The knob should twist off. If you want a shorter shifter that's another issue. You'll have to remove the shifter and cut some of it off.

Your hands, preferably with fingers attached.

You don't install shift knob. Shift knob installs you.

one thing i was thinking about..

his shift knob could be aftermarket, and not the screw on type

it could be one with the plastic or rubber inserts for different diameter shifters, and he could need the insert, the hex screws, and the allen wrench to put it on.. but it looks like he got it.. just throwing that out there for additional info

I was thinking the shifter was too long for the aftermarket shift knob.
