i have a REALLY crappy digital camera but i hope you can tell what i did. i basically added a side marker light under the side mirror. why? so everytime you unlock the door and the dome light comes on, so do the lights on the side mirror. they point down like a spotlight on the door. they also fade out when the domelight fades out. though my crappy camera doesnt show it, they are fairly bright.

a lot of thanks to windowtint and my bro-in-law for helpin me on this project.

sorry again for the crappy photos.

I've done it. To get the mirror off, slowly pull up from the bottom edge. There's a couple of clips at the bottom that snap in/out and a nub at the top that it hooks over there. thereis also some sticky/gummy stuff helping to hold it on. To get the whole assembly off, you need to pull the plastic triangle off the inside and remove nuts, disconnect wiring. To remove the mirror housing from the mounting base, there are 3 screws going up from the bottom on the outside.

Is that what you're looking for?

It is not hard at all. The only thing that is a little tricky is getting the mirror itself to snap out of the shell. I could not figure out how to pull the mirror motors out. But is very straight forward.

Pull off your door panel. There should be 3 screws, 1 for the dor handle, 1 for the cup thing that you use to pull the door closed and 1 plastic one on the door panel by the hinges. Then it just pops off. Make sure to disconnect your door lock wiring and power window wiring. You should have enough slack to do so without any trouble. Then unplug the power mirror wire.

Pull of the little triangel trim piece by the mirror. You should see 3 nuts 10mm if I remember right. The mirror should slide right out.

Let me know if you need any more help.

(I HATE POSTING AT WORK! They beat me to the punch) :tap: :lalala:

I know what he's doing! :lalala: I'll shut up though :)

On the mirror removal, it's not that hard, you're just a little concerned. push in the top of the mirror as far as you can and get a look up under there - you'll see the sppots where you can pry against with a flat blade screwdriver and pop the mirror glass off - once you get the first one off, the second will be a peice of cake - LEARNING CURVE!

Are you trying to put in led's for turn signals in the mirrors? I was pondering this but I am too scared to try it out.

well its easy to figure out, hes going to colormatch the paint on the base of the mirror to the color of his ride. correct? I was thinking of doing that myself. since my xB is white that black plastic looks like crap.

I did the LED's for turn signals. They are not behind the mirror because I did not want to buy a plexy glass mirror and cut it to do it. They are on the black thing right next to the window.

I know what he is doing....going to be well worth it if he can figure out how.

Definetly keep us posted especially the wiring.

UBYTRON - if you were looking to put leds behind the glass and only be visible when on, an easier way to do it is use standard glass - have a shop cut some LAMINATED (not plate) to shape (take them a template) and then have a tint shop just stick on a peice of "R20" window film real quick. - It'll look like the original glass and the leds will shine through the tint when on.

Plexi has a really odd distorted look to when used as a mirror and scratches show up real bad real quick against a mirrored background.

Great idea "WINDOWTINT". I will have to check into that. Will definetly cost a little more though. I might be able to have my dad cut it at work with the water jet. That thing will cut anything including steel 12 inches thick. Glass should be no problem. I know hes cut some stuff out of glass aready for his truck.

while people were guessing at what you were doing, i had a few of my own ideas, and almost willing to try this myself....

Put some LEDs inside the mirror housing...light will bleed out of the crack between housing and mirror, so when lit, ads a Halo effect to the mirror.. what you do think? should i try when my M3 style CF mirrors come in?

sounds like it might be cool. are you gonna try it on the stock mirrors?
