I have read all of the threads in the archives, so please don''t tell me to look there.
I had one of the first sets of these lights, and after 13 months, my passenger side one died. Scion Corporate comped me a new set 14 months ago. Now, the driver's side of my new set died. I kept my old pair, so I still have a working pair, but since they both have over a year on them, it probably won't be long until one/both fail.
In reading the archives, some people suggest taking apart the housing and attempting to find/fix the problem with the brake lights. Others comment that the housing is plastic welded/otherwise sealed, and that you can't get in without ruining the lamp.
Was there ever any final result? Has anyone ever successfully fixed one of these taillights? Or should I just trash my pair of dead lights? I doubt Scion would comp me again, considering they shelled out over $300 for me a little more than a year ago.

My car is 19 months old and one led on the passenger side tail goes out and then comes back on after giving the light a good whack. Anyhow, I am planning on taking the light apart my self to see if something is loose on the circuit board, however I am going to do this around May so hopefully, assuming things go well, I can put something together on how to do it. other than that, I am sorry to hear your having the same problem I am. Really sucks that these cool tails have so many problems!!! Scion contracting out to the cheapest bidder? When are they going to learn and start making quality assurance a priority.

My second set sh*t the bed on me a few weeks ago. I'm pretty angry about it, but I don't want a new set. At all. I'd prefer my hard earned cash back, even if it's half.
I think it's absolutely ridiculous.
I may call Scion corporate or whatever. See what can be done. I don't have my invoice, so I'm out of luck.

When I had the problem, I was going to take them apart...they are held together with a different/harder compound than what holds the headlights together...I just took the loss and gave them to somebody that wanted to try and fix them.

Are your TYCs still working 100%? I want a pair but only if the past problems have been fixed.

Mine are 9 months old and LEDS are starting to go out in both, but mainly the Drivers side. Went to the dealership today, they said that they are on a "stop" and could not order anymore. Talked to TRDSparks, and they said they have 22 in the warehouse available to order.
Found a pair at another local dealership and they are having them transferred this week for me.
I really love these tail lights and think they are one of the best looking ones out there, I just hope that this new set lasts and I don't have anymore problems, but based on what I am reading I am not going to hold my breath...

Weird that the TYC lights are failing so much. Used to have a set of Altezza TYC taillights on my 01 Civic back in my Fast/Furious ricer days, but I had no problems with them.
Are the TYC lights the same as the Anzo lights sold by fastscions.com? Thinking about picking up a set of the all red LED lights, but I don't need them failing on me in less than a year?

Hi Guys, have been away for a while until my TYC gone out on the left... reading this post felt like meeting long lost brothers....
I was one of the "explorers" who ordered the TYC when I first got my XB2 back in 2007. Both sides deterioated little by little over the period of time and now my left side is completely gone while 40% of the right side dimmed out. The twin circle parking lights still work like a champ and that's the main reason I love these light. Technically, LEDs don't burnt out and I suspect it should be one of the IC or something goes back. I am watching a pair on EBay that has the right brake light out. I might get that and open it up to see what's wrong.
I am particular angry with anyone who approves this piece of junk as Scion official accessories especially I work for Toyota Headquarter as well. I am ashamed that Scion put out a product that wouldn't even last for a year!? (Have we mentioned that this is also safety related????!!!!) I bet you they have never tested it and just threw it onto the market and that's why they stopped selling it shortly after because it wouldn't last.
Shame on you TMS!!!! And shame on you CAD (the accessories department)!!! They should recall all the TYC brake light assemblies! I want to see if there is any way to open a file to complain or something. Anyone want to petition with me? Let me know!

Toyota does not make the TYC Taillights. They are contracted out and unfortunately, a bad company produces them. This is why Toyota has pulled them from the market. They do not want to be associated with these lights as an offering for the xB. But since they didn't make them, they aren't responsible for them. TYC is, specifically because the limited manufacturer warranty is through TYC (or whatever the name of the company is that makes these lights).
It sucks, and believe me, I hate that everyone has a problem with them. Since your warranty is expired, I'd recommend trying to fix them yourself.
However if you are considering getting new tails, I'd recommend the ones that Longo Toyota sells. I've had them for over a year and a half now with absolutely no problems.

On my third set in 15 months, knock on wood. Just left the dealership Tuesday with a new set installed. Went up last week because several LED's in each brake light started to fade and or go out. At first they didn't know what to do because the TYC Tail Lights had been put on a hold status and there were none to be ordered. Supposedly on the east coast there are still tail lights available, but here in Texas / Southwest Region they are gone and not able to be ordered. Then the Parts Manager got involved he found a replacement part number, my ticket lists the lights individually as 00012-X0806-37 & 00012-0806-38. I was told these were the new replacement tail lights or second generation. I hope these last, as I like them and think they look good on my 09 RS 6.0.
I have read several posts on here about these tail lights and see that some people have great luck/no problems with them and then some people have issues like mine. I hope my 3rd set are really the good ones and last.

And don't forget that people only talk when they have something negative to say. You'll hear more about the problems and complaints that people have rather than the praise that they should be proclaiming more.

So after 4 years my driver side TYC tail decided to finally bite the dust. Looking to sell the passenger tail to anyone that needs one to complete the set. PM me for pics and offers.

Really? You're kidding right? There's this new invention called the internet, and it has multiple search engines...
http://www.toyota.com/help/contactus.html
If you're too lazy to search, then good luck amassing a class action claim, but at least I've answered your question.
And yes, I'm sorry to say, but you've just been flamed. :flame:

I wasn't talking about the taillights, I was talking about the fact that you couldn't come up with a contact phone # for Toyota customer service on your own.

NOT for your idea as to why you want that number.

Oh yeah, sorry if I came off a little hard, and didn't mean to have an attitude. I was just tired last night and didn't read it that clearly. What I meant to say was that with all their 800 numbers, which one can you recommend for complaints?
Thx.

That would be the Customer Experience Center in the link that I provided above.
