2005, 10:15 AM I just bought a scionspeed stage 2 turbo kit. seems like a great deal for the power increase. custom turbos with only 7-8 pound boost at my local turbo shops charge at least 1-2 grand more for only 100hp gain....in the DFW area. I'll see how much hp gains it'll give before changing the stock muffler and after...perhaps quarter mile times soon after.

Sorry to dissapoint you, but in real world 110whp on top of factory 140whp is considered an big turbo kit and "buncha other crazy stuff".
Small turbo would be 180whp, small turbo with upgrades 200-220 whp, everything over that is big... And you need serious upgrades to go with it as well.
7k is nothing to spend on turbo setup (when it is all over and done), since you will also need to change some other, rather important and expensive parts in order to get to 250whp properly.
Why not buy 24k car if you are going to spend extra 7k? Because there are no 24k cars with 250whp? :-)... you will then need another 7k and story just goes on.
Building up your car is not cheap. Wise man once said, you want fast car? pick two out of three: cheap, reliability, speed.

Subaru WRX - $23k
Specific Mods - $1k

retrodrive 03-13-2005, 07:16 PM There are turbo kits out already for as low price as humanely possible and some people still say that we need this and we need that. If you are serious...e-mail ScionSpeed with questions and buy the damn thing. They are real cool people to deal with.
