Default Pretty Cool Stuff You Scion Guys Do!

I'm a VW guy and I've haven't really seen many Scions but the ones I have seen seem to have a bunch of stuff done to them that the VW community just really doesn't do much. Granted the scenes have totally different view points but you guys seem to do "graffiti" like things a lot more. I'm not exactly sure if that's the proper term but I'm sure you get the drift of what I'm saying. I came across this xB...

http://www.automo.to/2010/04/simply-sweet-scion/

which had neat idea for the wheels to have them splashed with paint on the rims which made the steelies look pretty darn good. Also the ceiling was covered with stickers it looks like to me which I thought was pretty cool too. I'm kind of thinking about doing it to my Jetta.

One main question that I'm wondering on top of the whole styling thing that you guys do is what are some popular rims you guys use. Like the Mk3 Jettas you'll see a lot of Type A's, BBS rims, Kishkin KT1's, etc.

there are a lot of wheels out there, but i personally got the cheapest black wheels available at my local Discount Tire. Worked out great and they look great.

Check out the picture threads located here in the forums, those threads really open up your perspective to customization possibilities of the xB. I also think that the xB has an extremely strong community because we are all "united by individuality": as quoted in Scion's marketing campaigns. The general public usually dislikes this car (especially the 1st gen) because of its odd look. Because of this, people invest a lot of time, money, and energy in their car, and love showing it off to the community and public.

Those steelies are custom widened steelies (15x8s with custom offset). That's the reason for the dope lippage.

As for the standard wheels you see, it's everything from the overdone honda crowd, old style/new style, limited (aka ledsleds), JDM only release, 5bolt only reworked to a 4bolt pattern... you name it. I've even seen color matched forgiato wheels on an xb (not my style, but it worked). There are some who have used miata and even BMW wheels (recapped without the BMW logo of course).

Greets out to the dub crew.

That xB is Nikoli's. He's on here as punkhop and BYAAAAH elsewhere.

The lips on the wide steelies are dope as hell.

A lot of the mk2/mk3 vw guys run widened steelies except the spattered paint was cool.

In my experience, the xB community is a lot more open to wacky customization than other scenes, which is great. We don't all worry about being JDM TITE YO.

as said above, we're an out there crowd. Scions have been modded from convertibles to JDM monstrosities (sorry if you like those). I got a pair of giovanna ararat black chrome rims that i'll be slapping on in the summer. i feel as though eknie and bbs are the bigs rims though. surf the sight and see what people are rocking!

The xB community is like no other we are generally very accepting of people and their tuning style and you don't see many xB's that look alike. It's a whole other world when you're in a box.

Yeah. There's a lot of bashing that goes on. It's quite sad. I see it in a few other forums too. I've always been a VW fan and the Scion community seems to the be the most open. I'm thinking it's simply because of the xB and it's boxiness which attracts a more open crowd.

It's funny of all the xB bashing from V-Dub'ers. I know alot of xb owners were once big in the VW scene, including me. And I still love them (mostly air cooled, but MK II's have a big place in my heart). I honestly feel the xB is the closest thing to the bug that's been introduced since. it was an instant classic and has a pretty large cult following already, only a few years after they quit making them. I do feel the Scion community is more relaxed and accepting of other makes than most other car communities.

The xB community is great. It really adds value to the car.
I can look at threads for hours looking at completely different styles that all seem to work in their own ways.
