hey! this is mostly going out to the Chicagoland Scion owners / buyers / test drivers. Has anyone delt with Arlington Toyota / Scion on Dundee Road (i think they are in Buffulo Grove) ? How are they? Cool? Or should i not even waste my time going there to check out the box?

Took a test drive there, good group that does a high volume.
Since Scion is one price, I opted to buy at Libertyville Toyota as the sales tax is lower there. LT was great, ordered car on phone, got call its ready, bought it in one hour, and they apologized for taking too long.

also, be sure to check out the IL dealer reviews section HERE (http://www.scionlife.com/dealers/?state=IL) to see how other scion customers have rated area dealerships
yes it is true you will pay a lower sales tax (initially) if you buy from DuPage county -- but note that you will shortly after purchase, receive a letter from the County of Cook stating you pay the additional 3/4 of a percent.

would you still pay the extra 3/4 if you lived in dupage county?

no. i dont think you would
i live on the borderline of Lake and Cook counties (2 minute walk from my house to lake-cook road). so i am stranded with the higher tax...oh well, not too bad.

I just bought my xB at Bredemann Toyota on Dempster Ave. in Park Ridge. They are awesome to deal with and YES I had to pay the Cook County sales tax since I live in the city.

You think Bredemann Toyota is great to deal with? Well, I went back to get a refund on my extended warranty (refinanced at a credit union) and the guy couldn't help me with the paperwork cause he had to eat dinner. When he got back he said that the computers were down and he could help me tomorrow. I called him the next day and he took the day off. Bredemann Toyota is absolutely horrid when it comes to customer service...

I thought you pay tax on a car based on where you live no matter where you buy the car.

I thought you pay tax on a car based on where you live no matter where you buy the car.Jim, you are correct! I bought my xB in Park Ridge(Bredemann Scion) but since I lived on the northside of Chicago at the time I bought my Box, I had to pay the Cook County tax, NO WAY AROUND IT... :tap:

When you buy a car you pay the tax that is for that county. So if you bought a car in lake conty you would pay the 6 1/2 percent tax. If buy a car in cook county you will pay 7 percent tax. If you live in cook the county has something called a user tax that is 3/4 of a percent. So doing the math your finnal tax in lake county would be 7 1/4 and if you bought in cook it would be 7 3/4. so you do save 1/2 percent on taxes buying in lake county on a 17,000 car that is a savings to you of $85.00. I hope that answer your questions.
If you do not belive what I said call the county and they will tell you same thing. I did and that was the answer.

TheGuru is right. You get taxed based on where you live, not from where you buy your car from. I bought my first tC from arlington toyota/scion and the service was great. Before i went to arlington i went to libertivill toyota and service was totaly bad. I got my second tc from northbrook toyota due to arlington couldn't get me a scion fast enough. In case you go to libertyvill make sure you get young sales rep, if you get an older gentelment, just leave. Trust me i'm no bs. My bro had bought corolla in 2003 and the service was bad, then now in 2005 my mom went there and same thing so i took her to arlington.
