Default why does first gear seem to have 2 speeds?

anyone ever notice this in a stick shift? first gear has 2 speeds to it, i let the clutch out till the second speed of first gear bumps a little, then i let it out all the way. i know it doesn't have 2 speeds, but why does it feel like it? sometimes i'll hear something shift when i ride first gear slowly, like in a parking lot. i've noticed this on all stick shift cars

i think i know wat your talking bout.

when ur drivin say at 18 mphs in 1st, thats about 5.5 rpm. and when u let go, you feel a jerk and it winds right? or something like that?

thats because the gear is short... thats all its normal.

if thats not wat your talkin bout... then i dunno wat ur talkin about

Why in HELL would you ride first gear to 5500 RPMS???

I can't stand riding it to 3k, let alone even trying let it go to 5k.

First gear is WAY too short.

auctally if you hit it at the right time

you get a nice 5 pounds of boost, and a nice BOV sound!

Oh wait, that's going from 2nd to 3rd, and 3rd to 4th

I lose torque around the 2000 rpm range, then it picks right back up. Is that what youre talking about? Thats just the power curve in this car... Aside from that, vtec isnt comparable to vvt-i, its comparable to vvtL-i GODLESS

I will take a stab at what he is talking about......

Sometimes when I decelerate using the engine and not the brakes.....

ok If you start at like 4 grand in 2nd gear leave the clutch in and let the car slow down as it approaches 2000 rpm....it will feel like it hits another gear to slow the car down even further.....

Now I have really no idea how VVTI works but I do know it changes the valve timing which might cause the feeling as you declerate.

Well add another 5lbs for an intake

if you REALLY want an upgrade...

a nascar sticker gets you 50hp, and 100 lbs of boost!

Evry time I come to this message board looking for... I don't know what... I run into some noob post liek this that just makes me wish I never waisted my time. I guess this time I'll say something cause you can't complain without doing something about it.

Hey smart-guy. Your car dosn't have 2 speeds in 1st gear, whe you let the clutch out a little bit you start moving slow since the clutch is slipping. when you let it out all the way you move faster cause all the power is going to the wheels. It'll happen in any gear. I am frikin tired of posts like this from people that drive stick but have NO CLUE how it works. Pleeeeeeeeeease return your car and buy an automatic.

oh so you just be one of those stuck up 22 year olds with their parents money posting in here like they own the place. congrats. he asked a question to get an answer not be made fun of by some pompous _______. the entire point of this board is to help fellow scion members with their questions and share the excitement of our cars... clearly you are missing the intended value of this forum.

i have to agree with SirWompus on this one. it seems like there are alot of very stupid questions on this board. but i think it has something to do with alot of new drivers buy a manual trans and not knowing how to drive it right before they buy it.
