Engi - Possibly out of the led swap game
Well, looks like I am going to be accepting a new job (same company) managing large plant automation and construction projects. This job requires 40% - 70% travel, but gets me home every weekend no matter what. But, I dont plan on spending the rest of the time I have with my family working on other stuff
Not pulling my info off of doc iso's site quite yet, but just a heads up that I will most likely not be providing the led swap services any more. At least not formally.
I never did the work because I needed the money, which should have been evident in the low prices I offer. The extra pocket cash was nice for paying off autox fee's and the tires/suspension mods that went along with it, but not a source of income we needed to have in any way. I enjoyed doing the work and enjoyed giving the customers good service (Even though scheduling the swaps was sometimes a challenge up front due to my schedule!).
For the few that are thinking about sending theirs in in the next few weeks, I will still make it work. There are a couple of friends on here that I will still help out for sure on the swaps. And of course I will still answer questions as I have for the past 5 years regarding this type of work.
My warranty (work covered for as long as you own the car) still stands. I have and always will cover my work. I will ensure that if anything does need fixing, I will get it scheduled as quickly as possible.
Thanks to all of the customers I have worked with. It was cool getting do set up various designs you each came up with!

lol ... I didnt advertise constantly on the forums, so that is probably why. I was the one that designed the circuit mod on the HVAC all the others use
https://www.scionlife.com/forums/tc-tech-diy-1818/led-swap-05-06-hvac-w-circuit-mod-32276/
Been doing them since 2005, first to successfully get the HVAC swap to look correct (Due to the mod I mentioned above). When it used to be more up front on the forums that I did them, I got so many requests I couldnt keep up, so I just switched to advertising on doctorisotopes site and word of mouth. All my info is still on there for now.. but not sure I will be able to take any work in the next 2 months other than what is already slated. AFter that, will probably take it off there completely.
I charged $95.00 plus shipping to do a standard hvac and gauge swap (more for color changing needles and more complex swaps), $40.00 for a head unit led swap, $10 for door controls and steering wheel buttons, etc. Lowest prices around that I knew of, especially from someone with degrees in the field. I just didnt spend hundreds per year to be a site sponsor (although the other forum I frequent let me pretty much mention my pricing for free since I was one of the first to do them on the tC correctly) and on a web site, so my overhead was lower. I also tried to charge a fair price for the work since I didnt depend on the income I got from it. So rather than spending money advertising that I had the lowest prices and the best quality parts.. I just spent my time actually providing the lowest prices and best quality parts
Those savings just went straight to the customer.
Nothing at all against LEDheadz and Garage, as I would recommend them any day, since they do good quality work and back their work like they should.

And yes, I will still be around the forums and driving the tC, just wont have time to be dealing with the led swap stuff. I havent done nearly as many in the past year just due to time restrictions, but with all of the travel coming up now, I just dont want to take out of the more limited time with the family. Autox does enough of that on its own
White with blue needles doesnt require anything special other than painting the needles blue and doing the white led swap, so that whole setup would cost you $105.00 including the HVAC if I were doing it.. but like I said, I wont be taking any new work, at least for now
looks like the new job transition will be occurring in less than 2 weeks!
so... more travel
Better pay
Better bonus
Managing the types of projects I like to manage best (plant automation)
:D Better deal all around really.
But, not any time to deal with the led biz any longer.
Still get my weekends for the most part, so I will most likely hit all the autox events.

glad to hear ur moving into bigger and better things!
aside from full service, engifineer also helped provide DIY parts for great prices! helped me on my swap and was there to answer my every question! even though i payed just for the parts!
real standup guy and a great part of this community!
will you still be providing DIY kits?

Thanks for the kind words!
May get back into providing the kits at some point, but not for now. If I can set it up fairly low maintenance on my end then it is possible down the road.
