View Full Version : XD License Lights Replacement
bwhite 03-28-2010, 12:14 AM Has anyone replaced those dim yellowish lights with really BRIGHT LEDs?
What is the easiest way to replace them, and is there any DIY availabl to do it ? I looked ad mine (one is out) and did a quick assesment on what is needed, and I didn't want to start without first finding out if anyone has already done this, and what/how it was accomplished. The removal does not look that simple without removing the panel on the hatch with the emblem on it... :<(
Thanks !!

Scion_42 03-28-2010, 12:17 AM not too sure about the xD but on the tC on the back of the hatch there are 2 little panels that you pry off to get to the light. i could change mine in 30 seconds or less

Julian_xD 03-28-2010, 04:23 AM The xD is about the same thing. There are two small panels that yiou have to pry off with a screwdriver, but make sure that you do not scratch the surface. Then just find the light and twist it to replace the bulb. Installation is the opposite of removal. BTW, make sure that the bulbs are tight enough and try to find someone with small hands to do it for you.

i can't emphasize that last point more than he has.
i got ym left one changed to LED, but my right one, no one can get loose. i'm just ready to take it to the dealer, and ask them to change it.

I third? the small hands. I had the same problem almost as JJ, got one changed out no problem but the other just seemed stuck. I scraped up my hands but good trying to get that bugger out. Also, while you have the wires loose, plug in the replacements and switch the lights on to make sure they work and are making good contact. THEN put it all back together. :x
The lights from Garage1217 are what I have in my car and are awesome!

tried that, and tore up the socket a bit. so i quit before i damage it too much.
cobaltbravo 03-29-2010, 01:59 PM just remove the hatch panel to access the sockets with ease. its not that hard, just pop the handle out and grab the edge of the panel and tug hard.

why do these not work as 'parking lights'? the fitment seems to be exact
Garage1217 04-12-2010, 05:40 PM If you are talking about the units in the headlight, I do not recommend any led's be used in the headlight housings. They will overheat & possibly fail prematurely

only the high quality ones from china last!!! LOL two vehicles, two sets of LED's. one in each. not one problem. and the one was for a year and a half.
by the way, an old friend who builds cars helped me change the license plate lights. i thanked him by taking him and his wife out to ice cream! LOL
Garage1217 04-12-2010, 11:04 PM Bets of luck in the long run if you use your headlights a lot. Does not matter if they are china, us or whatever made, drastic heat will reduce the life of ANY led product by a marginal amount. Some people have used mine for years in the headlights without an issue, but I do not offer them for that purpose and will not warranty them if used in the headlights.
furiousPunch 04-13-2010, 01:03 AM yea i put my regular ones back in the parking lights, and took the white LED's and put them in the license plate & it looks siick! and the white LEDs with that aluminum ring are in my dome lights on the interior and its amazingly white
JJGeneral1 04-13-2010, 01:45 AM garage, i only paid $0.81 for the pair, so if they die i might have to break the bank LOL
i know you got good lights, yours is lighting my hatch since sept 09. and it's super bright.
jrgillespie630 04-13-2010, 11:39 PM I've had my LED city lights in for over 6 months, and with the HID kit, I haven't had any issues with heat.
