Hey everyone,

I recently purchased a Scion TC and got the option for the TRD Exhaust for the car when I purchased it. They just installed it this past Saturday, at my local dealership, and it sounded pretty good. I was impressed with it at first but then about three or four days after that it seems like the car got quieter. Some thing I have noticed is a loss of the low bass sound the muffler gives off as well as less vibrato. I have been told that mufflers tend to quiet after getting broken in but this seems a lot sooner than I was expect, and much quieter. It just doesn't sound near as loud as it did the first few days of driving it. Well I kind of want to take it back and have them look at it, but I figured i would look into it more. What are some things that could cause an aftermarket exhaust to get quieter? Are there any things I should look for? (visible signs that something might not be right) Lastly is this all just in my head. I am by far no expert on any of these things. So I figured I would try this site out first.

Thanks

Nah you're just getting used to the sound. At first with my TRD sounded too loud to me then I just got used to it. I got mine used.

Agreed. My girl had her TRD exhaust for an entire year. It still sounds the same. If your looking for a deeper grunt, get an injen SRI. It makes a world of difference in the sound aspect. I know this from first hand knowledge.

Go back to stock for a day. You'll notice ;)

that means he has to pay from a uninstall and then a reinstall since he doesnt know how to install the exhaust himself.

about three or four days after that it seems like the car got quieter.

That sounds about right, at least that was the same experience for me. On day 1 the highway drone @ ~4000 RPM was loud but by day 4 it had come close to negligible.

Thanks for the feedback. I was wondering if this was typical or if there was another reason for it getting quieter. I really liked the louder sound it once had more, but if this is how it sounds after its broken in than I will live. It still sounds good but its really quite unless you step on it. I don't notice it near as much starting the car up either.

Thats because your car has to warm up but trust me, your exhaust is fine. TRD has a unique and decent sound. Not to loud, not to quiet.

This is what my friend also said to me. I am starting to think this might be part of it too.

Thanks for the advice. This is a good sign that these boards are going to be legit. I think I will stick around. :P

most exhaust system's are loud at first cause your not use to it,has you drive more with it and as days pass on carbon will build up in the muffler and quiet it down a tiny bit and youll get use to the sound,i have the megan drift spec at first it was very loud for me but then after awhile i just got use to it,they call it a break in period about 100 miles or so

x3 - if you have a pair of ramps or jackstands you can wiggle under there and have it off in no time. It's a pair of 14mm's.

Get an intake if you want your exhaust louder. First I got the TRD with stock everything, then I added an Injen CAI. That made the TRD sound a bit louder and a much deeper sound

If you want some more sound out of it, look into a megan racing midpipe, it will make the trd a lil bit louder sounding. I would just say though that you are just getting used to the sound.
