My Scion xD is up for 30K service. I checked the owners manual and it said that oil change and some other stuff needs to be done. But today when I took it to a my Toyota dealer, they said that they have to perform maintenance service on the vehicle and gave me a list of things needs to be done. And the price for the service was $450. I was shocked!!!
Has anyone here in this forum paid such an amount for a 30K service? Any recommendations? I have read about the same on some other thread on this forum. Any ideas?

change the oil, check all the fluids and check the pads.
there's your 30k service.
save yourself 400 bucks.

According to the "Scheduled Maintenance Guide" that came with your car, the 30,000 mile service would be:
- Replace engine air filter
- Replace engine oil and oil filter
- Rotate tires
- Inspect the following:
(then there's a list of stuff to inspect)
That's it. Don't go to the dealership and waste $400 on an oil change, air filter, and tire rotation.

There's really nothing new until 100,000 miles when you replace the engine coolant. Then at 120,000 miles you replace the spark plugs. Other than that, I would recommend flushing and replacing your brake fluid every two years, regardless of mileage.

When is the transmission filter suppose to be changed in these cars?

That isn't mentioned in the manual... but a lot of automatic trannies should have it replaced every 60-80,000 miles. It wouldn't be a bad idea to upgrade to a better trans fluid, too. I use RedLine in mine... it's a 5-speed, but they make great ATF, too.
