Went for hubcentric rings at Discount Tire ($15 - best price I have found), and they listed the stock "bore" at 56.10mm. I was positive that I read on this site that the ID is 54.1mm. The guy was really nice and gave me both sets for the price of one. I just need to return the set I don't use. Well, sure enough, it is 54.1mm. Thanks web folks!

No they are not like washers, most aftermarket rims cone with a center bore that is bigger than the center hubs on most cars.

if you don't use hubcentric rings, you run the risk of having your wheels slightly off-center, causing vibration, uneven tire wear, and possible breakage.

with the hubcentric rims pressed in the center of your wheels center bore, you guarentee that the wheel sits perfectly centered on the center hub :)
